Repairing a Telefunken branded JVC VHS-C recorder that wouldn't load tapes. This one was a bit annoying for reasons that can be seen when watching the video. That's what happens when you don't have the right part though. Got there in the end and the machine works well.

Great repair. Subbed. I did not know about those fuses. I have a couple of these machines with cracked plastic tracks for the loading arms. They seem to have shrunk as they have gaps between the cracks stopping the arms from completeing the laceing up. Haven't figured out a remedy yet.

Thanks. That's strange. I don't know what you could do to repair it, maybe fill the gaps with something but I'm not sure what would be suitable. It would need to be able to stay in place and also be smooth enough for the arms to run on. Maybe epoxy putty could do the job.

@@nowt1002 yer that's what I was thinking. I'll get round to it next year and make a video.

Those wire reels in the background almost make for a makeshift color bars pattern. 😁

Yeah they are handy for that. I should get the correct colour ones to make it even better.

When you opened it I was expecting to see one of the miniature video drums that were used on camcorders. But I guess this pre-dates the camcorder so the smaller 4 head drum with the larger 270 degree tape wrap hadn't been invented at the time this deck was made.

Yeah full size head drum in this. I think the small 4 head one was first used in the 3V41/GRC1 in 1984 so it predates it by about a year I think.

Where did you find the service manual? I just won an auction for the JVC HR-C3 (NTSC US version) and the GZ-S3 camera, as well as all of the accessories (AC power supply, battery, car power supply, manuals, and protective soft cases for the camera and VTR)

I think I got it off freeservicemanuals.info it doesn't seem to be there anymore though. I've got it on my Google drive though (it's the pal one though) drive.google.com/file/d/11gP7UppSk50J-EuCnQKdm2SdsZ10W0OM/view?usp=drivesdk

Thanks for sharing the manual. I am starting repairs on a Ferguson version I just got. Found loads of leaking caps which I have replaced but still got a bw picture on playback.

Maybe the mechanism is stuck due to old grease and the loading motor is working harder drawing more current and popping the fuse?
@nowt1002

Yes someone else suggested that. It looked OK but I didn't really give it a proper inspection. I've got some fuses of the correct size now to fit so I'll relube it while I have it open and see how it goes.

The reason of the IC protector go in OC, is caused for the slipping load belt. Need replace this belt, and re-grease the loading mechanism, after replace this belt the IC protector not go open anymore. Pay attention to cleaning all the idler on the reel assy. This VTR suffer of bad capacitor.

Thanks. I'll re-check the loading belt and mech. The belt seemed OK when I felt it but I'll have another look at it.

@@LibraAudioLaboratory thanks for the info. I've got a JVC GRC1 VHSC videomovie and it has a mechanical fault. However I don't think it's related to loading as it appears to be the captain belt is slipping and the tape is not moving and it's causing it to shut down. It seems to load fine and unthread fine. I guess it would be useful to just regrease the loading gears anyways.
