I've had a MY LR for 3 months and agree with a few of your niggles. It took 2 months to get my seat right and I leave the rear belts fastened when not in use. Auto Lights and Auto Wipers are admittedly not great, they work fine but need a bit of work. The beauty is that a software update will probably sort them out at some point. I find voice commands good, you just need to find the right phrasing and you can add a few shortcut (buttons) to the bottom of the screen, so no digging around in menus required. Autopilot & Autosteer are amazing and yeah they are far from perfect but the technology and implementation is brilliant. Doing everything through voice and the screen is easy and I don’t miss the cluttered interior or dials. I’ve had a lot of ICE cars but I definitely think the MY tops them all, its the future or at least in the short term anyway. If you’ve ordered one don’t be worried, it’ll be awesome. If you’ve never tried one then do it, you’ll probably be surprised.
You can turn off auto high beams while using auto pilot. Simply push the high beam stalk forward. High beams are then manual until you push stalk fwd again. It will reset for your next drive.
Mrs JustGetaTesla here. Your Leaf? It was MY Nissan Leaf! It was a great little runabout, the worst thing about was the horrifically poor customer service from Evans Halshaw. The range was really poor, much less than they claimed. And regards to the sily voice command, let's not forget that Elon Musk has a mental age of about 15! I've driven the Model Y a couple of times and admit I have not used the autopilot - quite honestly, I always turn off the Lane Assist on my Ioniq as it annoys TF out of me.
Poor ergonomics. Bizarre boot layout with suspension intrusions. Poor visibility with a-pillars so wide they had to add crescent shaped windows in them. Horrendous screen GUI. Screen used to get moisture inside it! The only thing I liked was the drivetrain.
having just watched your video I too have the same issues with the mirror plastic surround in place, the plastic cover on the visor magnests and vanity mirror pvc protectors , however the gaps in my trim, doors and general panels appear considerably smaller than on your Y model. Great videos BTW and really enjoyed your Scottish road trips and advice. Cheers.
G'Day Ian. re the headlights flashing high low high ad nauseam, it gave me the shits so much I decided not to use AP at night. This BTW is a NEW feature (not being able to switch auto headlight dipping). Previously you COULD have auto headlights OFF and still have AP active. It was one of those 'fix it, even though it wasn't broken' ideas. What shame no-one really thought about it. 😞
Took delivery of my Fremont Model Y LR in Nov 2022. No gap issues on the interior or exterior that yours had. You can stop the auto high beams from going off even with basic auto pilot by pushing on the left stalk, but with the last release our are working 9.9 out of 10 Our delivery prep was 100%. My MY still has the ultra sonic sensor which I am thankful for. Agree the seats should be longer for more thigh support No rattle or squeaks of any kind in my MY after 2000 miles Dude you bought a $55k car get a phone that charges wirelessly. Put the charging pads around your house. Life will be better in many ways, :) I hear the hey a $55k car should not have these minor issues. I think Tesla focuses more on the software and drive train and no other $55k car has either of those items that can hold a candle to a Tesla and that is why I bought it.
Thanks for the video. All the concerns are pretty easy to live with… some of them you’ll forget in one year, some of them fix, like seat belts… Ordered model y lr, waiting to pick it up. With all the pros, i like the concepts, driving style, etc. Switched from bmw f10 535iX, dont regret at all…
I remember my F10! In SE spec it was a big disappointment vs the E91 ES I came out of. Suspension was too soft for the "ultimate driving machine" claim
@@justgetatesla indeed, i had a dynamic suspension, and on the bumps i had to break almost to 10kmh, while all the other “priuses” were going 25-30kmh without any hesitation. Im my bmw i loved my upgrader sport seats with extended leg support, I’ll miss them a lot… But to get a tesla you should be ready to switch your mindset. Maybe I’ll regret about it later, but looking forward to get it. In NL we have a really great supercharger coverage, and I hope other eu countries will improve it a lot asap. Thanks for your content :)
I wish they had left on the screen protector so I could remove it when I was ready to replace it with a new one. I just buckle the back seat-belts so they don't rattle around.
