Time to quote David lane, or is the RV salesman not having any of it?

As a camper sale person who was also sales, finance and what have you I did everything. The place I worked at was so much more relaxed. No pushy sales. I sold 356 campers in 4 years. I do agree with some of this but not all places are like Camping World. I live the Black Hills of South Dakota. Customers who come in like that are pricks at first until u know everything about the camper they want. And then since I am a cool dude I am able to turn that customer who had his arms crossed with the scowl bc everyone thinks is a sleazy salesman. I never lied to a customer. To customer and have actually talked people out of buying campers. something more than I wanted. Not all places are the same way. Don’t come in acting like an dick or that won’t help. I was a super salesman and never asked once if “All terms are agreeable will u buy this today” I changed a lot of peoples attitudes when they come in arms crossed thinks I’m just another sales man. Until I go show them a Jayco Seismic and I know there is over 4600 parts in one of those and can tell you everything option or good things that stand out to women customers as well. Being able to reach the cupboards. Jayco’w I believer are the best campers around but that’s just my year warranty, good year tires with 5 year warranty, plywood roof (really helps in hail country, I would go on. with ,I sold Jayco, Keystone and Forest River. He did say not all salesman are bad but it’s a 14 minute video about sales people. We are trying to make a living also. Videos like this give people ideas and they try to use This advice and not every dealership is the same. I have walked away from people who were dicks and pulled a few deals when folks are being dumb. May I should make a video of how not to be a “sleazy” sales people. U are giving people wrong ideas about camping dealerships. Not everyone works the Camping World Model ( They suck $)

As a RV Sales Rep I disagree with a lot of your points. When i meet a new customer I know absolute zero about their needs/wants and withholding information does a huge disservice to all parties. Yes I have a obligation to the company I represent to make viable deals, but i also have a obligation with my customers to do everything i can to find the right unit for that particular client. I get paid to make Win/Win deals, anyone can do a Win/Lose deal. If your not comfortable with a Sales Rep your currently working with leave.
@davidhannan2023

I like your final answer to the situation. So many times we keep working with the sales person we don’t trust so we don’t give more information, don’t show our full cards upfront. But if that’s the case you don’t want to invest possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars with somebody you don’t trust in the first place so go find a different sales person or a different dealership.

Hey Dave, thanks for the great tips. Since they can make more money if you finance with them, thereby allowing them to give you a lower sale price, wouldn't it be a good strategy to go for financing with them, then once the deal is done, pay off the entire thing (as long as there are no penalties for this, of course).
@TheRVDummy
@TheRVDummy 2 года назад
Do you really think people get a better price if they finance? Not so sure. ;)
@davidkaberi9266
@davidkaberi9266 2 года назад
I work for an RV dealership. This guy is partly clueless, I’m sorry lol. Yes, that’s an amazing idea. We make some money up on the financing side, literally allowing us to give you a better deal rather than you paying cash or doing outside finance. No penalties to pay off early. However, the rv dealership doesn’t get the extra money from financing if you pay it off so soon. So in reality, you win both ways in the end.

Auto Salesmen the same. We went to Ford and they wanted $3,00 down and our F-250 Crew-cab 4X4. They offered 3.99% financing for 72 months @ $697 a month. Went to KIA and they wanted Zero Down, No Trade In with 0% Financing. $573 a month for 75 months. KIA even showed us our credit score was 753.

