When they drafted Jimmy G n 2014 Bill did want to replace Him .Brady had a down Stat year n 2013 Aaron Hernandez they lost ,Gronk was Hurt ,They went 12-4 lost n the AFC Championship Game .Brady won His 4th Super Bowl when they drafted Jimmy G n 2014 and His 5th n 2016 season .Bill did not thank Brady would play that great at 40 and wanted Brady to retire after 2017 or Cut Him .Brady had Jimmy Traded won MVP went to the Super Bowl Lost cause of Bill .Won 1 More Super Bowl n 2018-19 Season and 12-4 record with that terrible 2019-20 team .Brady wins the Super Bowl first year with out Bill was a Defining Moment at 43 years old Bill could have put weapons around Him and signed Him 2 year deal .

The Bucs took Bradys Pay Cut and Added Gronk ,AB ,Fornett ,The FG Kicker with the team and kept the team .The salary cap is going to go up any way with deal coming so with Bradys pay cut they will b fine .

What an ignorant idiot. The Patriots never ever drafted Brady's replacement. They used late draft picks on backup QBs because they knew they didn't need a veteran backup behind Brady. It's waaaaaaay cheaper to pay a late-round rookies than to pay any veteran QB. It was merely a salary saving tactic.

I'd happily take the risk Brady goes down and they lose the entire season over missing out on premium talent. Heck stacking the Offensive line to keep Brady healthy and give the play time to develop is smarter.

@@Mark_Cook Julian Edelman at one point mentioned how stingy Bill is with contracts - having to fight for money. Which is much better than overpaying for declining talent, so yes. It's possible he isn't paying backups and just letting them walk so he can replace them with another no-name rookie contract.

NE had good teams for 20 years because of BB drafting and trading, plus TB12. Everyone complains that Justin Fields would be great if he was surrounded by good players...so, does that mean that the only reason TB12 had a great record was due to BB's drafting and trading?

Green Bay drafted lots of QBs with Favre and Rodgers. You can develop them and potentially trade them for a higher draft pick than where originally drafted (Hasselbeck). Also, Favre/Rodgers could prematurely retire, hold out, or get injured.

So funny story about the QB Curtis Painter. My wife and I got married a few years back, and while planning the wedding, this man walks in who was in charge of the bar and the dj for the venue. For whatever reason i was absolutely certain I've seen this man somewhere.... We get done and what not. But it bugged me that I couldn't place a name to the face. Something happened in which I was googling colts back ups and then it hit me "OMG OUR WEDDING GUY IS CURTIS PAINTER" We laughed about it, and absolutely did not bring this up to him , but I was tempted to say "thank you so much for your service, without you, we would not have had luck." Sorry for the long comment, but I always find it funny that curtis Painter was our wedding planner dude. Great guy!

That season after the almost perfect season was absolutely insane,yet entertaining. It was a rollercoaster season where Brady was lost for the year,for the only time in his career losing significant time! After the narrow miss of a PERFECT SEASON, everyone was ready to right that wrong or at least go for another ring....then in game one, we lose TB12, and turn to Matt Cassel, who had never attempted a pass in college .....everyone was gut punched, but the team scrapped and Belichick made Cassel look alot better than he was, getting him paid by K.C after we had an 11-5 season,which was amazing all things considered.....but another absolute kick in the balls,as we missed the postseason! Can ANYONE remember another season where an 11-5 team MISSED THE PLAYOFFS?! Insane!

Backup QBs aren't wasted picks. They play a role during practice, training camp, and even gameday. You need them, and rookies are cheaper than veterans. Drafting a new backup few years is just good business. The fact that so many of those guys ended up being coaches should tell you why the Patriots wanted them around.

Jimmy was without a doubt one of Bill's best draft picks and I wouldn't call it a waste. Tom was in decline, and when Bill drafted Jimmy in the second round in 2014 that was the first time Brady probably ever felt threatened by the backup (especially given Bill's commentary about the pick bringing up Brady's "age and contract situation"). It's no coincidence that Brady went from decline to playing some of the best football of his entire career starting in 2014. Jimmy may have only played a game and a half of meaningful football for the patriots, but that pick motivated Brady and that motivated Brady won three more rings. Meanwhile the packers try to do the same thing to rodgers but instead he just starts crying, requests a trade, and threatens to retire. Not everyone is as competitive as Tom, that's for sure.

So BB was trying to replace Brady on the down low with his mid round QB picks early on in Brady's career. Then in 2014, BB basically admitted to Brady and the world, he wanted to replace him by drafting Jimmy G in the 2nd round. That's fucked up man. Imagine how many receiving weapons or defensive stars he could have picked up instead of wasting so many picks on backup QBs.

The New Jersey Devils did this when they had Martin Brodeur who played 23 seasons with New Jersey (1991-2014), before playing his final season with St. Louis . It has not been until now with MacKenzie Blackwood, that seems as though they found "their guy".

These weren’t wasted picks. They drafted late-round QB’s that sat and watched Brady for a few years, played a few games, and the Patriots got better picks from them. So they used a 6th round pick on a backup and they would get a second, third, or even a first round draft pick from it.

Colts replaced Manning for Luck after Manning injury. It costed them a full season. I do not like tanking. It is the worst thing you could do to your fans. NE drafted QB cause nobody expected Brady playing till now. This was unknown when they drafted JG or Brisset. Now it has changed when rules were more friendly for QBs. Also Brady had always a good protection. So I cannot agree. Everyone expected that father time will defeat Brady but till now Brady still is on top.

Drafting for backups is fine. The cost for Fitzpatrick would have been crazy and at the time he was still a Andy dalton level. Starter or backup thing.

Does perms have no idea about backup quarterbacks? Tom Brady was injured for a full season one year and drafting backups are typically cheaper and better than picking one up in free agency

@@skyblaze1134 A number of them went on to have respectable careers in their own right. Nothing compared to Tom Brady but respectable non the less. If anything their tutelage in New England before moving on to other franchises only benefited them.

@@skyblaze1134 10 Qb only three ended up being talented (Cassel, Jimmy G, and to a lesser extent Brissett). It is hard to get a starting QB kn the draft. 1 in 18 develop into quality nfl QB. So he was taking them with intentions. If they developed and turned out good he could deal for better picks he could use on top flight talent. Or in Jimmy and jacobus case it was to see of he found a replacement to tom.

In 2022 week 6, four of Belichick's later round QB picks started games. Brady, Brissett, Jimmy G and Zappe. Over 12% of the NFL starting QBs were BB picks. While 50% of the first round draft QB picks are busts, many of BB's later round QB have long NFL careers. Belechick has the golden touch when he drafts later round QBs.
