A new segment on the channel. Getting back into the vintage Tamiya RC's from my childhood. In this first episode, I score a great body on ebay and we modify a TA02 Chassis to fit it!

I remember buying the tl01 with this body back in the early 2000’s, such a nice detailed body. So cool to run the r/c back in the day. Doesn’t compare to nowadays

I know it would be helpful to learn more about the Tamiya chassis. I used to work part time at Colpar Hobbies in Denver, at that time Tamiya Hornet and MO-1 chassis were still available first run, not as a nostalgia rere. Honestly I didn't think much of the various Tamiya chassis with exception of the "F" series Formula 1 cars. They were quick and could hold their own against the pan cars which were the go fast setups at that time. Just nicads and brushed motors. Had a trying situation with a supervisor at my full time airline job, this guy lived a few blocks from me and knew I worked at Colpar. His wife bought a Tamiya Bug with the MO-1 chassis for her nephew who was living with them. They were constantly at my front door for several months. I had warned this guy that buying the kit did not mean it had everything in the box to make that thing work. Long story short, aunt and uncle sent this kid to my house every time they saw my truck in the driveway. Apparently I didn't need sleep or time off and don't remember hanging a sign out front "R/C cars built here parts and labor free"... So I wasn't much of a fan of this line of cars but I do love the F1 chassis. I always want to help and inspire beginners to this hobby, BUT ya gotta be careful, oftentimes there is no interest making the investment in time to learn R/C or money to make it happen, they want you to do your hobby for them. I digress, I am interested in the aftermarket aluminum suspension parts and upgrades for these cars. Been watching R/C Kicks and I am about to take the plunge and buy one of these kits. So long winded yes, Tamiya Time here and there sounds great. Have you hugged your Rat Rod today?

Just needs an interior & some rims like white Tamiya 10 spokes maybe i think those could look pretty good. Closest too the touring car would be Tamiya grey 18 spokes or the 16 spokes if you can find them in stock anywhere.
@RCeveryday
@RCeveryday 2 года назад
I have found the correct wheels for it now but still can’t find the proper interior piece.
@Mini-z1994
@Mini-z1994 2 года назад
@@RCeveryday Ah don't think the kit came with an interior, just adding some additional detail too the body itself by using the rally interior or similar is what i had in mind here, kind of like the builds truck norris does on tamiyaclub, his stuff is insanely detailed.

@@RCeveryday way better than saying ta-MY-ah. That really irritates me 😀. I just ordered another TA02 after 30 years. I had the Castrol Celica rally on the TA02 with a Novak Rooster and I loved it.
@mikeupton5406
@mikeupton5406 2 года назад
@@RCeveryday LOL YUP Me too. Ta ME ya Novak Rooster! That was the hot thing. I also had a Novak T2 or T4 , little orange box. I used the "T" for paved and dirt oval racing. The Rooster at one point it was in a Mauri Big Bear that had the MIP gear case upgrade and diff. You had to cut the axles to make the diff fit. I remember using way too much molybdenum grease for Boeing 727s in the gear case and had that stuff EVERYWHERE LOL! Tortured that truck for years and it never broke and finally sold it on. But yeah later part of it's career it had a Rooster
@RCJesus420
@RCJesus420 2 года назад
One way diffs are great! They make such a big improvement to touring cars. What, you didn't want to spend $80 a pair for the plastic yellow "hop up" Tamiya shocks? 🤣 I'm a fan of a lot of Tamiya stuff, but their "hop up" parts are such an overpriced rip off generally. lol
@RCeveryday
@RCeveryday 2 года назад
I know what you mean🤣 I have a set of fluorescent yellow control arms in my eBay cart that are $80 from Japan😵 makes no sense at all but I want them. I’m just pissed I can’t find the aftermarket stuff I use to have made by Kose anymore. Every now and then a piece pops up in Singapore for a ridiculous amount but never the parts I need. I did pay $55 for a carbon fiber drive shaft 😂

I don’t believe they make this body any more but the chassis are still available at any online hobby shop like towerhobbies or even on Amazon. I think I have some in my store. There is a link in the video description.
