Shout out to Ying. Her talented photography and good nature may be in the background but are ever present. Her speaking with Jay Fai was an example of why she and Mark are so well thought of around the world. And although she didn't have Micah with her today, you can see how much of a devoted and kind mother she is to him. It can't be easy taking a baby/toddler around the world. Carrying him through streets and alleyways. Most women would never think of doing anything like that. She is a huge part of the success of these RU-vid channels.
Congratulations to Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) who was recently awarded a Michelin Star! Thank you very much for watching, and be sure to follow my Instagram for more food updates: instagram.com/migrationology/
Mark Wiens hello mark lots of love from bangladesh, chittagong hill tracts. I allways wait for your new vedios. Love to see each of them again and again. .
Idk, why she not open restaurant, because if the food is good and expensive why she use street food stall? It's not make sense for me. But great video Mark! I knew you and Ying loves the food! 😁
Jay Vai is well worth the price. When someone puts all their heart, soul n love into their cooking then there is no price too pricey!! Especially when she takes the time to converse and laugh with her customers....NOW THAT'S PRICELESS!! Boy the amount of sea food she puts in her dishes and the price of seafood...no one should be complaining!!! Thank you Mark n Ying for the food vids you make. I'm a new sub n I'm Native American...Im also a foodie. Seafood is something I'm still trying to get more into because we weren't brought up on it. I'm from the Hopi Tribe in Northern AZ and boy when you savor these dishes it makes my mouth water!! 😊😉👌👍❤
Hey Mark, firstly, absolutely love your videos. I showed this video of Jay Fai to my partner, who by the way was drooling whilst watching lol. So we were heading off to Thailand first week in February with family. My partner asked (well actually, NAGGED) me to get a reservation there. Two weeks before week left Australia I made a reservation. Obviously our family did advise us that by Thai standards this place was pretty pricey. So on our second day in Bangkok we head over to Jay Fai. Luckily I booked 2 weeks ahead. First customers in the door....... OMG, on behalf of my partner and I thanks for putting this video up. This would have to have been the BEST crab omelette ever. We headed off to spend the rest of our time with family in our most favourite place in the world Chiangmai, where we pretty much spent our whole time with our nephew and his wife eating. I would love to show you some photos of sensational places we ate at. Thanks for the great work you do. Kaylene
Hey. Thanks for sharing your experience. Can you please tell me how you booked 2 weeks in advance? Did you call or send an email? How does it work? Even I wanna eat there. :(
You can describe any food like that since taste is subjective. Heck you could use the most flowery language for the crappiest food and idiots would still be impressed by it.
Very few people in this world can tolerate that kind of heat coming out from the fire wood flame....... See the hands of the cook, they have endured that heat for years Flame from a LPG cannot match it and does not give the authentic taste... Kudos to the great lady
Mark u are really bless to pave ur way into eating these very scrumptious meals.....an the street food looks so really delicious hope i ketch-up with u Ying an Micah some time early.....love Mattee from in Trinidad in the Carribbean..❤❤🙏🙏
My daughter and I ate there in July. We had the same dishes. They were delicious. However, with all her publicity, the dinner reservations are booked out three months. You can go for late lunch. You have to sign up earlier in the day. And you better be there when they call your number or they go to the next person.
Great video! Those goggles are not for show. They are to protect her eyes from oil splashes and the burning charcoal. One single errant oil splash could take out an eye.
stayed so close to Jay Fai many times but never came across her, but for sure when we get back to the New Siam Riverside in 2022 (with luck) we will go eat what you had today on this video. The omelette looked amazing , does she speak english and does she have a menu
When I went there last year, there were a lot of people sitting outside on plastic benches. A Brazilian couple told me that I should reserve a table by sending an email first. And Jai Fai was fully booked until August 2019 (I went there in June). Another option, I could booked a table by going there early in the morning like the Brazilian couple who went there before 9 a.m. and picked up a number. They went back in the afternoon and sat at the plastic benches provided outside. Unfortunately, it was my last day in Bangkok, so I couldn't try the famous crab omelette.
