Seriously, the great thing about the sport is the personality and the uniqueness of ones style, having that shitty ass reebok look dulls everything down.
@Ortum Lynx the contestants can choose between a country kit or a basic kit but I still miss the pre UFC 189 days to where the shorts could look unique
@Ortum Lynx if the UFC was smart they'd capitalize on signature trunks. Imagine if Chuck Liddell's signature gear was sold & marketed like a NBA players signature shoe.
It also stopped people from wearing mma gear in public. Beforw the rebok gear people wore tapout shit all the time. It may have been ugly but it was probs a net positive for fighters.
@@Ashley0491 my god that's something he missed off MMA fan fashion. I'm from the UK and thankfully didn't wear the stuff but the crowds at the fights were a real sight 🤣🤣 I think they only came in 2 sizes XL or Roided out your fucking mind.
bebop rocksteady 😅 I remember being in high school and just about all the guys had something tapout, ultimate fighter etc. not to mention the energy drinks😂 good old days when Rogan had hair and Dana held back in interviews!
not that i dont think former fighters would be better options, but wouldnt they still have to stick to the same problematic rule set as current judges?
Here's my proposal for MMA judging: 1. Increase the number of judges from 3 to 5. (More judges = lessens the effect of an incompetent judge). 2. Judge the fight in its entirety. 3. Institute a Yellow/Orange/Red Card system for fouls. 4. Have 3 judges cage-side, and 2 judges watching on TV without the commentary.
judging a fight in its entirety is a BAD idea. scores should be written down and logged between rounds, so a judge cant go back and change their minds at the end of the fight. its the 10 point must system that has to go.
Same. To me, a Jones or a Silva or Pierre with dozens of title defenses is more legendary and hard than winning 2 belts and getting a fast track instant shot at another weight class. It’s cool and all, don’t get me wrong. But it’s annoying why and how UFC lets it fuck up divisions
Money fights are the ultimate disgrace of this sport. When competition is second place for money, it's no longer a sport, it's pure entretainment. The biggest problem is that MMA is still a business, not a consolidated sport. If we had a worldwide federation that cared only about rankings and matchmaking, THEN we could have a real sport and real competition. But while Dana White is concerned about making money, competition will always, ALWAYS be left aside. So basically it doesn't matter much if you chase wins and skill, being a trash talker gets you further. Just look at how much time Khabib spent in the undercard ONLY WINNING. Took him years to get a title shot. Ferguson and Khabib fighting on the same card and don't facing each other because of money fights it's just absurd.
Phædron the this I see about putting money so high for the UFC right now is that you need money and market dominance to eventually be able to lobby legislation and ultimately self governance of the sport. Right now MMA is judged by boxing judges and legislated by state fighting commissions. Hopefully it could become big enough financially where it could run itself like the NBA, MLB, and NFL.
In fairness though there is a reason a fight is a "money fight", like it or not it's because it's a fight more people want to see, complaining about money fights is kinda complaining about being given the fights most people want to see
I can't imagine how much work and dedication you guys must put in to make these videos. Super informative, really well edited, copyrights covered and the like. Thanks MMA on Point. Keep up the great work.
"In the NFL, a touchdown is a touchdown. It has clearly defined parameters, as do all their rules." Allow me to tell you about this thing in the NFL called a pass interference.
@@Blank-km4qr its more the " show your allegiance bit" and tho unionists rightly point out that NI is politically divided from ROI its not geographically divided from it and its odd for it to be taken from maps
Definitely have to disagree with #3, weirdly the pandemic has given more so many great cards and lineups especially on fight island. Being the only sport to be running at a point and the UFC capitalizing on that fact, despite the difficulties and problems like not having Khabib vs Tony, it was actually a great time for the sport and promotion.
one championship was actually the third most watched sports event globally last year, it just hasn't broken the western market yet, only the nba and nfl beat it
ONE has better fights and better fighters than Bellator but just hasn’t reached our viewership yet. I feel like with Rich Franklin and Meisha Tate working in the front office and constant recruiting of guys like Alvarez, Northcutt and DJ, we will start seeing more of ONE over this way soon
A loss in a different sport. Should Askren have been dropped in rankings when he lost to Jordan Buros in a wresrling comp? What about fighters who enters jiu jitsu tournaments is that supposed to effect their mma standings as well?
