I saw a cardiologist yesterday and he asked me, with a wrinkled brow, why I supplement Magnesium. Like, I really needed a good reason to do that... I get the feeling that he didn't approve of any supplementation. And then he actually told me that if he recommends magnesium to his patients, that he tells them to use magnesium oxide - the cheapest, least absorbed version you can take. Of course I didn't say anything, I didn't think he would be appreciative of me asking about it. So I think I'll just keep my supplementation list to myself from now on, no MD I've ever seen knows or cares enough about vitamins, minerals, amino acids or herbs to have a conversation about them.

I was just weak and having heart pain back in 2011, and my Vit D was at 13! I was advised to get more Sun and take 2,000 IUs. Over a few years of me intermittently taking vit D, levels built up to about 25. I could feel when I didn't have enough because I was just lagging. But I still had extreme fatigue complicated by Lyme Disease Encephalopathy, and was found to have Osteoporosis.I started feeling so much better when I was advised by a Naturopath/MD to take 10,000/day and then learned of K2, and after a couple years of 10,000IU D, and only a month of K2 my blood levels are up to 70 D. I feel so much better, incredible! Also I've cut unhealthy carbs and increased protein and finding walking exercise and mild resistence helping to build muscle. At 68yo, grateful to get some of this quality of life and health back!

I had tremendous abdominal pain and angina in January. I did a lot of research and changed my ways. I went on a "clean" diet avoiding fat, sugar, processed food, artificial sugar, and diet drinks. I drink water now and have one beer per week. My doctor put me on a low dose of a statin and low dose blood pressure pill. I am also taking a vitamin K2 plus D3 gummy once per day. In January, I thought I was dying. Today, I feel like the clock has been turned back 20 years. All my blood numbers are normal, the angina went away, and I have had no abdominal pain, which I believe was the result of a fatty liver and too much artificial sweetener. I think the fatty liver is gone. It was the result of diet not alcohol. It took about two months to clear that out. My wife and I walk 2 miles a day. Tomorrow I am going to ride my 27 speed road bike 15 miles. I am 74 and weigh about 160. I should probably weigh 150. I am now expecting and hoping to live to be 90.

I roll my eyes whenever I see the advice to “consult your doctor” regarding supplements, exercise, etc. I went through a dozen GPs & specialists before someone discovered I had a severe, long-term B12 deficiency. And quite frankly the majority had zero concern for a post-menopausal female. The assumption was that “women of my age” are stupid hypochondriacs who simply need to accept our pain and debility. I’m a retired army officer- not terribly compliant with that perspective. I’ve come to rely on docs for emergencies & routine testing only. Otherwise, heal thyself. And I never share my self treatment info.

Good on you for looking after your own health. I went down the same alternative health regimen, years ago. However, I do have a somewhat different approach, to talking about what I do. I DO tell people what I've done. Most don't want to know: they would rather leave their life in the hands of those who don't really care, except for getting their next paycheck, from you. Though, if I can assist just 1 person, then I would feel really good about myself; which I do, regardless (as I may never know if that person actually utlised my information. And that's the point. All that matters is trying to help others, who want it). Which is the same reason these video channels exist.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at the age of 37. At my own insistence, I saw an endocrinologist who tested me and found I was significantly deficient in Vit. D. I was started on 50K weekly (orally) for 12 weeks and my levels went up to "normal". After a few months off supplementation, my level dropped to pretreatment reading. I was again placed on 50K once a week for 12 weeks. My level went up, but post-treatment my level dropped again. Through trial and error, I have discovered that taking 5,000 IU daily keeps my level around 50. However, I also discovered that if I took 10,000 IU daily I felt better. While taking that much my blood level rose to > 100 and my doctor wanted me to back off out of fear of toxicity. Now I wonder if maybe I should listen more to my body.
@MattSamson83
@MattSamson83 Год назад
Listen to your body. I take 10,000 IU of D3 and 360mcg of K2 (MK-7) per day and my labs say I have a "toxic" level of vitamin D. But what is toxicity? The only toxicity is hypercalcemia. So I had my blood calcium and parathyroid hormone levels tested and they came back normal. So yes, listen to your body. But if you're worried, get your blood calcium and parathyroid hormone levels tested to see if you are truly toxic.
@Skinnyheels
@Skinnyheels Год назад
Please listen to your body. My doctor put me on 50000 iu due to deficiency as well. After I took it, I felt super dehydrated. I got odd symptoms & the doctor dismissed it as normal blood test shows everything is fine. One of my friend asked me to drink 3L water. I’m worried about my blood viscosity now. Overdose of d3 can affect your kidney & cardiovascular issue. I’ve been getting pain I suspect are my veins as it’s swelling up. And my lymph nodes seem to swell & hurt. I stopped all supplements because it hurts when I take them now. Only vitamin c & ginger water is helping for now. I’m thinking if I should get k2 now.
@MattSamson83
@MattSamson83 Год назад
@@Skinnyheels are you sure you were taking D3? Normally the version doctors prescribe is D2 in huge bolus doses. Taking 10,000IU of D3 per day, along with at least 180mcg of K2 (MK-7) is totally safe. The only "toxicity" from vitamin D3 is hypercalcemia (high blood calcium). If your blood calcium and parathyroid hormone levels are normal while taking 10,000IU of D3, there is no toxicity.