For all those debating about the prices of this place (and others), ponder this and maybe use it as a guideline... A three course meal at Gordon Ramsay's flagship restaurant on Hospital Rd. London is 130 GBP (around 5000 Baht).
el padrino Exactly! That was my point. This lady's food is way too expensive! 72 USD (58 GBP) for a meal at a 'hole in the wall' eatery?! Almost half the price of a 3 course meal at one of the world's most luxurious restaurants. In fact a set menu lunch at Gordon Ramsay's is only around 60-70 GBP. www.gordonramsayrestaurants.com/restaurant-gordon-ramsay/menus/all-menus/#LunchMenu
In America that meal would have been twice that amount easily! And it wouldn't be Michelin star quality I can guarantee that. I guess folks are so use to such cheap Thai street food they don't look at quality and dedication to the craft anymore. Thank u for showing her mark! Saw her on RU-vid special and it was amazing.
I dunno ... every time Mark Wiens closes his eyes & gives that weird satisfied expression .... it feels like he just found a toilet after a long desperate search and relieved himself from his severe diarrhea attack !!! Lol !!! Just Kidding ... Im your fan, bro !
Those large shrimps are likely farmed fresh water prawns harvested locally. I have read stories of some shrimp farms in Thailand using slave labour. from neighbouring countries like Cambodia and Vietnam.
Hey did you hear yesterday the youtuber angry grandpa passed away due to cancer and pneumonia! Don't forget to pay tribute to Charles Jr green AKA Angry Grandpa! At this time pickleboy AKA kidbehindacamera is very depressed as well because the Lost of his dad
Ate there 2 days ago.Had to wait 2 hours to be seated and another 1 hour until our food arrived.Well worth it.That crab omelette was out of this world. And the drunken noodles totally rocked.Mark you were correct to point out how big those shrimp are, they were mind-blowingly big and delicious.Jay fai was very kind and the staff was great.I see why they were awarded a michelin star.
Daniel Sullivan she's not duping anyone. If foreigners want to pay that money then that's on them. She's not holding a gun to their heads you know. Be reasonable. If you're u think it's too pricey then don't get it. Simple. And I think it's too expensive.
It’s sad when an Asian person knows their worth it’s seen as overpriced...we eat expensive foods like Italian, fine dining all the time but never question the worth...
I think it's because, she positioning her restaurant seems like street food restaurant therefore many people thought the food is like street food quality
In the west we dont question thing like Japanese sushi/wagyu beef or korean bbq/ hanwoo beef for a reason. Their currency is near equal value to ours in the sense that the average meal would cost 10,000 yen/won which is about $10. In countries like thailand or the philippines, you can get good food the price of $1 american. Foreigners and even locals get used to paying little for good food so when a restaurant bumps its price it's hated on. I cant really convey what im trying to say very well but i think you get the point.
@@nikosfilipino Bigger portions, imported sauces and unique craft, thats whats she's selling. Just because she's in a street stall doesn't make her food any less of value. The only problem people have with her price is coming from a comparative point of view with other street food prices.
Dined there in February , the long wait was so worth it . The crab meat omelette was amazing , so much crab of the highest quality , the best . We would do it again . She was so friendly as well . You rock , Jay Fai .
We were there the 24/02/23. To eat at 12.30 you have to queue at 7:30. You order outside while standing some minutes before they let you enter inside. If you take big bottle of water they don't bring you glasses but just a straw( we were 2 people). If you want glasses you have to pay for glasses with ice (no top service if you consider that you pay one omelette almost 30$). The staff is not really nice and friendly. Most of the things are similar to other street food-restaurant in Bangkok and Thailand. For what concerns the food the omelette was good( 7/10 I would take it again for max 15$), the dry Tom-yum was nothing special (6/10, I wouldn't take it again), the sefood Padthai was inadequate (5/10) there are places in Bangkok where they do it much much better for much much less in terms of prices. To conclude, if you were my friend I will suggest you to save your money for other unforgettable experiences:)
If you ask for a glass to drink your water ... on 09.03.2024 they dont even understand it no more... the service is horrible... you have to show a glass on another table... but the prices are x 10 ...
Trevor james is better since he speaks the local language of various countries he visited plus he tries the most exotic Traditional food of that country, rarely that he goes to restaurants but trys all sorts of foods from the locals and thats why Food ranger is superior
Had the enormous pleasure of eating there in October. Long wait but thoroughly worth it. I had the Tom Yum and the Crab Omlette. The flavour in the soup was fabulous and the prawns perfectly cooked. It's almost impossible to describe how good the omlette is. Full of succlent crab and not at all oily. Jay Fai herself never stopped cooking from the moment I arrived until I left. I've no idea where she gets the stamina from.
