Hey guys! In this video, I talk about the 2.2 dilemma, which is a term that I like to use to refer to the question that is whether 2.2, Geometry Dash’s upcoming update, will be worth it or not. 2.2 has been hyped for a long time, but some of the features that have been announced are questionable at the least, and realizing this, I decided to take an in-depth look at a few 2.2 features that could benefit or detract from Geometry Dash, then take a look at the question as a whole. ok wtf i just rewatched this and i’m really sorry about the voice quality in this video, i have no idea why it’s so fuzzy and weird at some parts and has so many little mic bump noises, hopefully it’s not too big a deal, it’s really annoying to listen to and i’ll try to fix it for next time. sorry again about this guys :(

People get mad at platformer mode but forget one important thing: “Platformer mode will be an optional feature for a level, just like 2 player mode. And even then, the vast, vast majority of levels will not include the feature”

Well obviously it will be a separate kind of level. The problem is that it will create a completely separate game essentially. And yes, there will be a lot of these levels because people will want to use it.

I think Rob has a problem with ideas. He might just think: "hm X would be incredible!" Then makes X "wow, Y sounds great" Then makes Y "man Z is on another lvl!" And then goes on and on.

I think that every feature being added in 2.2 is going to be good for GD (assuming they work correctly) and that complaints about things such as the random trigger and platformer mode are too hastily made. The general consensus seems to be that people do not want these features because they could be used in poor ways or because they are too far out. I feel that that kind of thinking keeps us from innovating further with GD and its editor - simply because of the fear that new features might take some getting used to. Sure, the random trigger could see some annoying uses, but what trigger doesn’t? Even the color triggers can be used poorly, with the amount of seizure-inducing unnamed 0 levels there are. I think that whenever a new feature or trigger is added, there will be poor uses of it and there will be good ones. I think that having the good uses of these features is worth having the poor ones, and that we as a community need to fully realize the potential of these features instead of mindlessly rejecting anything new that could lead to innovation.

The problem I have with that argument is the already enormous waiting time as well as the scope of the update. The game has some glaring problems and has had them for years. Is it actually necessary to devote time and resources on a different mode such as the platformer mode? It just seems...off. There is very little connection to what the game actually is and the new mode. Slapping on new features that the wide fanbase doesn't even really want is not the right way to make an update more appealing. The fact that it raises expectations even introduces more pressure on the developer. In the end, I see it as quite unnecessary.

Penta I agree that the wait time is long but a few things imo. For one, mini games will be so much better with playformer mode. With up to 3 controls now they can be even better. Second, random trigger can be very useful in things like boss fights and mini games. Imagine a boss fight where the boss has different attack patterns every time. That would be awesome

@@doominator2229 I get where you're coming from with using platformer mode for minigames. It sounds like a brilliant idea. On the other hand, using it for almost everything else just feels out of place. The random trigger could be cool too, when used carefully. I don't think randomizing gameplay (unless to some very small extent like Jonathan GD has already done) is that good of an idea, but I agree that it can be used in very interesting ways. The problem is how unfocused the update has become. I would be in favour of releasing smaller updates. Let's say release some fixes for the biggest bugs first, then add the new triggers seperately and add platformer mode after that. It would keep people engaged and would not blow the scope of the update out of proportion. It may even benefit RobTop in the sense that he can recieve immediate feedback on new features and can concentrate on fixing them effectively rather than having to work through a huge amount of bugs bound to a big update. It seems like a win-win for me.

The problem anyway was that people were hyping it. So even if it's not worth it at least it would hopefully be out. It's better to get it out then just leave it sitting there forever. Becsuse he said he didnt put it out because of the expectations. So if the hype fully dies out he might actually go through with putting it out.

