Dr. Tom you're doing a good job of explaining these nutrient and the need for supplementing. I've seen many of your videos and it seems like there's a consistent effort to update and provide studies for followup. I have no disagreement on D, K2, Mg, and Omega 3. Taking all for several years. You asked about the Plant Paradox and what we think about it? I gained some insight a few years ago from Gundry about Lectins and other plant chemicals that we may want to avoid (or modify the cooking method). I would appreciate a video on Lectins!!

I gave myself a 2+ cm kidney stone and a rogue parathyroid gland, amongst other horrible issues by drinking huge daily spinach smoothies. Vegetarian for years through 50s. Also, now diagnosed with osteopenia. Parathyroidectomy, and still need to deal with the large kidney stone I'm packing. Must watch the toxic super foods....😢 I am learning better choices of veg. And no longer vegetarian!

Hi Dr B. Love your video on supplementing for OP Such a fabulous and comprehesive review! Just wondering if you have an opinion on several calcium and calcium related products: BoneUp from Jarrow (which has Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite) - I've been taking this for a while, AlgaeCal (with or without Strontium Boost), KoAct which you sort of mentioned, and BioSil Bone Collagenizer. Also, on a different but related OP question: since you see a lot a patients with bone issues, have you noticed any pattern with patients on the newer antii- CGRP migraine medicine that have wound or bone healing issues?

I take 5,000 vitaman d every day with K2 and my VITAMIN D, 25-HYDROXY lab level was 53 ng/mL (normal range shows 20 to 79 ng/mL). I'm 59 and had a Dexa scan last year given my mother and grandmother had osteoporosis, and it shows I have osteopenia. I'm curious if you would recommend I try to increase my vitamin d levels or if my level of 53 is sufficient.

My D was so low I was given 50000 IU once a week. Typically it corrects the level in 2 months. I had to take it for 18 months. Finding doctors who want to bother with getting their patients properly supplemented for their specific needs is difficult.

Thank you for your video. I appreciate your information on K2 and vitamin D3’ importance. I am just confused about your recommendation on the calcium carbonate supplement. Dr. Doug Key, a bone specialist and Dr.Berg, a well known chiropractor on You tube both say the worst form of calcium is calcium carbonate!! They say it’s like rock and the body can’t absorb it. What do you say to that?
@DrTomBiernacki
@DrTomBiernacki 5 месяцев назад
Absolutely, like anything there are pros and cons for sure: This is a good way to think about it! Pros of Calcium Carbonate High Calcium Content: Calcium carbonate contains around 40% elemental calcium, which is one of the highest concentrations in calcium supplements. This makes it a good choice for those who need to increase their calcium intake. Cost-Effective: It is generally less expensive compared to other forms of calcium supplements. Widely Available: It's commonly found in over-the-counter products, making it easily accessible. Effectiveness as an Antacid: Beyond being a calcium supplement, calcium carbonate is effective in neutralizing stomach acid, making it a popular antacid. Bone Health: Studies have shown that calcium carbonate, when taken with vitamin D, can improve bone density and reduce the risk of fractures in older individuals. Cons of Calcium Carbonate Absorption Issues: The absorption of calcium carbonate is highly pH-dependent. It requires stomach acid for better absorption, which can be an issue for people on acid reducers or those with lower stomach acidity. Risk of Kidney Stones: Excessive intake of calcium carbonate can increase the risk of developing kidney stones, especially in susceptible individuals. Gastrointestinal Side Effects: Some people may experience constipation or other gastrointestinal issues with calcium carbonate. Interactions with Medications: It can interact with several types of medications, like bisphosphonates and some antibiotics, affecting their absorption. Not Ideal for Elderly with Reduced Stomach Acid: As stomach acid production decreases with age, elderly people may not absorb calcium carbonate efficiently. Studies A study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that calcium carbonate is absorbed equally well in doses of 500 mg or less. This absorption decreases for doses above this amount. Research published in the "American Journal of Therapeutics" highlighted the dependency of calcium carbonate absorption on stomach acidity, underscoring its reduced effectiveness in individuals with reduced stomach acid production. The "Journal of Bone and Mineral Research" published findings indicating the benefits of calcium carbonate for bone health when accompanied by sufficient vitamin D levels.

If I take magnesium, any type of magnesium my breathing becomes difficult. My sinuses become stuffed. Even prescriptions with magnesium used as a filler or binder. I have osteoporosis. So what do I do? Even soaking my feet in a Epsom salts foot bath, within min I can barely breath. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.
@DrTomBiernacki
@DrTomBiernacki 5 месяцев назад
That is more difficult to say, generally I would tell people to start with low doses and test different formulations. Sometimes it might be the other ingredients present. Because we do have magnesium in our body and an allergic reaction would probably be due to a larger component.