A few similar experiences with my m3p. The seat belt rattle drives me mad. I basically have to pull the passenger belt forward over the side support. Auto main beam is dreadful and switched off on mine when ‘manually’ driving. And the seat isn’t deep enough, I find that too. The only other thing I wish I could switch off is the flashing headlights when in sentry. It drawers attention and I keep getting people telling me my car is flashing all the time. Still love the car though. It’s just brilliant 👍
Thanks for the tip about the clear plastic on the rear view mirror. I thought that was intended to be permanent and was just a rather naff design feature! Definitely looks better without. Not realizing the passenger side rattle was just the seat belt I brought it in to a service center. They glued a rubber block to the side of the seat which seems to have fixed it. They did say they were working on a more professional retro-fit fix though. While waiting for the appointment I noticed a bigger problem and asked them to look at that too. My driveway has a steep slope up to the garage. The auto-hold gives way on the steepest parts. It is not just that it is not quite strong enough, it gives up completely and the car accelerates down slope even with the foot completely off both peddles. Worse this happens even if the drive direction is up hill (either forward or reverse). Not sure if this is intentional, but in my view it is wrong - the car should never move against the selected drive direction under any circumstances. It can make it very difficult to start moving up hill because it will not let you ride the brake whilst taking up the torque with the accelerator - as soon as you take your foot off the brake it starts moving in the wrong direction. They claimed to have fixed it and I can convince myself it is slightly better, but I suspect it is just that I've got better at avoiding the worst situations. They did not have a hill steep enough at the center, so I had to take their word for it. Another design fail is that the wing mirrors do not fold completely flat which a slightly more considered design would allow. OK they retract inside the otherwise widest part of the car, but they are still vulnerable to damage by snagging clothing of pedestrians or cyclists who brush past while parked.
Why not put the phone inside the centre console storage compartment? BTW test drove a 21 Model 3 and the seat belt rattled where it attached to the centre pillar. But my Toyota has a rattle, and it's dull to drive unlike the M3 which is a fun go-cart.
As regards PDI checks it appears all manufacturers are the same: My new Skoda came with the passenger airbag turned off? My wife’s Kia came with no windscreen washer fluid and was covered with stickers. Where the stickers had been removed the plastic was scratched! Both cars were from manufacturer main dealers.
How about this is a bug, the wing mirrors have an option to tilt down when reversing, both left and right can be individually controlled...apparently. But no, if you want the left one to tilt down but the right one not, when parallel parking, it can't be done. They both tilt down. Does yours do the same?
No rattles myself but I've left my M3 rear seat buckles latched into the seats for years so when I have stuff placed on the seats I don't get the seatbelt warnings. Surprised you didn't mention auto wipers. Voice commands on mine don't work when it doesn't have mobile signal. Mine still had the plastic peel on the passenger side B pillar. Had screenwash though.
How do feel about the removal of the radar, the USS, and now I hear the parking sensors are being taken away too?😮 I ask because I’m thinking about ordering one very soon. Your videos are very good.
Same here... Tight parking spot without parking sensors is no business for me. I am not into that at all. At the end even mirrors will be removed because you can see behind the car just by turning your head back.
As I understand it, what we see on the screen and the audible warnings won't change. Its just that the car will use cameras instead of ultrasonics to measure the distances. The real stupid is that you can't access a front-facing camera view for parking. There are *multiple* front cameras and they work on Sentry and dashcam modes. But not parking. Which is silly really.
@@whynotstartusingyourbrain8726 Problem is that Tesla Advisor cannot give a clear answer on when parking distance information will be provided with the sensors removed. It is not my problem of understanding it is a Tesla problem of behaving like an a$$hole. They could have the software ready before removing the hardware. How reasonable does this sound?