Quality conscious foodie... great I would love you too have a look at my new Indian exclusive street food ch. Am sure U wud love the quality vids I shoot :-)
A Japanese friend of mine who lives in Bangkok took me here for dinner when I was on holiday earlier this year. I totally agree with you. BEST CRAB OMELETTE - in the world!! Maybe the best omelette in the world. All the food was just spectacular.
Ice Princess I’m sure it was delicious but every single video he makes he pulls the same faces and goes on so much about the dishes etc. He over exaggerates too much! How much was the omelette by the way?
Kiefer Humph over exaggerating when you eat in thailand is like slurping your noodles in japan it’s a way of showing that the food is very delicious and it’s very common in thailand to make noises and faces which he probably picked up in all his years of living in thailand
James Leming quality ingredients equate to quality dishes that aren’t cheap. She and her restaurant are also world renowned now so there’s that. You are not a good person for saying such horrible things.
As a Thai, yes it's expensive but Thai food lovers eat at Jay Fai at this price for decades before you western guys know her from Michelin Star. If you are a food lover you must try it but if not then go get cheap food and not to blame her for the price.
what you said is 100 percent, Jay is a legend, first went there in 1986, prices have gone up sure, she was even wilder when she was young, great party lady.My wife has know her since she was a kid. Real Thai
Illyrus Emperor There are plenty of overrated Michelin restaurants. 50% of the time I find Michelin spots are tourist traps. I just got back from Hong Kong and ate at both Yat Lok and Tim Ho Won. Yat Lok I believe has a Michelin star 4 years in a row. The food was mediocre. We ordered the goose, which was good 7.5/10 for me, and the Cha sui pork. The pork tasted weird and was about to spoil. Tim ho wan was also okay. The BBQ pork buns it's known for are very good, but not so fantastic and life changing everyone says it is. The rest of the dim sum isn't any better then what I can get here in the Bay Area. The stuff you see on RU-vid when you travel is very misleading. We also went to Australian Dairy Co. the line was full of tourist and the service was worse then what I get at McDonald's. The best Michelin spot we ate at the whole time was Mamy waffles ($3 eggettes) Go figure. 😕
Anat Lokaew I guess you are rich. $32 for one crab omelette is crazy. Thai people can't afford to eat there and it seems like she jacks up the prices. Street food should never be expensive considering she isn't using anything you couldn't find from other street vendors. Maybe she knows Western foodies are gullible?
It all seems worth the $72 just because look at the quality of her seafood. That lump crab alone is expensive. That food looked amazing. Those dishes in New York City will be three times the price and probably taste like garbage.
Wendy Woodshed IMO, from a US standpoint then yeah, it's about right. but you have to realize this is Thailand where the income per capita is much lower. 1000 baht for that omelet in Thailand would be like a $20 cup of Starbucks to go with a $12 blueberry muffin here in the states.
Personally, I just wish he would stop doing that "weird foodgasm reaction". I love his videos, he is a great guy with a great personality, but his tilting head closing eyes thing just annoys the crap out of me LOL...I wish he does it in a normal way.. sorry it's just my opinion. 😄😄
Just returned from Thailand. Other countries should hang their heads in shame. The food there is as Mark says "insane and ridiculous." Flavor is everything there. No plain, boring food. Just wonderful, flavorful, light deliciousness.
do you expect him to do gymnastics for a reaction? Lmao that's who he is, he never badmouths food even when it's not good, but well subscribers know when he does not approve of something. Also Jay Fai's food is legendary. If you ever get chance to travel to Bangkok and eat there, you will know.
Not really. For a street food vendor in Thai, that's expensive. Mark is honestly blown away by the omelette, but not with the other dishes. I bet hes not going to come back again. For the omelette? maybe.. but for the soup and noodles? dont think so~
I’m in the US. $72.32 is really normal for two people to spend at a restaurant, but add all that crab and jumbo prawns the bill will easily be over $100. So she’s charging a reasonable price for the ingredients.
