Tara Brach on Embodied Presence [Part 1] - Planting our Roots in the Universe [2020-01-22]
In describing our human predicament and dis-ease, DH Lawrence says we are like a great tree with our roots in the air. We need to replant ourselves-in our bodies, hearts and spirit. These two talks are guides to replanting ourselves. In Part 1, we explore how we are so often dissociated from the life of our body, and the pathways home.

The moment my life changed was when I began to meditate daily. I completely changed my outlook on life and where my life was heading. It has ultimately led to me starting my own RU-vid channel, which is already beginning to reach people.

super glad I found your talks. started therapy recently because, as much as I was achieving the expected things, I felt I could not access my own potential and joy and just felt low and worthless. now trying to deprogram my nervous system and spirit from trauma response habits and learning to live more. many relevant topics here on your channel! based on what I've listened to so far (this and de-conditioning hungry ghosts, which was really great for my understanding of self compassion-something I struggle with), I think it will be a really excellent resource. thank you mucho!!

I believe that your teaching about embodiment is based on the Focusing method, which a powerful way of listening to bodily felt sense for deeper awareness. Your audience would benefit from going to that source, the book Focusing by Gene Gendlin. who asked the question to help people get in touch with a felt sense, "what is between me and feeling wholeness"? and coined the term felt sense for the bodily awareness he discovered.

There is a talk by Tara, that starts out naming a series of qualities that Tara says if we poses them we are probably a dog. Can anyone help me find it? I've been looking for it for a long time.

It's from Jack Kornfeld, Tara's mentor: www.wildmind.org/blogs/on-practice/best-dharma-quote-ever f you can sit quietly after difficult news; if in financial downturns you remain perfectly calm; if you can see your neighbors travel to fantastic places without a twinge of jealousy; if you can happily eat whatever is put on your plate; if you can fall asleep after a day of running around without a drink or a pill; if you can always find contentment just where you are: you are probably a dog. - Jack Kornfield

@@TaraBrach Thank you! I think I won't be able to make it, actually, as it's 1:30am for me. I'll have to stick to watching them after, but as they come out.

Bart Lubaszka we leave it up on Facebook until we post the formal video to RU-vid - usually Saturday. It’s available on podcast and tarabrach.com too, of course, but that is the edited version.

What if your body is full of pain everywhere? It’s hard to sit with that and be with that.

R.A.I.N. really helps here - speaking from experience. It sucks to be in pain a lot. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

A lot of research shows that mindfulness meditation can be extremely useful for people who experience chronic pain. This is the result of meta studies that take countless studies into account. I hope mindfulness will also help you on your path to deal with the pain :)

Stephanie, there is a free online 8 week (can take at your own pace, but meant to be done over 8 weeks--can be quicker pr longer) based on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction developed by Jon Kabat Zinn for use in a hospital for pain patients. Includes readings, videos, meditation, gentle yoga---even some stuff by Tara. Week 5 focuses on mindfulness for emotional or physical pain. I really believe it could help you: palousemindfulness.com/MBSR/week5.html
