In this episode of The Average Joe Fisherman, it's the day before the Trout Opener in Michigan and I wanted to get out to one of the few streams open all year before the madness of the opener hits.
More importantly, in this video I'm testing new fishing gear while fishing for wild trout with spinners! New Simms waders, a new G Loomis ultra-lite rod, and a LL Bean wading jacket. Are they any good?
The weather on this day was mild with a chance a rain. Not that it really matters when fishing creeks for trout. I am just happy to be out doors doing what I love no matter the conditions.
Fishing for trout in the spring with spinners can be hit or miss. While I do not set the world on fire during this outing, I have enough action to keep me happy and interested.
Now that the Trout Opener is here, I will wait a little while before fishing for Trout in Michigan again. Hopefully it won't take too long for the traffic to die down and I can post another video. Then again, spring time Bass fishing is just around the corner.

I usually fish the Columbia with a 7’ ML but when it’s blown out I fish for the little wilds in the feeder creeks with a 5’6” UL. Let me tell ya, that change takes a few dozen casts to get used to 😅

Indeed it does! 😀 It sure took me a few casts to dial it in. Thanks for watching Scott.

Cool video. I fish a 5'6 St. Croix and I love it. I tear the Brown's up on the East side of the lowered peninsula.

St. Croix makes a good rod. I had one, and loved it, unit I snapped it. Thanks for watching.
