Fun video to watch. I’m an ex D1 player living in the PNW also. Took a long break from tennis after college and recently in last year started playing a little bit again. Like you I have been playing with a local D1 recruit. Having not played for 11 years after college it’s my fitness and returns that have been the hardest to find. Keep up posting the great content it’s fun to see some other guys out there local.

Great stuff, I'm also working on that 'elbow' /w my eastern grip. Need to use more footwork to get in position for more topspin than flat... my friend's western forehand cheats :p
@andreysmirnov7461
@andreysmirnov7461 2 года назад
You could try going closer to semi-western grip. My grip is between semi western and easter so also pretty open

@@andreysmirnov7461 Holy - Tennis is such an annoying game. Particularly if your an amateur, but at an advanced level. If you don't have a good network of friends, your doomed. You won't get a decent hit with anyone :(

keep the videos coming. fitness and intensity will be huge for getting that success in the futures level. IMO you need to move into the court more often instead of staying back and sort of waiting and reacting. really look to move forward and dictate with your footwork.
@andreysmirnov7461
@andreysmirnov7461 2 года назад
Yep, a lot of time will be dedicated to footwork in off season

Can you make a similar video but for Backhands? I have a major issue with my backhand. During practice, I can "feel" myself hitting the backhand well and consistent. But during a match, I lose the feeling and it causes me to resort to only hitting slices on the backhand side because I can't "feel" the topspin shot. Two handed backhand like yours. How can I fix this?
@andreysmirnov7461
@andreysmirnov7461 2 года назад
I will for sure be doing a video about the backhand. Hopefully that will help you:)

Awesome! What does it mean to put shape on the ball?
@andreysmirnov7461
@andreysmirnov7461 2 года назад
Have higher net clearence and make the path of the ball be more like a bell shape instead of straight line (flat)

You could pause the video for a second if you are explaining some particular shot. Much easier to follow. :) Also in some parts the video's audio and your added commentary got a little bit mixed up and it was hard to follow. Great video though, will try these exercises!

I mean, truly as long as you have high enough tension on your racket, the racket angle and speed forward is what puts spin on the ball. For that you need a forward lag. And I wouldn't use a wrist lag, it is an arm lag that includes your wrist. The idea that you put spin on the ball by shaping your racket is false. You can do it for not so common occasions -- the ball is low or high, out of your strike zone, but that's it. In strike zone, swing through at the right angle with proper acceleration and you have a SUPER paced ball with tons of spin.

Seems like you’re deliberately finishing your forehand with elbow pointing up and forward like Thiem.

The Thiem finish is my goal as well!!! I do it well in warmups and when points start I forget, gotta keep hammering it!!! I did it consistently awhile back and it basically took the net miss out.. But I stopped doing it after awhile.
