Concrete TV mounting with concrete screws. Can small 1/4" by 1 1/2" Tapcon concrete screws hold up TV that weighs over a hundred pounds? I drill into concrete block and drive Tapcon screws into concrete to mount a single stud TV mount. I also mount 3/16" concrete screws into solid concrete and give other tips for drilling into masonry with a hammer drill. The Milwaukee rotary hammer kit: amzn.to/3qJpEiv, I may receive a commission if you click the link.

They worked well for my wall, but be sure to test the mount to make sure it doesn't budge because it will only be as strong as the wall

I need to mount a 2x4 to a cinder block wall in my basement. What size tapcon do you thing would be sufficient? It's going to frame in a crawl space door and that door will be hinged on the 2x4

Greetings! Does the guidance in this video apply when you're dealing with a poured concrete wall? We are thinking about mounting a TV on the foundation wall in our basement for treadmilling. Thanks!

As long the concrete is in good shape, the holes are drilled at the right size, the dust is blown out, and the screws are installed properly then you should be fine

Yep, I concur. I’d say don’t use the conical head Tapcons. Use the hex head ones with the flat washer bushing. Make sure that hole is really cleaned out.

Does the drillbit to make the whole gotta be smaller than the screw thickness or same size ?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs 3 месяца назад
The drill bit needs to be smaller than the screw threads. The package will tell you the size for the screw: 3/16" bit for the 1/4" screws for example.

From the inside I have lath plaster then an air gap then old brick. Cant find studs. What do you recommend for a 40 pound TV pull out swing stand? Thank you!

A ceiling mount with lag bolts into the ceiling joists would likely be the most secure there as well as easiest option. If you don't like the look of that and need it on the wall, consider a flat mount (more secure) and long Tapcons in the bricks after drilling deep enough, cleaning out the brick dust, and using spacers the size of the space between the bricks and the mount. The problem is the air gap, so you need either spacers or cut out a piece of plaster/lath to attach wood to the brick. Drill and mount onto old bricks at your own risk!

I have drywall installed over my cinder block with 1/3 wood studs. What size would I need to install a tv wall mount. Also what size washer if any do I need? Thanks

You have 1 1/4" inch between the mount and the concrete, so you need at least 2 1/4" long screws to have 1 inch embedded in concrete. You could use either 3/4" metal spacers to fill the gap between the drywall and concrete, but personally I would try a one-stud mount and drill through one of the 1x3's and drive screws into the concrete with at least 3 screws.,. But be sure to install the concrete screws properly.

Is it better to put concrete tapcon screws directly in brick or use plastic anchors?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs 2 месяца назад
I use the same Tapcon screws in brick for TV mounting or anything else like I do in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rRpi1usP7_c.html, (edit: the same 1/4" screws). You can also use the plastic anchors but for the lag bolt sleeves that's a lot of drilling

I used 2 1/4 in by 5 / 16 tapcon used masonry bit to drill started with impact wrench finished with 3/8 socket and the head popped off. I was going into old brick from chimney. What did I do wrong? To long of screws? didn't drill deep enough?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs 9 месяцев назад
If it wasn't deep enough, it would probably just spin and strip the hole. I've had the small Tapcons heads pop off but never a larger one. It just must have been really dense material or maybe you weren't holding the drill perfectly straight (when you drilled the hole). If you still have that hole, I'd use a plastic expansion anchor and maybe even drill a larger hole for a larger anchor.

I’m trying to using these tapcons on brick, and the tapcon stripped out. Any recommendations?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs Год назад
I'm putting up a video of just that today; I used 1/4" Tapcons to attach wood to brick. It's very important to 1) drill deeper than the screw length, 2) clean the hole of debris and dust, and 3) do NOT over-tighten. If you're not used to driving TapCons, it may be wise to use a socket wrench, especially at the end, otherwise you may over-tighten and strip the hole. If the hole is stripped, you can use a plastic anchor and screw because the hole will probably not work with the Tapcon any more.

What size Tapcon concrete screw would you recommend to use on a basement handrail?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs Год назад
Handrail malfunctions can cause major injuries so I would recommend getting an insured contractor to install it. If installed properly, the Tapcon screws used in this video should hold hundreds of pounds of weight.

So tap on will hold my 55 inch tv no problem ?
@toolsandrepairs
@toolsandrepairs 6 месяцев назад
If installed properly, at least 4 concrete screws into at least 1 inch of concrete should hold up most TV mounts. But as always the mount is only as strong as the wall so if the wall is crumbling, cracked, damaged, or if the holes are drilled wrong and the dust not blown out, etc, you will have problems.