Would 400 mcg k2 with 20,000 IU D3 be harmful. My D comes as 5000 IU with 100 mcg K2 and I take four as often as I can think of it. Some times a few days in a row and some times per week or month.

On the advice of my gp (I broke my hip even though my bone density loss is less than 1.5 and instantly .... prolia tx but no unless in my 80s it's a life sentence *age 68. We agreed on: calcium citrate; K2; Vit D to get levels up living n the northern hemisphere. I periodically check in with chronometer just to make sure helpful and recommend ... I don't eat processed foods avoid meat due to ethical concerns but don't think I'm harming the planet eating tinned sardines (seriously you can get really creative and all the vegan list you enumerated a regular part of my diet avoid caffeine and alcohol.) I know you know this but a large part of our overpopulated planet is lactose intolerant I learned a lot from how the Japanese e.g. among many cultures cope. BMI ok but I have problems with proprioception (hammer toes) but working with physiotherapists and steady progress. No I can't jump love horses lol.... not a good idea but am learning to work gradually at resistance training and balance challenging exercises that are helpful. One day at a time. My dog and our walks an inspiration! I did do due diligence; I don't use iodized salt so take the appropriate kelp source and my results are fine. I'm 68 no astonishing results to report but it's all good. I am a low income senior and I can definitely manage. Tx for your continued intelligent very generous information which I truly appreciate. Hope this doesn't turn into War and Peace ... my health affects my dog and my husband passed away ... since the pandemic a lot of people developed involuntary self-created prisons; isolation once it sets in is hard to change. I live in Canada which at one point a model of a working health care system available to all including the most disenfranchised people ... well, like the UK no longer the case. Because I still have a brain lol I did a lot of research re: resources and hoping to help provide info I accumulated. I am a bit of a foodie and now that it's possible I volunteer at a soup kitchen ... and they don't mind my dog who loves everyone and a great asset! Whatever works!! Tx again.

K2 is so important to make sure D3 sends calcium where it does the most good. 100 mcg per 1000 mg or IU of D3 according to researcher Stephanie Senif interview with Dr. Mercola. That would be 1000 mcg per 10,000 D3. The blood test amount of D3 is thought by some to be optimum toward 100.

In this video you say 1 cup of kale has 200mg of calcium. In one photo you show, 1 cup of cooked kale has 179 mg of calcium and in another photo you show, 1 cup of cooked kale has 245mg of calcium. I ask Siri and she shows 94mg of calcium is in 1 cup of cooked kale. That’s quite a big difference. Where should we go for the most reliable nutritional analysis of foods? I’m trying to get more calcium in my diet so I really need accurate information so I don’t get too much calcium. Thanks for all your videos.

Thank you, well I guess the answer of how much kale can fit into a cup can vary 😅

This is a terrible sarcastic reply by the doctor, to a serious question. The viewer is asking a legitimate question to which the doctor replies flippanty. How can we trust him?

I found out doing my DNA test 15 years ago not only I have 677 MTHFR which I’ve been dealing with and fighting for for 15 years. I also have a missing VDR a.k.a. vitamin D receptor. This explains why my vitamin D is always so low.!! I have to supplement all the time back in my teens 20s and 30s. I used to be a sun worshiper so I was fine until I got older and was trying to protect my skin. That’s when things start falling apart.

According to Dr. Mercola, v.D takes 48 hours to form on the surface of the skin and is easily washed off during this time.

And you’re not considering how soy affects thyroid med uptake. Don’t eat soy if you’re on thyroid meds.

Take 10,000 vitamin D3 with 100 vitamin K2!!!
@DrTomBiernacki
@DrTomBiernacki 3 месяца назад
Keep doing it. In winter 10k IU of vitamin D3 is fine, however, as you get outdoors more often you will be exposed to sun rays and your body will produce more vitamin D3 on its own you may decrease the uptake of synthetic vitamin D3 to 5000 IU or less. Thanks for the great response! 😊❤🙏 If possible, we would appreciate a quick and easy rating from you, and a good rating makes a BIG difference for us! g.page/r/CaxJ9b-O6o27EBM/review Thanks again for watching! All the best to you!

Calcium + Vitamin D + K2 is what is needed. This video was repetitive and took too long to get to the point.

Magnesium Oxide is not a low absorb but rather a slow absorb supplement which is even better than glycinate, bcoz your body doesn't need all 500mg instantly.
@hortensemason4073
@hortensemason4073 6 месяцев назад
If the supplements only stay in your system so long before being pooped out, slow absorption would seem to be very relevant.
