I spoke to Maureen after this show that was at the Edinburgh Playhouse and mentioned her crying and she said she cries every night and if she didn't cry, she would feel she would have cheated her audience. It was also the same week her sister Bernie passed away.
MyBobbert, Maureen is my absolute favourite Mrs J and I have seen Blood Brothers many times over the years and going again next year!! This was the same week as her beloved sister died. :-(
I only watched Maureen in blood brothers she is absolutely amazing she played the role of mrs Johnstone very well I hope she come back in blood brothers again hopefully fingers crossed
I saw Maureen Nolan in Blood Brothers last night, she was absolutely phenomenal. She truly owned the role as an actress and was utterly believable. The final scene is the best I've seen it done, and I've seen it quite a few times now. Martin Pellow also deserves a mention, he was great and still gorgeous!
Now saw the show and it was the best version i have heard yet .Maureen is funny, gritty and has a super voice .keith jack ,richard and adam ,oklahoma and carousel next .all Edinburgh[ish]
Melanie C is still my favorite in that role. I get chills every time I hear her. The young men who play her sons, wipe their eyes when they get up at the end. I think they can really feel Melanie's heartbreak. Not since Hamlet has there been such a sad play.
My favourite Mrs J x Maureens just soars at the end and her acting is perfect! She looks alot like my mother so I guess that makes her performance that bit more personal. 5 stars 🌟
I saw the show the other night and Maureen was incredible she played that role so well and got me captivated into it .. She is such an incredible actress and she should play this role forever as she is amazing .... Her emotion when singing really got me and I was amazed :) amazing show everyone was good but she got my attention and my favourite :) xxx
Thanks for uploading. Went to see the show last night at the Birmingham Hippodrome and I must say Maureen's voice was captivating. Such strong vocals which filled the whole auditorium up. Class.
Another thing I notice is when she sings this song at the end the emotion of the song takes over and that's why she belts out such an incredible tune :) you can tell it drained her from the emotion in her face and how over powering it was .... but that shows she played her role and she performed it well !! More than well she performed it amazing that I am so happy that I am seeing it for the 3rd time :) Maureen Nolan you make the show and you do it amazing :) I would be proud xxxx
+Carys Jones... Carys, I spoke to Maureen one of the times I saw her playing Mrs J and I told her it seemed like she cries as she sings this song and she told me she does cry every time as the emotion gets to her every time and if she doesn't cry, she feels she has cheated the audience (or words to that effect). She's simply fabulous in the part.
+lucielocket I really wanna meet her :) and you can tell she cries coz the emotion in her voice and face brings her character real which is incredible :) ... Seeing her face at the end when she bows you can see how it drains her and how powerful her character is :) and that shows me that she is incredible I am so happy I'm gonna see this again coz she is the reason and a lot people need to tell her :) I think she always play this role coz of how fab she is :) , when I saw her the other night she needed help off the stage coz of how emotional she took the role an played it bloody amazing that wen she kneels down in that song her legs actually gave away but she kept on and she stole the show :) incredible xxxx
Carys Jones I hope you'll meet her, Carys as she is very very nice to speak to and she loves to know people's feelings on the show. You have summed her up perfectly, emotionally drained!!
+lucielocket I'm glad someone agree with me and maybe when I see her while I am still crying I will tell her how amazing she is and that she plays the role perfect and truly incredible to watch xx
+lucielocket because she is a credit to watch and because you have met her and told me that she likes the feedback then she deserves to know :) coz she has inspired me to maybe start drama :) xxx
Only just seen this clip. I love it also because two of my old mates are in it, Warwick Evans and Danny Taylor. I also know the two on the floor, sean and Mark, but they didn't sing in this bit!
Maureen Nolan is the best Mrs Johnstone ever she is sooooooooo emotional when she sings tell me it's not true at the end and that's my favourite song in BLOOD BROTHERS.
Maureen IS Mrs J, hands down. Man she knows how to pull at our heartstrings, rips my heart out every time. I hate hearing her cry because it was so close to her losing Bernie. I saw Maureen in April 2014 and some poor girl had a panic attack when the guns went off so you could hear her crying into the mic before she started singing and 9 times out of 10 you don't hear her until she starts singing. 10 minutes later when I was the first one to greet her at stage door though (once I'd stopped crying, I was still in tears walking out the theatre) she had the biggest smile on her face. Told her I'd come all the way from New Zealand just to see her, face was priceless, a memory I'll treasure forever. Sad she's not going back to BB next year but hope she goes back in a few years. She lost her voice a few weeks before that and Tracey had to step up and Tori stepped up to play Mrs Lyons and they were both amazing but the differences in emotion really showed.
MrDefyinggravity1 It was my little old FujiFinepix that was about 8 years old at the time! I was filming it covertly from the ledge in the circle trying not to be seen and just aimed and hoped for the best so sorry the filming's a bit dodgy at times but Maureen's singing is so emotional and it was a couple of days before her sister sadly passed away. :(
+Alex Colderley Not in Manchester and I'd rather not say where it was as I wasn't supposed to film it - hence it not being very good as my camera was kept down low!