My wife and I take 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 and 100 mcg K2 Daily. We live in Michigan and it’s hard to get enough vitamin D through from the sun. We also take magnesium I take 300 mg a day broke up into 150 in the morning and 150 in the evening and she takes 150 mg once a day in the evening. 10,000 IU of vitamin D is only 250 mcg. I think they try to confuse people when they switch between milligrams micrograms and international units. I probably get around 400 mg of magnesium, because I also eat almonds and pumpkin seeds and salads every day. If you’re someone that is not currently taking magnesium and want to start just make sure you start out slowly I take a product called Remag magnesium normal serving is a half a teaspoon, and when I first started out, I started out with an eighth of a teaspoon worked up to a quarter and then a half overtime. Magnesium changed my life as far as muscle, pain and muscle soreness and vitamin D3 and K2 really boosted my immune system.

This was very in-depth, it is very important to realize these things work together… I was wondering why vitamin A was not mentioned as one of the players in the bone building process with vitamin D magnesium and vitamin K2. maybe it wasn’t mentioned in the studies, but it is extremely important player in the team. during Covid, I spent about six months taking between five and 15,000 units of Vitamin D3 each day, along with zinc and vitamin C. After about three months, my bones really started to hurt and ache and I didn’t associate it with high vitamin D but this is one of the side effects. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so I don’t think overdosing would’ve really been possible but getting too much can really affect your bones negatively… and zinc should never be taken without its counterpart copper in the right ratio. I don’t see anyone highlighting that fact. One pretty safe and simple way to get the minerals is through ionic trace mineral drops added to your water it’s pretty cheap too. But at the end of the day all of our bodies processes things differently, it’s really hard to tell a whole population what to do and advising testing is a good idea. Not all doctors receive our requests very well when we try to be proactive with our healthcare.… thank you for providing a base of education for the masses :-)

Also, popcorn is a good source of magnesium. A 100-gram (3.5-ounce) serving of air-popped popcorn contains 34.5 milligrams of magnesium, which is about 8% of the recommended daily intake (RDI). The magnesium in popcorn is in a form that is easily absorbed by the body. The most easily absorbed form of magnesium is magnesium glycinate, which is the form of magnesium that is found in popcorn.

Thanks for the video. I take warfarin. I read a study ncbi and it indicated preparation of natto (which I have started consuming in small amounts and I also eat sauerkraut ) but natto I purchase and rinse well and allow to sit in fridge in glass of water for couple of days. The study mentioned double boiling natto as well as rinsing may be a method for those on warfarin. I test my INR frequently and found surprisingly both methods work. (Did not interfere with my blood thinner keeping me in range) The rinse method and allowing natto to sit in water glass is most convenient for me. Can Google pubmed and search for study. Hope this helps some one else trying to avoid calcification of arteries.

@Deb Stay Blessed Warfarin works by blocking the effect of vitamin K1. The general rule is to not change your intake of K1 dur8ng that treatment. But you probably can take vitamin K2 during that treatment. That should prevent calcification of the arteries, which Warfarin otherwise can cause. I'm not a doctor. Especially not your doctor! Unfortunatly, your doctor might not know what K2 is, and the difference between that and K1. There are nowadays other anti-trombosis medications than Warfarin, which doesn't cause calcification of the arteries.

