I like your videos. I’m a huge fan of the older Volvo’s. I currently have a 98 S90, an 03 C70, and a 96 850. I just got the 850 and it handles and rides like a dream.

I think I'd have to agree this is not a work truck. I'd look for a base S70 for your friend. Heck of lot cheaper. 150k for like 1000$ This R type is someone's long term project car. Hell I'd trade ya a done s70 for it. But I'm like you id enjoy bringing back this gem. I get it... But long term for your friend. S70 base. You're a good man Robert.

It's a very nice car. Too many miles on it and the work it needs in parts is more than the car is worth. For the car to be sound for 3-4 years would have to be sure the engine and transmission.. powertrain is going to last.

Anybody looking for an R is not looking for a reasonable daily. Sure you could get a cheap Toyota and be fine, but if you after this car, you don't care what it needs.

It comes a point when the car doesn't have the book value. Unless you can afford to loose several thousand dollars off the bat then would not buy the car. Sentimental value and real value is two different things.

@@RobertDIY could you recommend an OBD2 reader that i can plug into my 850R pls.. because I've tried over 50 garages and they all say we only use 2001+ obd readers.. even genuine Volvo dealers don't use them anymore lol they've thrown them away .. i phoned this one Volvo dealer by me and the cheeky shitbag said any car older than 2001 should be scrapped lol.. pls help :(

Interesting 98 V70 R has Dolby speakers and one in the center of the dash. Guess yours doesn't have that option...?

@@RobertDIY it blew the heaffasket probly before i bought it. They probley redid the head then used some kind of seal that clogged up the gaskett. As i am basically using you as my instructor. The valves are probly stuck the pistons need replace. You incouraged me to keep and rebuild my Volvo parts around here are scares or overpriced. I need tools. If i cant fix this one i wont have a car.

@@RobertDIY yeah my 98 s70 i had to give alot of love to. The AWD p80s cost alot more on rear brakes and suspension too. There was a beautiful 98 saffron v70r up here in canada i avoided for the same reason as you preach. the list outweighed what i could part it out for haha