@@dmpanis on first glance it sounds reasonable. On second glance however it is worth the wait when your parking is much more convenient with cameras only. Wery often the sensors don't work if you approach a wall from a certain angle. This will never happen with the vision only system. The deal is patience for a much better experience.
My headlights were far too high, but no adjustment unless by Tesla service. However, parked it on an upwards slope, recalibrated headlights, problem solved!!!
I have a 6 week old MY too. I had the same issue with the passenger belt rattling. I had a separate intermittent issue with a window and as such Tesla service engineer came out to realign it. I mentioned the rattle and they resolved it in two ways. It’s actually the belt rattling against the plastic backing of the passenger seat which wraps around the seat by an inch or two that creates the rattle. So they wrapped the belt buckle with felt and suggested I tilt the seat a bit so that it misses the plastic altogether. Totally sorted since.
This is equally helpful and worrying. I am due to pick up my Y within the next two months. I currently drive a Lexus ES which has the best seats imaginable including the seat extenders so your point is a major concern for me. Just watched a RU-vid video on the seatbelt that has flown back and smashed the window glass causing a bill of over £260 which Tesla will not cover. As you say - a lot of money expended and these issues should not be there
I test drove an ES before I bought an S90 - that's a rare car! Also ran an NX on test. As a Lexus owner you'll know as well as I do what odd design ideas and shonky UI looks like. Tesla has none of that - it just works. There are some beautiful bits of design as well as some daft like the seatbelts. I need to stick something soft on the back of the plastic to stop this...
I sold my Volvo XC90 and bought a used Model 3 6 months ago, and I am still sorely missing the Comfortable seats, the Amazing Matrix LED and the truly astonishing Bowers and Wilkins that the 90 had. Teslas are wonderful cars with many unique features, but some of the long standing issues like unreliable auto high beams and crappy auto wipers are taking a bit too long to be rectified. Not good enough for the price they charge people.
When I picked up my MOD Y, there was panel fit and finish problems. This car cost $60,000. However I was told it is within the Tesla Spec. I hate to say it. Delivery and customer service is BAD. After taking my $$$$$$$$check, he just told me the car is outside.
Sometimes all cars have fit and finish issues. It isn't just Tesla, and I have heard "it is within spec sir" as an excuse before! As for the "go find your car approach" I don't mind - it was the same when I collected my Mini
My delivery experience here in Melbourne was completely different. He walked me out to the car, which was easy to find with TESSLA number plates. He spent 45 minutes explaining all sorts of things to my wife and I. Can't complain...
my Audi has speed limit reading and sat-nav knowledge to adjust speed.. does it get it wrong sometimes, especially in europe when there are differing rain limits... but can live with it, though sometimes can be hard. Also the Audi pre-sense can kick on very suddenly and hard if a pedestrian on a narrow pavement is walking and I drive around a bend and the car freaks out... I think this is all standard learnings from such devices.
it seems like Tesla are working to agile.. design what is needed and then let others made the accessories which will then pass the cost to others (including the vehicle buyer).
great thanks a lot. i have the model s 75d at the moment which reads about 200 at 90 percent. i really want the lr model y but for finance reasons may have to order the standard range
Sorry but in 2023, for a car of that price I don't find that acceptable at all. I don't have large panel gaps or odd stepped rubber trim on my 14 year old Jag, the fit and finish inside is perfect, nothing rattles and the real leather seats are extremely comfortable, even for me with my long term back problems. I have no issues with the auto lights and although limited in functionality the voice commands work perfectly every time. I have a well laid out dash with a well thought out combination of touchscreen and physical controls. Frankly I wouldn't expect the problems that you describe on a new Vauxhall Corsa or Nissan Micra, let alone a £55-£60 grand car. I readily admit I'm not an EV fan, I don't think they're the answer to anything except perhaps localised clear air quality to a point, notwithstanding the fact that tyre and brake pollution is said to cause a lot of air quality issues so buying an EV won't get you away from that, and I know this is just my personal taste but think the model Y looks awful inside and out (that big screen stuck on the dashboard just looks like they forgot to fit any controls and had to fit that as a an emergency compromise to me), but it seems to be poorly built, has a cheap sound system, seems to be very plasticky and how long are those fake leather seats going to last? Sorry but I just think they're having you over. My Volvo S60 was 20 years old when I sold it and was better built than that. Thanks anyway, if I was unsure about buying a Tesla I'm not now.