Except K2, I already figured all this out on my own for the purposes of blood pressure control and managing edema in my feet and legs. I (a female) take about 400 mg of magnesium a day, 50 mg of zinc, 4000-8000 IU of vitamin D a day. I have read a lot of research on k2. I probably already got a lot in my diet because my main sources of protein are cheeses and other dairy and fish and chicken in pretty good quantities. But I have nominally supplements my diet with K2 supplements off and on as well (K2 is NOT cheap). I supplement a.lot of other things including a multi-vitamin and ensure I have a good assortment of minerals and herba as well. When I did get COVID (un-poked) it was super mild, less than a.cold for symptoms.) If I do not dose every day, my blood pressure starts to rise steadily. If Intake these every single day, blood pressure and edema stay normal. When I discovered this in 2014, I started doing it to stay off blood pressure meds -- and it works well. I definitely would rather be taking natural vitamins and minerals than dangerous soup drug concoctions!

Wow, one of the best, if not the best YT videos on pulling this all together, Thank you! Daily I have been taking a very good quality (Natto based) K2-MK7 (100-200 mcg), Clinical grade Omega 3 (1000mg), Magnesium Citrate (500mg), and 5000 iu D3 as well as eating fatty fish, and very clean for the past 2 years now, ever since I found I had some slight calcium deposits in 2 coronary arteries, and both adrenal glands. Went back last week for an ultra sound and CT of my abdomen and the adrenal calcification is completely gone! Maybe we're doing some good here!? I'll have a calcium scoring done later this year. The problem with raw vegtables and especially kale is ferments in your gut and causes gas...and found out it contributed to my diverticulitis. I love raw veggies and was eating raw kale salads 3 and 4 times a week. Also spinich and some collard greens are high in oxylates (kidney stones) so make sure to use plenty of kiefer to process the oxylates.
@edennis8578

Also, consuming dairy with oxalates helps to prevent kidney stones because of the natural calcium. I saw a video about it yesterday so I looked it up.

The foods high in K1 are also very high in oxalates. Oxalates prevent the absorption of minerals, and cause kidney stones in some. Oxalates also accumulate in the body and cause various painful conditions such as bladder pain and perhaps fibromyalgia.
@hannah5245
@hannah5245 Год назад
If you eat your fiber as well you don’t have to worry about oxalates. They don’t remain in your system , it passes out (hopefully you don’t have issues with digestion as well) at the end of the day.

@ Linds Birmingham. I have had fibromyalgia for 25 years. It has recently been suggested that fibromyalgia may be a form of PTSD which l tend to agree with. It is also suggested that it is a malfunction of the nervous system which makes sense to me according to the symptoms. My symptoms were very severe and l was determined to get better so l lost 65 pounds, roughly followed the keto diet, but basically eating better and exercising. I also had to do emotional releasing/healing work and it brought up painful and suppressed memories which convinces me fibromyalgia may have PSTD roots. Anyway, before my healing journey l was about a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Now l am a 3 sometimes 4. Flareups still happen, mostly when the weather changes. I did develop a kidney stone l believe was from consuming too much oxalates which l was not aware of. Anyway, eating too much oxalates most likely does not cause fibromyalgia but eating too much oxalates may cause other health issues.

@@SupremeODMG Vit K2 is not a blood thinner. On the contrary, it helps promote blood coagulation or thickening. This allows our bodies to avoid excessive bleeding and bruising when sustaining an injury. If a person is on blood thinning medications, they have to be careful with vit K1 though. So you need to investigate further. Edit: I just found some info that the only blood thinning medication where you can not take vit K1 or K2 in food form or supplemental is when taking Warfarin also known as Coumadin. But there are other blood thinning meds available which don't interfere with these vitamins

@@SupremeODMG You are correct. Nato, sauerkraut, pickled cucumber in brine, all contain a natural Vit K2. Providing you consume a requered amount, you then don't need to use the supplemental form. I actually do both. As far as I know vit K2 is non toxic and we need some 360 micrograms per day
