Watching VIN hack together that exhaust was some of the best content I've seen in a while lol. Watching the Hoonigan boys struggle makes me feel like less of an idiot working on my own project car faking it till I make it 😂
Car vloggers/garage mechanics take notes One thing I’ve found watching these videos is that there’s minimal bs, just straight to the install and filling in details as they go. None of this filming the drive to a buddies place or talking about other peoples cars and what not. Thank you everyone at hoonigan I appreciate you all
agreed, I have an F80 with the m-performance exhaust (which is even louder than Vin's stock exhaust) and the cold start makes me cringe. seriously considering having it mapped out.
@@shona5512the old straight 6 1st gen? I've never heard it as much as I love the later is300s and larger. Thought about buying a 200 cuz you can still do a lot to build them out but yeah.
@@hi_tech_reptiles The 1G-FE, the 2.0 6 Cylinder engine from the IS200.. If you live in the UK or Ireland, and you've been to any drift day since 2015, you'll know how much of a plague these engines have been. Especially because everyone seems to straight pipe them and they are so raspy and tinny. However, strap a turbo to one of them and they do have the ability to sound good, but most people don't go to that extent, so they mostly just sound like utter shite.
I agree with vin, F80 is the best daily I have owned. It's the perfect "1 car does it all" for me. 600whp, 4 doors for my sons car seats, comfortable/sporty interior, modern features, Apple car play, adaptive suspension, looks amazing. Doesn't sound great but I went with the single midpipe myself and resonated downpipes. Almost no rasp.
@@jaimehurtado356 Nice, that sounds like a beast. I've owned mine for ~10 months now and I'm definitely wanting more power now - I daily it with the engine + gearbox in the most aggressive modes and MDM turned on and it's beginning to feel a little tame. Never thought i'd be saying that!
@@AnalBeard Iv had mine going on 4 years modded it over time and have enjoyed every bit of it! My favorite part is that in comfort mode it still drives and sounds stock 👍🏼 I daily mine 2 hour rounds trips to work 5 days a week just about to hit 100k got it with 43k miles
That stock F80 exhaust at idle sounds like a damn tow-behind air compressor, what the hell BMW. Sounds better with the macaroni midpipe. Bolt on boys, hell yeah baybee

keep the coathanger hood pin. with the janky junk exhaust, you can call the car "Back alley" to go along with the hood pin. and man, that exhaust build was the equivalent of watch some dude in a straight jacket bash their heads into a wall to make the voices stop. i love it.
Best video I have seen in a long time! Watching VIN work on the F80 thinking wow he is such a classy scumbag and I respect it. Always has gorgeous cars and takes time to do everything right. Then watching him work on the E36 do nothing the right way made me laugh nonstop! The comment about just welding the exhaust to the body was too good! Keep up the great work Vin!
Idk i had a 2000 E46 328ci with the M52 as a first car my second car was an 08 350z HR. For some reason i think the VQ35HR sounded better. Now I have an 18 340i sounds great imo.
this is a myth which will never die. the crank hub is fine if you aren't running a huge tune and booting it outside of the power band - drive it in the power band and you're fine (aka drive properly)
The equal length midpipe sounds good i was thinking about the active autowerke single midpipe for my F80 but after hearing that i might want the equal length
The BMW builder in me wanted to complain about you bitching about the sound of the e36 then I remembered how bad my m50b30 sounded with a cut exhaust. I ended up having to install a thrush hush thrush muffler. When I get further into my turbo e83 x3 build I'll be definitely doing something on par with the Thrush in a stainless package. I like quiet cars that have no business being as built as they are.
It's probably free flowing enough that there's not a measurable difference. 1HP kinda thing. Honestly, you've got cats and turbos in front of it, they're so much more of a restriction that it won't matter. You might even notice a HP gain simply due to being more equal length and matching exhaust pulses...but again turbo and cats make that negligable.

@0:18 - So, when Hoonigan decides to go dark on a channel before renaming it, do you guys pull a new name from a list you've already come up with(for the annual renaming of channels) beforehand or do you just make it up on the spot? Inquiring minds and such... The F80 went from "OMG WTF" to "...meh" - solid improvment! The E36 went from sounding like it's ready for the crusher to actually sounding pretty damn decent - hell yea!
i have a turner motorsport cat-back resonator/muffler delete on my e90 and its AWESOME! pretty sure its not cal legal but i dont live in cali so send it.
I would prefer to keep twins for all out power the single is the way to go but I appreciate the twin turbo torque that comes in early rather than waiting
Idk, rasp is gone in both, but neither sound like a v8. Both sound waaaaaayyyy better, but still no throat. That said. Black M3 looks awesome. Beauties done like a pro. Like the mods and the spec, aside from the paddles ( daily driver so understand ), but sports car has to have a stick. Drive safe. Slay some tires for us.
Anyone ever looked at a computer board with PCIE or Ram? The little circuit tracks do the same squiggly thing to keep the length matched. Never thought to apply the same to an exhaust!!
