I always wondered why you advocate for animal free materials. Isn't leather a byproduct of the meat industry? As long as meat demand far overweighs leather demand and cows get killed anyway, why should so many leather pelts go to waste instead of being used?

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nP_CvLlaFlI.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tkjCAmq1_8E.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u94YXJ72UTA.html Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

@@autogefuehl ... Hi there. Interesting review since i'm considering buying a Tesla. Got 2-3 questions : in your video you said you wouldnt recommend the 'performance' version. Why is that ? and as far as suspension is concerned, is it too stiff ? not enough ? ... and one last point, you mentioned something about 'ambient light' in the tunnel. What do you mean by that, i.e. what were you missing ?. Cheers.

Yep that’s why I was confused why he didn’t like the placement of the mirrors and steering wheel adjustments. You just set it to whatever you want, and then save the profile and BAM it’s immediately saved forever. Saves your seating position, steering wheel placement, mirror settings, and automatically adjusts it back to wherever you want with 1 click. And can save multiple profiles for multiple people. This seemed like a non-issue to me since you only ever set it once and it’s saved forever

What initially is weird is the totally black space above the steering wheel, because there isn’t a instrument cluster. Tesla camera parameters are actually optimized for the neural net and image processing. The exception is rear camera which primarily serves humans for backing up the car. The side camera views that are shown on screen can be considered as an add-ons. Glove box physical control is not given, so that you can set a pin for your car and stop the valets or thieves from getting to the glove box.
@FizzBhaal
@FizzBhaal 2 года назад
Yes. Except the S/X have a physical button which is just electric, so you can still set a PIN. Pressing the button will then pop up the PIN display. I think it is a question of design, in the SX they could hide the button next to the screen. In the 3Y there is nowhere to hide it, so they removed it
@Moebelmannn

Not really an explanation on the cameras. They could adjust image temperature settings for just the driver view in the car, that would have no effect on the camera parameters as utilized by their neural net.

I rode in a model 3 a week ago. One thing no reviewer mentions is the enormous amount of floor space for the passenger. I had another person sitting behind me with plenty of room and I could fully straighten my legs under the glovebox. I also got to drive it a bit. You basically never use the brake pedal at all because the motor regen will bring the car to a complete stop. It's weird at first but easy to get used to. I feel like once you have used one pedal driving for a while it would be annoying to go back to a normal car.

@@martinsvensson6884 Not sure that is really a problem. The car doors are already electric (in all cars with frameless windows), and you operate them a lot more than the glovebox. In the S/X they found a place on the dash next to the screen to hide the button (and it is still electric, so can be blocked by pin). On the 3/Y there was no good spot, so design trumped utility because most people use the glovebox very seldom.

I don’t really miss ambient lighting it’s not so much a premium feature anymore as every brand has it and I find the simple lighting in the Tesla’s to be a calmer experience. The UI and software experience is another level and has yet to be approached by traditional makes. Anyone else offer in vehicle entertainment and gaming? It will be interesting to see if someone like Nintendo partners with a car company to enhance in vehicle gaming. Anyone considering etron or German makes I spoke with a service advisor and they still are going to hit you with scheduled maintenance the only thing you won’t do is oil changes, so if you enjoy visiting your dealer and spending money don’t worry their EV’s will still offer that experience. Personally I like the way Tesla does it recommending some things but service “as needed”.

Cars are the easy sector to achieve clean emissions. The production chain is being addressed, and it is quite obvious a difficult task. It will be years before we can produce rare earth metals cleanly, but the day will come. I have driven a Model Y for over a year now in US. I agree with you on all the strong points and the weak ones. I don't mind not having a heads-up display or a front instrument panel, so it's not such a negative to me. The suspension, however, can certainly be built/tuned better. Honestly though, I don't notice much about the suspension jolts anymore after months with the car. It's still super fun to drive every single time. The acceleration thrills when the pedal is pressed never get old! I also found the standard (aggressive) regen braking works well for me. In fact, it's a huge plus! The convenience of one-pedal driving and the regen braking that comes with it mean efficiency. I'm sure other drivers can adapt to Tesla's regen behaviors after a short while. The brake pedal is still needed in urgent situations; it's just not used that often. Naturally the brake pads will wear out a lot slower in an EV.

