my mom got an iPhone 4s in 2012, and I remember so vividly playing around with it on IOS6 and then IOS7. I actually remember watching WWDC 13 and seeing the announcement of ios 7 and being so excited for the new update, I remember the day the update released to the public (as my mom didnt allow me to install the beta software on her phone) I forced my mom to get the update right away lol good memories.
I was around 20 years old when iOS 7 came out in 2013 but I remember owning a 4S back in 2014 with iOS 7 before I updated to iOS 8 now I have a iPhone 14 with iOS 17.4.1 crazy how far we have come I’m pretty sure my iPhone will support iOS 18 since it’s less than 2 years old.
honestly the second best option for 4s to run iOS 7. but the downside is that you can't downgrade it without dualbooting or shsh blobs unlike iOS 6 and 8 that you can downgrade to it easily, anytime you want. iOS 7 should be the last version compatible with 4s in my opinion
Ah, yes. The A4-5 chipset generation. I now fully understand why these device were slow, and it's not just because of the new effects that came with them. It's also because of the new Retina Display technology that these came with. Because of the higher pixel density that came with devices, It requires quite a bit of graphical power to push that much pixels on the screen. It could explain why there's some slowdown with the iPad 3 (Since it also used an A5, albeit the A5X) even if it has 1GB of RAM. The newer A6 and A7 chips do better, but the A7 gets notoriously hot (which may be because of background processes, but not sure.) Well, all I know is: whenever Apple introduces something new, there's something wrong the first time around (like with the first touch bar mac pro). Thanks for the video Matt! Not a problem! :D I totally agree with ya, the Retina display really requires a lot of horsepower to run, and with the newer graphical effects of iOS 7 and later, it really hindered performance as these devices try to render them smoothly. Very good points!
So yeah i had a 4s running ios 9 and it was too slow. And there is no way to downgrade back to ios 7 but there is a way to downgrade it to ios 6 so i did that and now its hell fast..
You should downgrade your iOS 8 iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and compare it to iOS 7. My first iPhone was an iPhone 4S running iOS 7 that I got in late 2013. I don’t remember how it ran because I was only 5 and didn’t use it much.
