About MLB.com: Former Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced on January 19, 2000, that the 30 Major League Club owners voted unanimously to centralize all of Baseball's Internet operations into an independent technology company. Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) was formed and charged with developing, building and managing the most comprehensive baseball experience available on the Internet. In August 2002, MLB.com streamed the first-ever live full length MLB game over the Internet when the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees faced off at Yankee Stadium. Since that time, millions of baseball fans around the world have subscribed to MLB.TV, the live video streaming product that airs every game in HD to nearly 400 different devices. MLB.com also provides an array of mobile apps for fans to choose from, including At Bat, the highest-grossing iOS sports app of all-time. MLB.com also provides fans with a stable of Club beat reporters and award-winning national columnists, the largest contingent of baseball reporters under one roof, that deliver over 100 original articles every day. MLB.com also offers extensive historical information and footage, online ticket sales, official baseball merchandise, authenticated memorabilia and collectibles and fantasy games.
Major League Baseball consists of 30 teams split between the American and National Leagues. The American League consists of the following teams: Baltimore Orioles; Boston Red Sox; Chicago White Sox; Cleveland Indians; Detroit Tigers; Houston Astros; Kansas City Royals; Los Angeles Angels ; Minnesota Twins; New York Yankees; Oakland Athletics; Seattle Mariners; Tampa Bay Rays; Texas Rangers; and Toronto Blue Jays. The National League, originally founded in 1876, consists of the following teams: Arizona Diamondbacks; Atlanta Braves; Chicago Cubs; Cincinnati Reds; Colorado Rockies; Los Angeles Dodgers; Miami Marlins; Milwaukee Brewers; New York Mets; Philadelphia Phillies; Pittsburgh Pirates; San Diego Padres; San Francisco Giants; St. Louis Cardinals; and Washington Nationals.

How fitting this happened on the Roberto Clemente Bridge. One of greatest players and humanitarians, would have been very proud of you. Shaka when the walls fell how do you know Tumpane doesn’t have his own problems? You can say people can do what they want with their lives, and I’d agree. And yet trying to save someone’s life isnt “strong-arming”; it was morally right to save her life. The difference between assisted suicide and actual suicide is the one committing the latter has a mental condition, a condition that can be treated. Almost all the people with a history of failed suicide attempts will tell you they’re glad they’re alive.

@@Shakawhenthewallsfell102 Exactly. People like that can't possibly understand how rough some people's lives are. It's that high-and-mighty attitude that pisses people off even more. @wilrobles5392 6 лет назад
Garrett Spencer Reason would suggest that not all people who commit suicide are men. Quit being silly.
@wilrobles5392
@wilrobles5392 6 лет назад
Garrett Spencer Your original statement was that women (plural) don’t commit suicide. That means all women do not commit suicide. Just on the sheer numbers of women worldwide that there are, reason says there’s bound to be some that will kill themselves. I’m sure someplace there are statistics which can verify that. Sir, I’m right, you’re wrong. Even if one woman throughout history has committed suicide, that would disprove what you said, Now, go drink your milk, go to bed, and get ready to go to work in the morning. This will be my last response to you.
@wilrobles5392
@wilrobles5392 6 лет назад
Garrett Spencer if the man had not done what he did, this emotional woman may have killed herself. He didn’t know, so he wasn’t going to take a chance. Had she not committed suicide had he ignored her, no harm, no foul. Had he ignored her and she followed through with suicide, he would have been haunted with guilt for the rest of his days. A mature person with decency and common sense would have reacted likewise. End of issue. Have a good day.

People care, but there's no way to care for everyone and everything equally all the time. During the day-to-day, our priorities and concentration shift and shift and shift again. Sometimes it takes a big emotional moment, something tragic, or near-tragic in this case, to bring out that care. But it was there underneath all along.
@SchyllingWhistle

@nottheoriginalhandle
@nottheoriginalhandle 6 лет назад
g fox it shouldn’t take something tragic to happen for people to care though, that is the issue in general. No, maybe you can’t care for everyone equally all the time, the problem is that no one cares most of the time and when you do it’s too late. It should just be second nature to help others ... this story should be normal, not triumphant

@darylmuller3521
@darylmuller3521 6 лет назад
jigglymabob it isn't the answer and never will be. Simply put all it does is transfer the suffering, pain, depression and guilt onto those who loved them and/or those who found them. I lived with depression for over 30 years. I have had suicidal thoughts at my lowest points but I know through experience that if you can get up and keep active rather than sit and dwell it helps. Seeking professional help and openly talking about it also makes it easier to live a productive and happier life. Does depression ever really go away no but if you take it out of the dark lonely places it gets easier.
@TheXeeman
@TheXeeman 6 лет назад
but if it ends your pain, isn't that what matters? why should other people's pain be of more consideration than your own? if you live in pain for the sake of others not being in pain, thats a horrible way to live isn't it?

pharohthecat his actions do not reflect those of all MLB umpires. I’m sure there are plenty that would not have been so heroic. Respect to this guy but don’t act like he just earned every big league ump the same.

Good play by the ump. Kind of poetic that it took place on the "Roberto Clemente Bridge", as he was such a benevolent human being (actually nominated for Sainthood), and the woman was rescued by an MLB official.

I hate my uncle. But another uncle i loved killed himself and it crushed me. He was a man that got in to deep trouble and beat his wife while high on cocaine then got in to a high speed chase with the cops. Served several years in jail and found god while in the pen. He came put a different man, a kind loving man always there to help in any way he could. Built his own company from nothing. He later killed himself after the company went under because he was too kind and let too many people slide on payments. He killed himself because he couldn't stand to be looked at as a failure again. After the funeral my uncle that I hate said words to me that will always stick to me and I will pass to anyone to try and help. He said "suicide is a permanent fix to a temporary problem". Never let yourself feel like there is no other option. I miss my uncle everyday.

My ex started to zone out, while I was in the passenger seat. We were going 60 mph on the highway. Though I ended the relationship for fear of my own safety, he has since died - of Alzheimer's. He was never suicidal, but deeply troubled. I tried getting in touch with his family, his Doctor, and his friends. Sometimes it helped, sometimes not. But I don't regret that part. Who can fathom the depths of the human heart and spirit? Should we step in whenever we can, and extend a hand, to another soul in pain? Of course. And to those who think, "Hey, not my problem - why should I care?" I pity them. Over and out.

That is just an incredible story. I can’t put into words just how heroic this gentleman is. We see umpires as these nondescript things behind masks that everyone gets pissed at, but they are people with hearts, just like the rest of us. Good on him. He deserves every single accolade he gets from this act. BRAVO!

This story gave me goosebumps, god bless him. It’s crazy to know that some people see what’s going on an know in there heads what’s about to happen an just keep walking an driving bye. They made a video in 2006 of the Golden Gate Bridge called ‘The Bridge’ an they had 30 suicides in that 1 year an maybe 1 out of those 30 where saved by a man who grabbed the lady’s arms an pulled her back over. It’s just crazy to watch the people just walk by an just stare at these people as they sit an think about it then just jump. I would feel guilty if I seen that an didn’t do anything about it. 30 people lost there lives cause people just walked bye or stopped an just stared at them before there last moments. So god bless him for he did for her. Nothing but love an respect for that man. Good for you dude....
