Good work. I have them both. They are at the top of the line in there categories. In fact, the S-2000 is the same Grundig satellit 750 but re-branded. It is excellent and could be taken as tabletop radio or a bit portable. Cheers ✌️
I've always been fascinated by the Tecsun S-2000 and the Sangean ATS-909X/X2. The ATS-909X would make a really cool bedside shortwave radio (that lovely large white backlit LCD display) while the S-2000 is the most affordable enthusiast level desktop receiver. Well, there's also the advanced desktop transceivers from ICOM and Yaesu but I can't afford them! 😣
@@wavezone2566 You are correct, my friend. ICOM and Yaesu cater to the professional communications market, that's why they have never sold portable receivers. Similarly, Tecsun's products are made for the consumer market, that's why the company mostly makes affordable portable and pocket shortwave radios. 📻☺️ That said, today only ICOM sells communications receivers (non transceivers). Kenwood and Yaesu no longer make receive-only HF equipment; they only sell ham transceivers which are more expensive than receivers.
The test was on a telescope. The S2000 has minimal noise, the 909x is noticeably noisier, but the sensitivity is about the same and I can't understand all this talk about the poor sensitivity of the 909x on a telescope. According to my observations, the sensitivity of both receivers is about the same, there may be small discrepancies, but everything is within the margin of error. And I agree that the new sangean sounds better on AM. On the old one, the sound is of course a little deaf on the 3khz filter, but on 4khz it is much better.
@@wavezone2566 I think the sangean is suffering from soft muting, you can turn it off on the 909 X2 but don't remember if you can turn it off on the 909 x ?
@@o00scorpion00o There is no such option on the old version, but there is no information about the presence of "soft mute". There is only "squelch", but I have it disabled.
@@o00scorpion00o Perhaps there is this "soft mute", but even if there is, it cannot be turned off. I read that on 909x2 soft mute is only on FM. I don't know how reliable this is. I also wanted to ask, is your new antenna better than bonito? And will there be a comparison of these antennas?
You sold the 2000 because you didn't like the AM BC performance??? Can you expound? I did a search & haven't found any major issues aside from the rotating ferrite antenna contacts. Thanx.
I didn't like the sound on the AM, it's deaf and there's a lot of bass. I didn't have enough high frequencies. At high volume, something began to rattle and resonate inside the case. The screen glass fell out, I put it back in). On the metal handles, one rubber band began to peel off and crawl. It is stated that this is a professional receiver, but there is no synchronization function. Inconvenient ssb setup, a small step. A lot of flaws.
I came here because I wanted to see if the Sangean ATS-909x was a better performer wide/narrow band filtering wise as I am aware of the problems with the S-2000 / Eaton Elite 750 radio. While I like the size of the Sangean better, I was completely turned off by the tinny sound of that speaker. In fact I didn't even get through the video as I am thinking that I don't even like the styling on the 909x. While it does come in at a better price point than the S-2000, it is still over $200. Naw, it is a pass on both for me. I am really looking for something around the price of the Tecsun- PL880, but has better SSB performance and a set of bass and treble controls and a meter can't hurt either.
@@wavezone2566 But it is the worst option in terms of cost. I see this fetching over $400 on Ebay...used. I can get a full on Ham radio for that price. I have a budget, It has to be less than $200 or bust.
@@wavezone2566 That may be, but it is the worst option in terms of cost. I would go as far as $200, but anything over that, I feel, is too much for a portable carry around radio. I see what some of the older radios (from the 70's and 80's) go for on Ebay, and it is absurd. I doubt many of those old radios would outperform a new one. As it is, I bet most of them are in need of an alignment, something you don't have to worry about on a new radio. The S-2000 does hark back to those old style radios, but it is a bit too big.