What a refreshing and insightful review. I'm an EV fan in general and I am especially impressed with Tesla in particular. However reviews in the US tend to be biased for or against Tesla. Your comments such as regarding the suspension, choosing the LR over the performance model, and about the lack of heads-up display all seemed insightful -- things Tesla might even use as feedback for future models. Regarding the suspension, you said that the Germans are better. I wonder is that comparing mid-level spec vehicles between Tesla and the other manufacturers? I wonder how Tesla's performance model compares against the German competitors. The prices are changing all the time, but the performance model isn't so much more than the long range version. So I certainly agree with your oversight comments about Tesla models 3 & Y suspensions & I think having the controls located on the one screen throws a lot of people when they first get the car, but I was able to quickly adapt to the one screen being located in the center of the dash as it gives it that minimalist balanced look, but it’s not a major thing to overcome! So the suspension was my issue as well & I certainly hope that in the future they offer a different suspension than what’s currently standard on the model 3 & Y & I think overall if an individual is making a decision as to whether he or she is going to buy a Tesla or some other brand, they should take into consideration the overall cost of ownership, as well as the fact that I don’t know of another vehicle that can actually do what Tesla cars can do in terms of driver assist features, even while we have criticism coming from some detractors of Tesla & also from the US government agencies investigating Tesla’s use of these features, but Tesla is a head of all the other car brands in terms of achieving a fully autonomous driving car! So unlike the other car manufacturers Tesla has imagined a future where no one drives a motor vehicle on the highway any place in the world & they are well on their way in my opinion of achieving it & the other thing to consider is their network of DC fast chargers, as Tesla has more of these DC fast charges than anyone & they’re continuing to build out their network of these DC fast chargers! So I’d say that overall Tesla is simply the better value for the money! So thank you for posting this video & I gave you 2👍🏾👍🏾 up for content & quality & look forward to seeing you in your next posting! Cheers!

That said, the whole package and the chassis is amazing, like one piece of stiff metal, and contributes a lot, and ironically for family SUV, to this incredible sport car’s feel. I don’t agree with the need for an additional driver display, I’m in the less is better camp. Another small point you didn’t mention is that all the provided accessories you shown in the Frunk can be all placed in the second forward cargo space you didn’t show behind the back seats. You can also buy for around €2k the software option to increase acceleration from 5s to 4.4s 0-100km/h, but I believe, as you shown, it’s not really necessary. I agree - I have the 2018 Q5 and I set the ambient light colour once and never touched it again I barely even notice it… just a gimmick the famed virtual cockpit is largely useless here in Canada as we cannot use google maps there but only the inferior awful audi maps so I always use the google on the carplay on the display to the right - maybe I sometimes glance to check my speed in front but mostly I look to the right for the maps, music and the rest… so no, the display in the front is not needed at all.. head up displays just put stuff in my field of view causing a distraction/disturbance and I find them annoying.. I prefer the clean view - nothing to obstruct or distract my Q5 is the highest trim there is, and I find that most of it is a one time thing, not needed and/or poorly implemented like the charging pad or the cupholders or the storage etc.. just bad and in their refresh they did worse - hence I put the order on the MY and will be returning the audi in a month.. and yeah consumption is astronomical in the city where I drive 99% of my time.. short commutes.. like 18-20 L/100km.. most of these complaints are about the things u either don’t need or are just a matter of habit and getting used to smth else.. in my opinion, better

I think that suspension wise you have to consider that the cars without air suspension will be harder, the EVs weigh more so they need stiffer springs. On air suspension its easier to give higher degree of comfort, yet then you wont have the sharp handling of the coilover springs... So its really not a "right or wrong", but more what suits you. But in the future, like the next generation of Tesla battries, you will get much less weight in the vehicle and then you can actually soften up spring rates and rather put on stiffer sway bars, then the body roll will still be nonexistant, while small bumps and uneven roads also will be better handled, together with sharper steering. So this battery is on the way :-) I hope we will see it in Y Performance coming from Germany.

I feel its possibly the best exterior look of any Tesla so far, still not for me. Thomas, I saw Ryan Douthit on Driving Sports TV drive the new Lexus UX, are you going to drive it soon too?

In the US the Model Y was granted a 5.4 out of 5 for safety by NSHTA. The safest production car you can buy. Curtain airbags aren’t an option. They are standard. In my previous Audi A4 Avant they where an option. With Tesla safety isn’t an option. It is standard.

lol how old was that A4? At least in germany curtain airbags are standard in all cars in the last 10 years.

Great vid! I agree a HUD would be nice. I like the lowered look of the Performance. I’d like to see ventilated seats & privacy cover in the trunk 😀

Thanks for a great review. Where is the rear fog light located? We don't get them in the US though I think it's there just a code that's missing.

Isn't there a setting for how sporty the steering is? I've driven model 3 Performance and it had 3 modes for the steering wheel.

Yes, there is and it makes a big difference in handling.

Yep, comfort, standard and sport. He kept saying how sporty the steering is but you can adjust it to whatever level you like

The glove box control on the screen is for security. They moved the usb dock from the middle console to the glovebox and provided the option to passcode protect it so it wouldn’t get stolen. Very practical to me.

Model S/X does the same, but still provides a button integrated in the design. It’s an electric button, and will pop up the PIN on the screen if enabled

For the Performance/handling trade off I don’t think the suspension is bad at all? Should have some more interior lighting, and maybe a head up display, most needed is door handle lighting for the outside at night.
