Texas Instrument TI-58/59 Programmable calculator and the PC-100C from 1977 - Erix Collectables #76 

Leuk, mijn oude TI-58 weer eens tegen te komen. Had er flink voor gespaard als 14-jarige, maar het heeft me ongelooflijk veel vreugde gebracht. Magisch!

Excellent calculator! I had the TI-59 and stil have 3 modules. Master Library, Applied Statistics and Business Decisions. My calculator got stolen, but I still have the modules with their books, templates and holders. If anyone is interested just make a decent offer. Best Regards.

I read about it in a book "Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata" he talked about how this calculator helped him to become a videogame programmer . It's good to finally see it

I still have my TI-59 with the thermal printer. Helped mr get through engineering school.

If I remember rightly, (we are talking 43 years ago!!!), only the TI-59 had the card reader. The TI-58 had a set of slip-in cards that simply showed the Function keys for various programmes which you had to type in manually!!!! I used to love playing the HI-LO game. I remember those manuals. Mine were spiral bound.

The calculator you show the magnetic card with is a TI-58, which doesn't have any card reader. The card isn't magnetic either, but just a plastic title card for module programs. The magnetic cards were yellow.

I have both the 58 and 59. My battery packs got corroded and I bought replacement ones in the 90’s. I don’t know if they are available now. I still use them for doing triangle solutions. My 59’s card reader doesn’t work. The card goes through okay, but the display shows an error. My first experience with the 59 was when I was working at a civil engineering company as a draftsman. I talked a guy into buying the 59 to use to make calculations for designing water towers. When he bought it, he let me borrow it and I wrote a program for doing the water tower calculations. The program I wrote just happened to use the entire memory. I liked the buttons on the Hewlett-Packard Calculators, but didn’t like how you had to enter formulas in them.

What a blast from the past! I had a 58C. While it worked, it was brilliant. But after about a year it become hopelessly unreliable. The power switch in particular gave endless problems. A pity because the calculator was very powerful and you could buy plug-in modules (basically, ROM) with programs for statistics etc. which really boosted its capabilities.

As a school boy I managed to save enough to buy a TI 57 in about 1980. I dreamed of getting a 58 or 59.

I purchased a pre-owned ti 58. I was cheated. I contacted the manufacturer for tepair. Mr. Mike Smith had replied.

Hi, I buy this calculator TI 59 Programmable, Model nr.1080ACH, Serie nr. 2366292, in february 1980. The problem is, I have missing the charge cale and also the battery is not working any more. Is it possible that to buy new chalging cable and battery and what will it cost.