Kia is an amazing company we have had a kia rio since 2011 we service it on time. And nothing has ever broken on it yet. (Knock on wood) the sales men are super low pressure. My husband works around the world and when he was in Korea the Korea team took them to the factory. We have a kia my sons have kia's they are like the Toyota of the 2000. I had the same experience with Ford they are to proud. We ended up buying a RAM 2500 heavy-duty diesel.
@richardspearsii286
@richardspearsii286 3 года назад
What type of vehicle made by kia is equal to a f250 as far as towing/hauling?
@enerzise3161
@enerzise3161 3 года назад
@@richardspearsii286 The Ford F-250 are into the Commercial Tow vehicle size, so it would be more proper to compare the Ford F-150 to the KIA Teluride. The KIA Teluride has a 5,000 pound tow capacity and the F-150 starts out at a 5,000 pound tow capacity. Ford F-150 MSRP: $29,290 MPG: 20 city / 24 highway Horsepower: 290 hp @ 6,500 rpm Towing capacity: 5,000 lbs Engine: 3.3 L V6 Curb weight: 4,021 lbs Transmission: 10-speed automatic Seating Capacity 2-3 Ford F-150 4 Door Crew Cab MSRP: $37,000 MPG: 20 city / 24 highway Horsepower: 290 hp @ 6,500 rpm Towing capacity: 5,100 lbs Engine: 3.3 L V6 Curb weight: 4,465 lbs Transmission: 10-speed automatic Seating Capacity 4-6 Ford F-150 Crew Cab Long Bed MSRP: $38,305 MPG: 20 city / 26 highway Horsepower: 325 hp @ 5,000 rpm Towing capacity: 7,800 lbs Engine: 2.7 L V6 Curb weight: 4,616 lbs Transmission: 10-speed automatic Seating Capacity 4-6 KIA Teluride LX MSRP: From $32,790 Towing capacity: 5,000 lbs MPG: Up to 20 city / 26 highway Horsepower: 291 hp Tire size: P245/60R18 Seating capacity: 7 - 8 KIA Teluride All Wheel Drive Model: 2022 Kia Telluride Loaded with Features MSRP: $34,790 MPG: 19 city / 24 highway Horsepower: 291 hp @ 6,000 rpm Towing capacity: 5,000 lbs Engine: 3.8 L V6 Curb weight: 4,255 lbs Transmission: 8-speed automatic Seating Capacity 7-8 KIA Teluride All Wheel Drive EX Fully Loaded Features MSRP: $39,790 MPG: 19 city / 24 highway Horsepower: 291 hp @ 6,000 rpm Towing capacity: 5,000 lbs Engine: 3.8 L V6 Curb weight: 4,255 lbs Transmission: 8-speed automatic Seating Capacity 7-8 Now these tow ratings may be based on what you get from the dealer. KIA says our Sportage has a tow rating of 1,800 pounds, but that is if it comes fomr the dealer with the tow package KIA installs at the factory. We read the manual and it says 4,000 pounds, so we searched for a tow package that offers 4,500 pounds and we installed it ourselves. The Teluride may have an 8,000 pound rating if someone buys one without the tow package and installs one after market like we did. I would suggest reading the manual of any vehicle you are interested in buying. We already have trucks and vans: Ford F-250 4X4 Crew Cab 5.4L V8 Ford F-250 Crew Cab V10 Chevrolet 1500 Regular Cab V6 Chevrolet 1500 Conversion Van V6 We had a KIA Soul, but wanted an All Wheel Drive SUV Ford was offering a Ford Ranger 4X4 with almost $700 a month payments at 3.99%, plus Ford wanted one of our F-250 trucks as trade in and $3,500 down payment. KIA offered us a SPORTAGE EX All Wheel Drive for $573 a month at zero %, no money down and no trade in and all oil changes and tire rotations every 7,000 miles up to 120,000 miles included. So we pay $127 a month less and pay for no oil changes or tire rotations as we had all of them added to our financing at time of vehicle purchase. Some of our KIA Sportage EX Features: Heated Mirrors Heated Seats Heated Steering Wheel Front Collision Detection Front Pedestrian Detection 28 Degree Front Down Angle Detection Rear Camera Rear Fast Approaching Vehicle Warning Rear Side Object/Vehicle Detection Side Lane Object/Vehicle Detection Side Vehicle Blind Spot Warning Side Mirrors LED Light Flashing Warning Lane Keep Assist Driver Hand Grip Detection Warning (If it does not detect drivers grip) All Wheel Drive with Differential Lock Automatic w/Partial Manual Shift mode Sport / Comfort / Eco Modes Three Zone Air Temperature Control Rear AC / Heat vents Under Seat AC Heat vents We were backing up once out of a parking space and someone walked along side the car and it warned us there was something on the drivers side of the vehicle. Another time someone pulled in front of us and slammed on their breaks because the light changed red and the Sportage set off a warning and the Sportage was already stopping before I could get my foot on the break. As I put my foot on the break pedal to stop the vehicle, the Sportage released the break control to me. The Sportage does not take full control, it just preemptively acts and when you get caught up to take control it releases to the drive. If it does not detect my grip while Lane Keep Assist is on, it will warn me it does not feel my grip and if I do not take the wheel in 10 seconds it will count down and turn off Lane Keep Assist. This way the driver never thinks they can expect the car to drive it;s self and they can sleep or ignore the road for very long. Now I am quite sure Ford has these features in high end trucks as most all other manufacturers do. I just wanted to state features I know come on some KIA vehicles and the Teluride should have them if it is an EX Model. I would also like to add as of 2019 the KIA Sorento V6 EX, SX and S offer up to that 5,000-pound maximum towing capacity when equipped with Kia's Dynamax™ All-Wheel Drive (AWD), otherwise the other Sorento vehicles offer a 3,500 pound tow capacity. The KIA Carnival says 3,500 pound tow capacity, but again I say to look at the manuals as KIA website says 1,800 pounds for the KIA Sportage, but the 2021 KIA Sportage EX AWD manual says, Max 4,000 pound tow capacity. I would suspect the Ford Manuals give specific to the vehicle also and would differ from the Ford Website. Also we are very happy with our F-250 trucks. If KIA sold a K-150 or K-250 crew cab truck we would trade in one of our Fords for one. Sorry I wrote a small book. Hope any of this is useful to you. We live in Florida.

