I called to have my Teac repaired for this problem. They wanted $200. After watching the section on lubing the pinch roller lever in this video twice, I fixed mine in less than 30 minutes.
I'm doing this repair right now along with this video. Trickiest part of this is under the 2 screws holding the bar and roller lifter arms down there is a small lock washer between the bar and lifter on each. If you miss putting those back on the lifters won't move.
this has been very helpful. here's where I'm at now. I replaced the gooey capstan belt, and removed the dried up oil on the pinch rollers. But the pinch rollers won't engage. If I push up on the rollers,, the tape does move which is great after 10 years of doing nothing. Suggestions??
@@GTA351C I saw from the video that I forgot to put the pins back into the pinch arms. I will pull it down again this week, and let you know how It worked out
Thanks for your video. Heat gun was definitely needed. One problem when i finished. It seems both pinch rollers engage when playing, and the tape comes away from the play head because the tape starts to feed more than it takes up. Is only one roller supposed to engage depending on which direction you select? If i remove say the left roller, it works fine. Thanks!
Hey Mean Gene, most of these machines came in a cabinet or had side panels mounted. There are some folks who make aftermarket cabinets and side panels that look amazing. You could get a cabinet shop to make a custom one as well. Great to hear from you, bruh.

@@5thcomm Bought in 1985. In one direction it will play for a bit and then stop. Sent it to a guy in Arizona and he replaced a motor and belts as well as a general overhaul. Got it back after a nice big bill and it is still doing the same thing. When playing to the left is seems just fine. All functions operate perfectly other than when it plays to the right.
