best filter is brass screen and always replace pickup tube o ring and use 2 o rings

Funny! I was just pulling my filter and looked at the spacer that flew out the same way. The pickup tube also gave me a bath. lol Came to see if the filter was supposed to be all floppy and hang down like that. I guess so! Never messed with a TH400 or until I bought this Squarebody.

Yep. The torque converter holds quite a bit of fluid too. Nice job.

and it has a drain plug on it to but u have to remove the dust cover then turn the torque converter till u see the pluge

Did it turn out well I'm doing my 86 cucv 6.2 diesel th400 it's been shifting soft but on time I had dark fluid but very little material on the magnet pan was clean but fluid was getting pretty dark but looked red on the stick

hello man , i have a question , my mechanic did a change of the transmission and gearbox oil using a none well known brand but a brand that has the same specification of my car , without asking me first ; my question is : could i re-do the transmission and gearbox oil with a better oil brand (valvoline) without any risk on the gearbox or the transmission????? thanks

Depending on new pan metal, you can put a magnet on the outside of the pan.

I have thebsame rv, the fluid didn't look all to bad. I'm surprised the converter didn't have a drain plug they usually do. Also did you remove your smog pump? I would like to remove mine. If so do you have a video of that?

@@ClassALiving Thank you. My left manifold leaks a little and after watching the video it maybe one of those pipes. Did you put a gasket in between the manifold and head? I see it didn't have one. Or just some high temp caulk? I wish you had a better way to message because I would like to show you my superchief!

Yeah I forgot, might be able to slip a couple of small neodymium magnets in through the drain plug, I'll have to work on that l8r

You should be able to get a replacement drain plug with a magnet built into it on the tip that way you can clean it when you change fluid.

Thanks! ☺️ FYI apparently the transmission can be unbolted by those two bolts and jacked up to get to that hard to get to bolt on the pan, instead of cutting a hole in the crossmember like I did someone commented

I don't know why they didn't put a drain plug in the trans pan. Wow. what is all that stuff on the magnet and in the pan?? A little wear??? The new pan look great, but why does a guy have to take everything apart before it goes together? I noticed you took out the drain plug, just to put it back in Ha ha. It's a guy thing. Thanks for sharing.