McDonald's is so much more expensive than our fresh street food here in Vietnam. We never imagine someone pay 3 times more just to have some chicken sandwiches.
I RU-vidd her cuz of the new Netflix documentary haha of course it didn’t occur to me u woulda tried her food already!!!! It all looks so good too I wish I could eat it too!! 😭😭 good going mark!!!! Also I like how u described it especially mentioning that it isn’t over cooked. I really hate overcooked seafood!!! It just loses the consistency and flavor!! Also thanks for mentioning the prices cuz I’ve read her prices are too much
Just watched the Netflix series too. Very moving and heartfelt story. The world needs more humanity like this. Their stories transcend race, class, etc...
What i like about Mark's food blogs is, he literally show the real meaning of "street foods" it doesn't matter if it not looks fancy or "instagrammable" but the most important thing is he wants to present what food really looks like and how good it is. 👍
Wow I think that amount of crab meat and the giant shrimps were worth the money! Was hoping to see Micah when Ying said hi! Maybe we'll see him on the next video?! Still cannot stop laughing thinking about your slo-mo yummy face! Love it! :D
The aunty was very defensive about the pricing in the video and the restaurant seems quite empty as well. I don’t think people will just bad mouthed a restaurant for no good reasons. I wouldn’t take the risk as mark is videoing everything so maybe the experience will be different.
It’s normally look quite empty for sure because Mark filmed so early in the morning not hurry hours. At lunch hours and evening her store is packed and so much crowded for long waiting line. check this >> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MQb0ulqAsZU.html It’s easy nowaday just typing although one doesn’t know the truth. 😹
Dude, there are many food reviewers on RU-vid but I see in your face that you're actually enjoying this food and not overacting your reaction. You're also the most upbeat dude, its great to watch!
Mark, always appreciate your boundless positivity. Woke up to a chilly morning over here in the states but this video filled me with warmth and energy. Take care.
Mark and Ying i continue to love and enjoy your food 🍴🍝🍤🍗🍖vídeos there get better and better everyday l really admire appreciate and respect you both for the effort you put into giving us all here in subscribers land theses wonderful and exciting videos , hi Micah good morning to you Youre Growing up to be an adorable little boy👍🚶.till the next Video God bless beautiful family bye🎢🎮🍝🍣🍤🍗🍖🍜🍛🍲🍴🍶🍧🍨🍺🍷💙💙
Athea Nicholls Hi I've read ur comments on 'Art and Bri' channel ur comments r so positive full of life can bring smile on everyone's face...God Bless😃❤
If it is cooked right and tastes good, it is up to them. It's important to make sure fresh water shell fish, especially, is cooked through. Unless your GI doc has a gut bomb that can kill liver fluke. Mark is a mart guy and has lived there for years, he knows what is worth the price.
That's the equivalent of about $75 U.S. Not cheap by any means, but reasonable considering the quality and quantity of the ingredients, especially the seafood. Thanks for taking us on your food trips, Mark. Not just for the food but for the insight and appreciation you give each country's culture and people. I feel like I've traveled all these places because of you! You truly are a citizen of the world.
eksine For Thai people most delicious food doesn’t need to belong to 5 stars restaurant with aircon but the street food restaurant that run for 5-10 decades will be the most delicious 😋 🤤 I know Total price is expensive but don’t forget the price is for 2 persons, I don’t think you can finish those dishes alone. Those dishes are actually good for 2-4 persons. Thai people would order those dishes when you hangout with friends or family so you can order many different dishes. For 2 average persons you can order just that 1 dish of crab 🦀 omelette with 2 cups of rice and you will be full enough. Give it a try. (Quality and premium Thai food is always expensive ofc it’s for middle class above) Btw she uses the premium ingredients and seafood. The price is reasonable and you need to book 1-2 days ahead to eat her food in peak time and need to wait for a couple hours for cooking. (In this clip he come early I guess)
We went many times last year and Jay Fai completely worths the price! That is the best food I had in Bangkok. (By the way, the price of any dishes without seafood becomes normal and still incredibly tasty because of the way she cooks above charcoal. ) She is a absolutely great chef.
Oooh boyyyy Mark that burrito crab 🦀... the inside looks fresh no oily at all and the stir fry noodles with shrimp and the soup .... just superb 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
