HIV was, and is, no joke - especially in the 80s and 90s. Thailand did a pretty good job of prevention/education. Since 2012 research shows that people being treated with HIV meds and maintaining an undetectable viral load are not contagious and won't spread HIV. They are not protected from passing on other bugs. I worked as a Social worker in HIV care for almost 20 years.

The XR Ford Falcon at 13:38 was manufactured in 1967 when Australia had an automotive export industry. It would be worth quite a lot here today, possibly even turned into a clone of the Falcon GT which only came in gold and ran the 289 V8. Australia's first muscle car.

I recognize where you are, I parked at that temple the first time I went to the place I use for my yearly extension of stay when they relocated there. It appears I could walk to that burger place you went to from the temple, might be a good excursion for me one of these days soon. Thanks for the burger review.

Enjoyed your story especially when it intersects with my current life here in Chattanooga/ Tennessee news and history. Check out Brushy Mtn prison today, it’s a family tourist attraction now, was out there a year or two back and had a very enjoyable day, beautiful countryside. Keep safe my friend.

Hi Bill, great story about HIV and how contagious it can be. @13.49 i noticed a brown coloured Ford Falcon sedan parked up on the roadside. That car takes me back to 1966 when my Department (Traffic Enforcement) purchased a number of that model Fords as Patrol cars, Black and Whites. I was not issued with one thank God, because, although the engine in them was called a 500 Pursuit Engine, they eventually proved to be unsatisfactory as a Patrol vehicle, not having the acceleration or top speed needed to apprehend offenders. Our earlier vehicles were British 3.3 Litre Vauxhall Velox's which were really get up and go cars in those days, easily capable of speeds in excess of 100MPH. Here in New Zealand at this time we have a Dodge Journey 2.7 litre V6 wagon which is capable of out performing any Patrol cars back then, and much better braking ability with discs on all wheels. This makes me slightly nervous when people tailgate me on local highways at 100kph, LoL. Regards to yourself and Lek. Bob and Lina.

@@UTCM Wow Bill, we were Government cops, our Department rarely kept vehicles too long when the mileage got up a bit certainly not the mileage yours was. My last Patrol car was a brand new Holden 1967, it is still in the NZ Registration system here i saw it in the system. Privately owned, who would've thought?? Our cars were 'Black and Whites', same as in the States, white roof and white front doors with the Government crest thereon. I'm getting old Bill. LoL.

Hey Boss, that price for meds doesn't ring true. Back when HIV was more a big deal the news was that Thailand was appropriating the new USA drugs and reseaerch to treat thousands of poor locals here. I heard the monthly was down to a few hundred bucks or something instead of a price only Magic Johnson could afford. Did you mistake a few zeros? Thanks, Thailand Paul

The fact is, not so long-ago HIV wiped out several families especially in Chiangmai, mainly as STD than contaminated needles, being careful is a good thing especially when tourism is booming.