Reebok deal really showcased the ufc's greed. Would be great to see bellator become more of a competitor to ufc and force the ufc to look after all of their fighters better, not just the top guys
The Reebok thing was the worst. I remember when they announced the ridiculous Power Rangers uniforms, and Dana was raving about how great they looked. I wonder if inside he was biting his tongue. The sheer incompetence of Reebok AND the UFC though, was that they didn't correct course over the years.
Hopefully one day everything under mma will be unified and corrected. Meaning one commission made up of people who actually know the sport, and one set of unified rules. Idk if that would solve major problems but it could possibly help 🤷🏻♂️
Dana White will go down as one of the most iconic figures in sporting history for what he's doing with the UFC. Things can only get better and more fine tuned from here
Hey it's Rasta Shane from FightTips at 2:22. 😂 Him and his team taught me so much about MMA. I got his hybrid gloves and hand wraps. I've been training MMA in my homemade gym in my garage during quarantine. I go a couple rounds on the heavy bag. Love his work and the Muay Thai Guy Sean Fagan. Learned so much from these guys! 🙏🏾💪🏾
When i heard venom was gonna be working with the ufc in a brand deal i cringed so hard thinking it was venom the energy drink company not venum the mma fight appearal company thank goodness.
@@SuperPeterok Yeah bro i know it sounds dumb but i thought it was like a "We are dropping our monster sponsorship as well as the rebook one for venom" i was dumb founded especially because the venom energy drink label looks a bit similar it's a snake made out of the v and the m
Money fights ruined Boxing with WBC making a shit ton of one off titles solely for a Money Fight. In turn killing the Legitimacy of the WBC World Titles.
Brendan Shaub. The guy is an embarassing representative of the sport. He has the vibe of a dumb jock rather than the vibe of a trained disciplined fighter.
Tbf MMA is a growing sport, football (soccer) for example needed almost 100 years to introduce off-sides and substitutions, which is a huge part of the sport right now. Same goes for basketball and three point-line, took more than half a cenury to implement it.
@@panagiotisk.8699 Exactly... For this reason I find more interesting OneChampionship, besides the fact that it's free on YT, it's actually professional
The politics of MMA have no doubt been affected too much by individual personalities. Needs more oversight...a bureaucracy and national authority like other sports. And hypokalemia/dehydration associated with weight cutting significantly enhances the long term effects of trauma to the brain
Money fights are some of the biggest disappointments and alot of the time screw up the hierarchy in quality of fighters, it's notoriety over true skill.
Only good thing about the Reebok deal is the professionalism of the UFC and how much cleaner it looks. But the character of the fighters has defo gone. It’s very hard to distinguish the fighters early on the card.
Reebok got the blame because the person who is actually to blame is the guy who can pick and choose which fighters make it and who doesn't. Dana White has never made an effort to hide his blatantly obvious hatred for his fighters making any money that he doesn't have the ability to control. He doesn't want any of those lesser known or lower card fighters to be able to get anywhere without having to beg him for it
"The committees are unchecked" unless, like you said, you take them to court... so they are checked then... and you gave examples on when and how they have been checked when they over step the mark. Big brain moment
1. Rounds 2. Time limits 3. Judges 4. Fighters being excluded from the Ali Act IMO these are the 4 worst things for the fighters. Probably the 4 best things for the growth of the mma business though.
Outside of MMA news and fighter interview casts, MMA On Point is the go to channel for amazing content (man I hate that word...'content' urgh). Seriously, kinda wish there was a better way to thank you outside of comments. Luke and Brian went fulltime viacom/cbs. Keep chipping away boys and I reckon you could go corporate as well (i.e. quality quality quality).