@@justgetatesla Well the model I have is the XF, which is still a current model. From what I have seen of the video of the Tesla I can definitely say the difference in quality is beyond question. I did spend a short time with the Model 3 some years ago and I had similar feelings about that, but I thought over time they might have improved but it doesn't seem so. I'm not a fan anyway, I readily admit that, but I hate the "big screen for a dashboard" look. The current Jaguar XF has a similar, albeit smaller one but it is designed to integrate with the dash much more and still has a digital speedo binnacle and separate climate controls etc. Earlier models incorporated the screens into the dash completely which looks far better. I get it's more difficult with a larger screen but it just doesn't work for me at all. And to use fake leather seats on a car at that price level, any car, is inexcusable in my opinion. I would rather they just used a decent cloth or something. Each to their own of course, I appreciate that buyers must be happy enough with it to buy them. If you're happy with that enjoy, but not for me I'm afraid.
One of the reasons I don't like telsas is having to use a touch screen foe almost everything. I also hate voice command products. My car has it and I've never used it.
The touchscreen issue reminds me of when I weaned myself off a physical phone keyboard and bought my first screen only handset. Felt like a massive step, now it is second nature. It will be the same with cars
@Just Get a Tesla I agree that cars will and are going this way but, trying to use a touchscreen while driving, particularly on a less than perfect road is very hit and miss. It's frustrating and quite unsafe but it's cheap, which trumps all other priorities.
@@Notagain640 when everything is pre-set you almost never have to use the touch screen. And if you want something done, learn some popular voice commands. A world will open for you. Navigation: voice command. Wind screen wipers: voice command. Seat heating: voice command. Looking for an underground parking space?voice command. Etc, etc.
@Ed Dieke I'm not a fan of talking to equipment to control it, which is one of the reasons I haven't bought a tesla. Good thing is there are plenty of alternatives now.
@@Notagain640 Reminds me of Star trek film "The Voyage Home" (1986) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LkqiDu1BQXY.html - before computers could hear.
I think the take away message is they are great cars but Tesla need to up their game. They sell premium price tag cars without the premium build quality or service expected from a premium brand.
@@FlyYouFools88 "They sell premium price tag cars without the premium build quality or service expected from a premium brand." So don't buy a Tesla buy a Volvo XC 40 Recharge?
@@baronsilverbaron757 You sure could, but this dude has a Tesla and this is his own opinion. We are free to try different cars. Being a Tesla owner myself I totally understand the issues he has mentioned in this video. No car is perfect. He has also mentioned numerous times how the Tesla model Y is great so..... 🤷🏼
To enjoy even more bugs, poor efficiency and the same iffy build quality? The VW of 20 years ago who built brilliant things like the Golf Mk4 are sadly long gone.
Then again, I've just remembered that car had a big problem with windows. They used cheap plastic tabs which meant the glass was prone to drop off it's runner and disappear into the door!
Almost did - seriously considered an ES in 2019 before buying a Volvo S90. But as an EV the Lexus is a terrible option. And their GUI is dreadful in general, even if the cars are striking to look at and exquisite to sit in
Expensive, poor range, typical awful Lexus GUI. But it will look amazing and the build quality will be amazing. The problem *all* non-Tesla brand have in the UK is the charging network. Just come off a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and would try to plug in as much as possible. So many networks, so many broken chargers...
