I am all about the straight cable life. I have used the GTX in the last, but linear cables do the trick for me. At 43 I am on get one spin in anyway and luckily for me bar and whip opposite directions.

@@BMXPete Whatever works best for you. 👍 For me a dialed Gyro performs better for braking, and is also never in the way. Easier to focus on the riding. Do you still have the Z-Coaster? I tried a planetary freecoaster and it would often engage at unexpected times, so now I have an Odyssey v2 Clutch and it has not engaged unexpectedly even once. Much happier. But I was thinking of getting a Z-Coaster for my second bike. Do you like it? Is it reliable?

I find it does have a mind of if it’s own. It disengages when I am pumping around the skatepark or dropping in sometimes. If I am going to do a tail tap or a fufanu I like to get a pedal in to know I am engaged. The good thing is you can at least hear when it’s a cassette vs a Freecoaster.

@@BMXPete Thanks, it sounds like the most reliable freecoaster is one with a standard clutch inside, versus relying on engineering hacks to engage/disengage cassette style pawls. The planetary freecoasters also use pawls inside. But all hubs on the market today don't support a 16 tooth cog and 3/8 inch axle for older bikes, so I was hoping the Z-Coaster may have a configuration that works, but for the price it should be flawless. Maybe something custom from a machine shop is the only way to fit an older bike. Milling a custom 16 tooth driver. Keep riding!

The engagement is about a 1/4 pedal stroke. I am using the stock 60 degrees of slack. I am gonna say yeah it’s worth it. Having used other free coasters in the past. Being able to have pedal pressure for some tricks is a real plus for me. On the weight of the thing it’s a bit lighter than most freecoasters. Not too much heavier than a regular profile mini hub.

I should point out mine is 3/8 axle version. The 14mm chromoly axle may weigh a bit more.
