A very good movie. Scorsese changed the color palette to distinguish the different color processing in each era. That's why the beginning of the film looked so brilliant in it's hues. Leonardo DiCaprio was in The Gangs of New York (2002) directed by Martin Scorsese. I think that was the first movie Martin worked with Leonardo.

@38:33 ...Stan Lee based the character of Tony Stark largely on Howard Hughes. He even named his father Howard. So yeah, seeing that in this makes tons of sense.

Ohhhh right! I did not connect those dots hahaha. Thanks for pointing that out.

Howard Hughes ended up with over 11 Billion to his name in 1976, when he passed away. In 2023, his company (HHC) still holds a net worth of 9.6 Billion in Total Assets. He was very rich throughout his life!

He could perfectly have won best actor for this performance instead of the Revenant.

Thank you for the upload! I remember seeing this in the theaters with my mom when I was 10. It was the first adult movie I saw not marketed to kids, and needless to say, my first Scorsese movie. I was completely enamored with DiCaprio's performance in this. Unfortunately, Howard Hughes continued to suffer undiagnosed OCD for the remainder of his life.

Thanks for the comment! This would've been a great film to have seen in theatres. I imagine those plane scenes would've been awesome to see on the big screen. Very unfortunate what happened to Howard Hughes.

"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" is a great Scorsese movie, one of my favorites: It released after Mean Streets.

42:42 OCD is absolutely the worst. I don't exactly have OCD but my PTSD lead to me having strange compulsive behaviors. I would constantly wash my hands, I was and still occationally am, afraid to leave my home because my brain tells me, If I do that, something awful will happen. The thing about the compulsory activities is, you sort of can help it. It's not like his body is forcing those sentences out but it's his brain telling him "If you don't do this thing or say this sentence perfectly, the most awful things will happen to you" You get a feeling of dread and you just have to comply with the compulsions, whether it's hand washing, saying a phrase, cleaning or anything else. It's like being held hostage by your mind.

I always loved this movie’s use of color. In fact, the beginning of the movie uses a film stock similar to the time period, and that’s why the color palette changes over the course of the film as the years go by.

Ahh interesting, that makes more sense why it progressively changes over time.

Howard Hughes was the first billionaire in the world 🌎🌍. He became a complete recluse in later years and wound up owning most of Las Vegas in the 1970s .😮

For a change of pace with Scorsese, you might want to watch one of his comedies, such as 'After Hours (1985)'. But this particular movie fascinated me because Hughes, although a total recluse by the time, was still a person who was often in the news when I was growing up, e. g. the Glomar Explorer incident almost 50 years ago; plus it recreates so many real actors I saw in movies on TV--Katherine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Jane Russell, Faith Domurgue (do watch 'This Island Earth (1955)' if you're interested in 1950s sci-fi). My favorite Howard Hughes anecdote is that he was so enamored of the 1968 John Sturges film of Alistair MacLean's novel 'Ice Station Zebra' (which I also watch almost every year or two, it's a great Cold War action flick) that he ordered the Las Vegas TV station he owned to broadcast it almost every night in the early morning hours so that in this pre-VHS, pre-DVD era he could watch it during his insomniac period of unrest.

For another (a bit more fictionalized) look into Cinema History by Scorsese, go for "Hugo".

@@nathansreviews3377 My all time favorite of Marty's is Gangs of New York (Mostly because of Daniel Day-Lewis). But I also love The Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed, Casino, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, Cape Fear (1991), The Age of Innocence, The Aviator, Taxi Driver, Shutter Island, The Irishman aka I Heard You Paint Houses, Mean Streets, Hugo and Bringing out the Dead. Silence I described as one of the most thought provoking movies since Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List.

It’s also one of the most important planes in history. Prior to it’s one flight it was generally accepted that something that large could not get airborne. After it flew that was obviously disproven. The Hercules was the proof of concept for the Jumbo Jet.

Dude sorry but u just tend to ramble on and on and on thru the movie. I dont mean general commentary. I mean u ramble on for 30 seconds at a time, multiple times thru the movie. Sorry its really annoying. Im only leaving the comment so hopefully u take it as constructive criticism to benefit your channel and get more views.
