Thanks so much for sharing the procedure. Quick question, do we need to bleed the brake fluid while pressing the pistons in? Can we just open the brake reservoir cap to let the pressure go out without loosing brake fluid?
I like to open the bleeder so that way whatever crud that settles in the calipers will drip out vs going back up into the lines. You can do it either way though. Plus brake fluid is hydroscopic and will absorb moisture so it's a good idea to service it every every so often.
Thanks for the video! I have a question, can I use Brakeleen to clean the pads.. they’re not worn out to replace but I was not sure of using a brake cleaner on the pads itself. Thank you!
I spray the shops bulk brake cleaner on brake shoes and pads all the time without any issue. If I'm reusing pads, I like to use a sanding block on the surface to even out the wear pattern.

Have the brakes inspected the next time your tires are rotated while it's on the lift. You may be able to look up inside the wheel yourself and see the outer brake pads. They sell cheap measuring gauges that you can check the pad thickness. If the pads are 2 or three millimeters then they need to be serviced very soon. www.amazon.com/Lisle-81850-Combination-Brake-Lining/dp/B00OJG327E/ref=asc_df_B00OJG327E/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5867973331562478612&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033389&hvtargid=pla-2281435180218&mcid=ceb922e8e1973c30b68bb5c70edfa826&hvocijid=5867973331562478612-B00OJG327E-&hvexpln=73&gad_source=1&th=1
What do you charge for a job like this? Might have to take my X in when needed (and do some cross border shopping too since it’s like a 2 hour drive to Snohomish from where I am). That was really professional and fast. Had all 4 of my Model S done at the Tesla center in Vancouver, Canada and they charged me $6500CAD/4800USD. They said everything needed to be replaced (callipers, rotors, pads, etc.). My Model S rear brakes have dual callipers while the Model X looks the same on all 4.
Now that's an expensive brake job!😢 I work in an offsite not for hire facility, we recondition the dealerships trade-in & auction vehicles. I don't see the pricing, just a repair ticket but can say the front brake pads/rotors on this X were around $300. A honest reputable repair facility should not charge much more than $700 for this exact service 👍
Very little snow and deicer on the roads here in western Washington so vehicles don't get rusty. If Tesla added stainless hardware then I could only imagine the cost 👍
Ya know, I have no clue but great question. I wonder if any brake pads have asbestos these days? Got me curious now, guess I'll need to do some research.
Good old fashioned hydraulic brakes just don't fail unless there is a large leak. I think it would be tough to make electric brakes reliable but hey, what do I know. LOL
