In Episode 369 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with Jeffrey Sachs, a world-renowned economist, bestselling author, and professor at Columbia University, where he was the former director of The Earth Institute. He is also one of the most reputable critics of U.S. foreign policy and the ‘Deep State’, especially as it pertains to the ongoing war in Ukraine and U.S. relations towards Moscow since the end of the Cold War.
Demetri developed an extensive outline for this conversation, the scope of which vastly exceeded the time allotted for it. Dr. Sachs will be coming back on to complete this discussion because it is arguably one of the most important conversations that any policymaker, politician, and media pundit should be having at this moment.
In the first hour of this multi-part conversation, Kofinas asks Jeffrey Sachs about his career in public policy, including his unique experience working directly with the most important foreign policy figures of the late 20th century. These figures include fmr. Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev, U.S. President Bill Clinton, and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. The two have an opportunity to touch on the 'deep state' (or national security state as it's also known), the history of the CIA, including any potential role it may have had in J.F.K.’s assassination, and Jeffrey Sachs’ central critique of U.S. foreign policy, both during the Cold War and after the fall of the U.S.S.R.
Part II of this conversation, which Demetri hopes to release soon, will dig deeper into the deep state and its influence on contemporary U.S. foreign policy. Demetri also hopes to discuss U.S. policy vis-à-vis post-Soviet Russia in the 1990s and the years leading up to both the 2014 and 2022 invasions of Ukraine. American policy toward China, America’s Middle East Policy, Industrial Policy, the continued threat of Terrorism, and the steps Jeffrey Sachs believes that we should take to reform the U.S. government, revitalize our economy, and reformulate our foreign policy will be topics of discussion as well.

Yes, yes, yes! Damn it, how I wish/hope/pray that the few or possibly several nearly indispensable voices as Mr Sachs, Nima and DW site, Colonel's Wilkerson, Macgregor, Chas Freeman, Jacques Baud, Ray McGovern, Martynov, Glenn Dieson, Mr Babich from Russia...let us hear these men talk...NOT the "want to be reporter that is supposed to just ask the questions. I hope the men here spoken of who will give us the efacts will quit appearing on sites that will not let them speak. Damn it, there is maybe 1/25 of sites on internet that can give us facts, news. One thing left unsaid, and which leaves a huge gap in geopolitical history of America is, HOW it became great economically, scientifically, industrially, etc. AFTER WWII? And WHY it became an hostile superpower towards not only the USSR, but to all countries perceived to oppose its unilateral power (despite its original stand for an enlightened Democracy)? ... Thanks to the German persecution, the best brains in the world then, like Einstein, fled to the U.S. and there, created the superiority complex mingled with paranoia. CIA is no different from Mossad and the British intelligence.

Sorry I had to downvote you a bit, for wasting so much time talking about what you would like to talk about next time rather than just getting into it now. You had a great guest on, and I'm sure your next conversation will be better, don't waste time with fluff or teasing your audience with the prospect of a great future discussion when you have him there now and could have proposed MANY more questions in the time you took to explain your intentions for later discussions.

As many people have pointed out, this interview could have benefitted from much more structure and organization. If the interviewer went into it knowing time was limited, there should have been a narrow topic of discussion selected in advance rather than so much musing and meta commentary about how little time there was and how many topics there were to cover. We could have had at least five more minutes from Professor Sachs if we didn’t have to hear from the host about how little time there was. Luckily we got a lot out of Sachs despite these shortcomings, however, I hope that the interviewer will take these criticisms to heart.

I admire the fact that Demitri, the host (first time hearing about him) managed to get such a high quality guest on his show - that no doubt is due to his determination and what not. Unfortunately, that same attitude made him a pretty bad interviewer here. All he needed to due, IMO, was stick to basic, pointed questions and listen. Maybe he wanted to do a great interview, but when you have someone like Jeffrey Sachs on, less is more. If he is indeed well studied (which he seems to be), there's no need to get his 2 cents in. Just listen. A one on one interview with someone like Dr. Sachs is infinitely more valuable than all that book knowledge (which is also important, mind you). Anyway, I try not to be too hard on him - he got a lot of flak in the comments. I applaud him for getting Dr. Sachs on the show, but I hope he takes this as constructive criticism and uses his platform and determination to create better content in the future.

Boy, he really helped Gorbachev and Eltsen to run the country into the ground. And i lived through that help. I should say survived that , just barely.

@@HiddenForces ..Ok understand 🙂 (,,,Though perhaps he's humorous reaction "Oh-noo" shortly after, maybe was a reflection/reaction from dr.Sachs that maybe regardless of who is doing the presidential job perhaps don't have the 'final-say' in foreign policy. ,,Just saying, and based on the angling of the channels name.) ..Hope there can be following parts with professor Sachs. //,,Also hoping we-all(people of Tellus) can all come together to find productive solutions that benefit all layers of the inhabitants of this planet/Tellus. interviewer was incredibly rude. Kept cutting off Sachs with 'we don't have enought time,' and then asking questions that were less questions than they were ten-minute monologues. Completely absurd.