You've explained elsewhere how salesmen are trained to get you to say these 14 things. You and "Josh" should do a demonstration of how to respond in the proper way while "never-say"-ing those 14 terms. Example - Salesman: "Is this going to be a cash deal or are you looking to finance?" Me: [can't say "not sure", can't say "cash", can't say "finance"] ????? So, what DO I say?
@elizabethport4816
@elizabethport4816 3 года назад
My reply would be something like "Well, we're not at that point in the discussion yet. We need to first settle on the details of the deal for what I want before that question even comes into play." If they resist, just say that's how you do business, Always. Details First, method of payment LAST. If they still have a fit, just thank them for their time and head out. Let them chase you.

Well, thank you very much for that opinion. I was actually going to pick 16 at first but because of the reciprocity along the lines of the incubation period let me know I have worked so we went a little bit lower, I think anything less than that would not have been very effective and we have mitigated the situation entirely based on my knowledge from prior experiences. Now having said that, the manufacturers are all a bit arms because of the situation at hand and I don’t think that’s a good thing so we need to fight back and take a stand one way or the other, don’t you think?

Credit 100% plays into the deal. A 650 thinking he’s a big shot spending 4 hours looking for RV’s and wants to buy a $100,000 RV with $3k down and a 650 credit score because he’s uneducated. Telling your salesmen important information will save you time and help you get landed on the right RV for your budget. Giving the most information will give the professional all the info he needs to find you the perfect RV.

Buying an RV is an "emotional rather than financial decision". It's not an investment, rather it's satisfies the desire to have a different experience from a traditional vacation, in my opinion. And, it will not save you any money generally. My advice is to buy what you can afford for cash, the interest rate on an RV will certainly be more than any automobile and the rate of depreciation is extremely high. People who finance an RV for more than 10 years will likely find themselves "upside down" on the balance owed in 5 years, it happens that fast. Extended warranties are a gamble and in many cases it's better to skip them and set aside some money for repairs, maintenance and upgrades.... they don't sell these extended warranty plans for nothing. If you can find a good used unit and get an inspection before you purchase it, that's a better way to go. Always be suspect when someone has only had it for a year or less. Condition is everything on any used vehicle, car or RV, and if the seller can provide you with records and documentation for maintenance and repairs, this is excellent. Good luck, have patience, and be sure to test drive the vehicle. Never purchase a vehicle sight unseen.
