Re the buddy: oh that totally explains why in dubbed versions of say Kaguya-sama they omit saying people's names sometimes in favour of 1 - saying a pronoun 2 - saying 'man' or something 3 - omitting altogether.

You do realise the Anime is the just a literal name used in Japan to define this medium like China used Donghua term to define this medium and Korea used Hanguk Anei to define this medium while western countries used cartoon term to define this medium. In the end Anime , Donghua, Hanguk Anei, Cartoon or any other all are same just different name based on the region.

Any animation medium can be anything such as Anime/Donghua/Cartoon etc it depend on the area where you live and what term is used there to define this animation medium.

Even cartoon which are aired it Japan are called western anime like SpongeBob which is called in Suponji Bobu in Japan. The Anime term is used to define the animation medium which is created in Japan. Korea has given the name Hanguk Anei to define their cartoon (Animation Medium). China has given the Donghua to define this animation medium and Western Countries used cartoon term to define this animation medium. Different name same animation medium.

@@DomitriCervantes Probably because there wouldn't be any reason. The English Version is the original, and Netflix in English speaking countries speak English so Netflix didn't think anyone would want to watch it in Japanese. While anime, the Japanese version being the original, it only make sense for there to be a Japanese sub option.

@@yagirl2124 Yes. It could have quite easily. Some of the jokes would change, but a lot of stuff could have been kept in..

I’d be interested to see how this series would look if it were animated in Japanese style as well. The art style is definitely not standard for a Japanese anime and would probably stand out right away as being foreign, but if you changed it to a Japanese style, I think it would fit right into the “fantasy-adventure” genre and be accepted as a normal anime. People would be saying “wow, this anime is surprisingly well-dubbed” when watching the English version :P.
