Tampa Police evict family squatting in abandoned home: WMNF News 7 September 2012 rnc.wmnf.org wmnf.org/news Here's the story of when the residents took the abandoned house: www.wmnf.org/news_stories/10900
Good question. In any other circumstances kicking in the front door and invading property you've no claim to counts as Breaking and entering. But apparently if you decide you want a nap on the sofa then you somehow have more rights than the person who actually OWNS the property.
Damn good question. Renters and home or property owners have rights but squatters should be removed on discovery, no exception! By any means necessary.
Is not a natural right to own a house, you have to work hard to get it, not just sneak into one that belongs to someone else!! I hate to hear that “everyone should have a house” NO, nothing falls from the sky, just work for it
Squatters across the street somehow hooked up electricity and water to the neighbors utilities and stole it that way. They didn't have trash pickup and we're burning trash in fire red zone. Even then the bank that owned the house had to pay them to leave. Unbelievable
"self-governing democracy" ??? You're in the wrong country if you are looking for a democracy. The U.S.A. always has been and always shall be a *Constitutional Republic!* If that is not to your liking you're free to go live in another country that is.
Patricia Francis lol when the CITY takes over HOMES why don’t THEY buy their own as well 🤣🤣🤣 so funny that these commenters aren’t AFFECTED by someone living in an abandoned home that doesn’t belong to them. Check in a city near YOU. Let us know how that bidding process works on how your state TOOK someone’s HOME and let it sit or have a bidding rally to make profit 😉👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 instead of BUYING 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thomas Johnson that’s the kinda people my roommates are. They take my food and then say they thought was someone else’s or they didn’t know. Then they tell me I’m tripping because for always asking about it because they’ll replace it. they replace it and then eat it again because they bought it. I could fucking strangle them but I’m hoping the land lord is successful with the eviction because surely enough the lowlives can’t pay rent.
@@Ladybugsbee the city only take homes if you do pay taxes, a crime is operating there , or they need build things it is the bank that takes the houses for not paying the loan then try and get someone remodel and resell the house but they cannot get builders in because squatter are moving and it take monrh to evict them
@@Ladybugsbee the reason we are complaining is if we let do this to the bank they will next move in our house if we go on a trip it has already happened it happen to veteran that had go out town to va for treatment lef in the morn when he got back home that afternoon a squatter was in his house had her son attack the veteran it took 2 month before the cop reove them and they wore not arrested
@@daveywaves5325 it take time to find people that remodel a home get plan approve why the builders get licenses the squatter break in and move in then it take months to get them out
If some of these squatters puts as much thought into their lives and careers as they do trying to skeme the system and live for free. They would have a place of their own and would understand that living in a home that's not yours that you refuse to pay for isn't right.
This makes no sense to me.The house maybe not be being lived in but abandoned is when taxes are not paid .An empty house in my neighborhood is someone has had an injury and is recuperating at a care facility till they can come home.We have a house that grown children own and use it for family reunions and on holidays when the family all comes together to visit with each other.Stop taking people's property as if they are entirled.
Learn the law before being recorded spouting your own ignorance. A little known Florida statute reads: "Police can remove squatters with a signed affidavit as long as the squatter is a transient trespasser and not a former renter." Sounds logical to me. Hope this spreads like wildfire to all property owners in FL.
Yep, unfortunately you DO live outside if you don't have money to live anywhere. There are plenty of places that assist you in finding a job and give you free food if you are homeless. It is an unfortunate situation to be in, but it doesn't give you the right to steal someone's property.
Break and entry or home invasion isn't civil matter. To acquire utility bill, you should represent a contract. However, Squatters never represent one. This is fraud.
I don’t see it that way neither I have a abandon home in fact 2 I’m just waiting to sell them you just don’t break into people shit and expect to stay there rent free
BUT WOULDN'T THE QUESTION BE WHY ARE THEY THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!?! They had to know when they broke in that it was not their property. Why should the legal owners have to spend money and hire lawyers and go to court to get somebody out of their own home!?! They should be hauled out in handcuffs and locked up in jail!!!
It's like if someone breaks into ur car & they had the keys changed & paid for insurance it's technically their car.. huh ? Same principle..That's somebody's property. Anyway u look at it. It's WRONG !!!
The police removed them because it was not their property. Petition your state legislature to draft a bill ending private ownership of property. Then the state can place people in homes as they see fit until the law is challenged in court.
On what planet is this guy living on. Must be called freebie land. Why would anyone pay a mortgage or rent if you can just break change the locks and have the utilities connected. Why would anyone buy or rent if this was legal?. What a bunch of b.s.What makes these people so special that they get free housing. Im a single mother I have to go to work and I have to pay for rent to put a roof over my childs head like any other citizen. Why should they get to live for free and the rest of us should have to work everyday and pay for a home. Nonsense this squatter b.s is.
Courts need to change the rules so squatters can be arrested and charged immediately. Squatters shouldn't have rights. Get a damn job and your own home
If I owned a house and squatters moved it- I would break every window......anything and everything I could do- I would!!!!!!! I'd remove the central air unit as it's outside.......
Matthew Pappas *Ignorance* You have it. You'd be surprised how hard working some of those people really are. It's like how if there isn't available approved overtime my better half can't do it or he'll lose his job--- there aren't enough jobs to go around. Please educate yourself and be thankful for what you have. I was one of those people at one point. Didn't squat. Found a field with high grass and slept in it. Cleaned peoples houses to sleep in there backyards. Trust me on this. Homeless people are often hardworking. Those same people are often invisible to you. Guess your head is stuck too far up your ass to see reality- which is quite a bit more cruel than "if you work hard you'll do well and if your not a hard worker you won't"- that view is incredibly naive at best.
Matthew Pappas To continue. Some of the things I did(homeless shelter had a waiting list and like many people I never got in btw) included cooking food for people while I was starving(and not aloud to eat even what they would just throw away). Doing housework for people. Doing gardening. All of this was just to be able to fall asleep somewhere I wouldn't be arrested for basically existing (everyone has to sleep)and being homeless(which means doing so is basically illegal out here or at least is treated that way most of the time, even when it isn't). I endured sexual assault among other things. One "family" took me hostage for months and basically made me into a slave they retrieved if I ran away. There I did and endured all those things while also being sexually assaulted. I learned years later they did this to another young woman whose tattoo they carved out of her skin. I remember being relieved I'd had no tattoos but found myself unsurprised I was, apparently, far from the first or only woman this had happened to. The fact police either wouldn't or couldn't or whatever do anything about them also didn't surprise me. If the victims are homeless the state gives no fucks. That's what being so taught me. So a kid fresh out of the system ends up in that? What do you think happens? Do you think it's sunshine and rainbows? That it's *easy* to claw your way from that? Do I have news for you. No matter how hard working you are its anything but easy. I was nineteen. I basically became homeless at 18. The world isn't a kind place to live in and even years later when your shit is together there are still people who will come after you using that rough start as an excuse to do more shit to you later on. Usually state funded. You truly have no clue about this issue or what it entails do you.
AuroraLalune I said I have no sympathy for the unmotivated or slackers, perhaps a reading comprehension class would do you some benefit because you misunderstood my comment and rambled on putting words in my mouth about "working hard and doing well". You clearly are the ignorant one here.
Matthew Pappas Clearly you need a lesson in manners. Do you talk to your mother like that? You were pretty clear and if you feel it was misconstrued then explain *how* by clarifying meaning. Not repeating yourself and accusing another person of lacking understanding. In context it's often used exactly the way I responded to it. In fact, I've never run into someone who said that when talking about "poor" or "homeless" people who didn't mean it *exactly* like that. Purhaps if you took a reading comp class yourself you'd know that is how one is supposed to take it even by reading comp standards. A middle school student and even some elementary students know that. So please. Continue to show how much you need to learn accountability and manners. Please. The gaslighting and backpedaling didn't make it clear enough exactly how much of an an intolerable a hole you measure into. Please. Show us all how much you desperately need to learn.
AuroraLalune I said get a job, save money, work hard, repeat. If you got offended by that then that's on you for being way too sensitive. So you can call me ignorant but I can't say the same to you? Wow, double standard much? Let me guess, you are one of those nazi feminist woman's rights nut jobs that thinks their opinion is superior to everyone else's. Feel sorry for your "better half" honestly.
This has become past the point of ignorance. If you don't own or have a lease to a home you should be able to be taken to jail instantly because you are trespassing if you are there. You should have zero legal rights to be there. The owner should not have to go thru an eviction process if they never told told you that you could live there to begin with. Just because a structure or house is empty does not give you the right to just move into it whether you are homeless or not. The guy said that they had the water and power on so if they can afford that go get a damned apartment the legal way. People have just become so entitled it's almost beyond belief. Hell we've even got illegal aliens protesting in cities now because they're not getting enough free benefits to satisfy them when all they should be getting is a damned bus ride back to the boarder after serving a few days in jail.
Well duh if you can pay for utilities why not pay rent? Why should squatters get free housing for committing a crime? Just because a house is vacant don’t make it yours. Why should the owner have to pay for court to get them out? Or repair replace the damage that they do? There should be not squatters rights that’s ridiculous. Just like letting people illegally come into the country breaking immigration laws then expecting to be citizens? You have to abide by our laws. And Florida law giving squatters rights is just ridiculous.
7/20/18......Is this guy kidding? "There are so many homeless people" + "there are so many empty houses".....SO WHY DON'T THE CITY/COUNTY OFFICIALS JUST PUT THE HOMELESS IN THESE EMPTY HOUSES???? Is he an idiot or just a liberal? SOMEBODY owns these empty houses so it is THEIR PROPERTY & THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO THEIR HOUSES! City & county have NO BUSINESS "putting the homeless into empty houses" esp when owned by somebody else! OWNERS will eventually rehab/sell these empty houses using legal methods to NEW HOMEOWNERS who will live there or rent these places out. That guy MUST be a liberal or a communist b/c he thinks city or county can make legal decisions about owners' empty properties!
They should take that into account BEFORE they appropriate what isn't theirs! Why is it different when you steal a house? Steal a car or stereo or computer they throw you in jail. Should be the same here. Should be just like - you break the law you have a police record for life.
More homes than homeless? Lots of people want, need money. Money is in banks so if you think about it that way; why not just start making illegals withdrawals from banks and stores with cash registers?
I understand his point there are a bunch of vacant homes when I put the people in those vacant home but, the problem is is that how are you going to put someone in a home when they don't have a job? That's one of the reasons why I hate living in Arizona because you have all these gigantic buildings that they build last year that and then right next to it there's an empty building. I think that if is vacant buildings those should be turned into shelters that can hold the capacity of the amount of homeless people.
Katrina McClain I'm not sure that would even hold all the homeless people out here. It's laughable how they think removing benches from bus stops and whatnot helps anything but the city of Phoenix is all about appearances, not about reality.
Sounds good on paper but most don't want to follow any rules or authority like being told time lights out is, no alcohol or drug use permitted, that you have to put a certain amount of time looking for a job, etc.