My opinions: Random Trigger: I don’t have any problems with this trigger whatsoever. If the trigger is used horribly to prevent memorization and sight-readability, as I’m sure it will be, the level that misuses it will likely be ignored. But I assume creators understand good habits in level creation and will use this to execute really unique concepts. Just like the move trigger or alpha trigger it would be super easy to make crappy gameplay by simply removing reaction time, but I feel like when a few months pass after 2.2 the community will phase away from playing around with new features and towards using them to enhance their levels. Platformer Mode: It makes me sad to see so much hatred for this. As someone who has enjoyed making games inside of GD in the past, I see so much opportunity. In the past we were limited to two controls for games inside the editor. This would open up tons of possibilities while making the work of creators such as Serponge more streamlined. But the main argument is that this feature detracts from the actual game itself. While I see the point, I feel like the solution is simple: Just don’t play platformer mode levels. It’s not like people are going to stop making traditional GD levels anytime soon. And even once a ton of people inevitably release experimental levels with the new feature, I hope that Rob has the common sense to only rate ones that have effort and thought put into them, which I’m sure they will knowing the creativity of level creators. Camera Controls. I love camera controls. This will add a wave of new effects and possibilities, and just like the random trigger, people who misuse this feature in their levels won’t get featured anyway. The idea of flipping directions and leaving the camera stationery, however, is not something I’m a fan of but I can still imagine it being used well. Quick editor: Okay this is the only one of the four that I didn’t think was good. BUT and there’s a big but, I slowly realize how useful it could become. This will never be commonly used to make the entirety of a block design throughout an entire part of a level, at least not by good creators. But say you want every block design to have an outline, or a certain base color. Rather than having to individually make each outline and each base of a block, you could use this. I can imagine this saving insane amounts of time and I love it for that alone. But yeah, I can see why some people would immediately think negative things about this feature. I did too at first. Tl;dr: basically every feature can be misused just like every feature that’s ever been introduced in every update. But creators are knowledgeable enough and talented enough to come up with unique ways to use things and to give good experiences to players, regardless of what is introduced. And if something stupid gets introduced that no one likes, it’ll just end up like the mirror portal.

One note on the idea of anitcheat: While I, and everyone else, can agree that using nocip for leaderboard position and faking hard levels has no place in GD, using noclip in a copy is very useful while learning a new level, and if you're not intentionally faking completions, doing noclip runs can be incredibly fun. So instead of outright banning the use of noclip, I think Rob should put his own noclip in, but it doesn't count if you complete a level with it. It would satisfy both sides of the argument.

I agree, there should be more to practice mode. I also think that he should inspiration from beatsaber practice mode by making it so you can practice from a certain point in the level or even being able to slow the level down to learn the timings better.

I feel that Robtop is stuck in this cycle of // Add stuff -> Added stuff takes time -> Community Hype -> Fear of not living up to the hype -> Adding more stuff -> More time spent-> etc. // At this point, the "Community hype" part is now low because of the time taken. So the best course of action for Robtop is to just Release the update, and avoid the cycle again.

How about analyzing the past? The community has always been afraid of change. So many people said the move trigger will make the game too hard and messy, the spider gamemode seems to be too cancer for good gameplay. Especially early 2.0 levels were mostly garbage because of this. But now all changes are totally common and nice for us and I think the same thing will happen after 2.2 So don't be too skeptical, just believe in robtop a little, the creator of this great game

In the last year and this year a LOT of games messed up, hunter simulator 2, mafia 2 remastered, fallout 76,the last of us , borderlands 3(borderlands 3 didn't messed up that much) i hope geometry dash will not get bad ,

My main 3 issues I've with GD that won't be fixed in 2.2 are security, bugs and optimization. 1) Security RobTop is still running his every server on http which is a terrible thing to do in 2020 since https should be a standard (for security reasons) basically if someone gets in touch with your online traffic (or between you and gd servers) he can get all of your data you send to server. Such as your password, email, game data. This should've been changed in 2.0 when he moved from plain text password in save file to base64 encryption (which is a joke as well since base64 was cracked like 20 years ago and it isn't a secret to anyone) Also his servers are an easy target as we could see throughout entire 2.1. Countless exploits and data breaches witch a simple sql injection. It really shows how poorly your data is protected. 2) Bugs GD has so much bugs (especially in editor) it hurts to build sometimes. Hitboxes of small objects are also a joke. To select a corner piece you need to select air that's like 100px away from it. 3) Optimization I lost faith in RobTop in that regard. 1.9 worked good. 2.0 worked ok. 2.1 is a joke. I don't understand how he still didn't fix the vsync properly (more like it doesn't work, he just implemented fps cap to cover it) Random frame skips for no reason. Very serious issue with frame rendering as well (for example you've 240fps but you feel like it's 40) Unoptimized way to save levels (look at Ocular Miracle that couldn't load because of that) Levels currently are saved as a plain text where every single object has it's own properties written. In OM case it casues to game to read through 40M characters to load a level which sounds like a joke. I'm not excited for most of the 2.2 features since they are mainly annoying triggers. Useless new gamemode that will divide community even more. leaderboard fix that prob will work for only 2 months like in 2.0 case. Also this probably sounds like I just can't adapt to new features but as a creator I don't use many triggers and I mainly focus on good looking decorations and atmosphere in the level. And as much as some new features will be useful I do believe that it will cause my stuff to be overlooked by many. People already complain about the level if it has only 2 colors or if it's static. It will only grow to a bigger extend where the definition of a good level will be influenced only by flashy and moving objects with plenty of annoying camera movement. tl;dr 2.2 won't bring many good stuff. While most of people will be excited and happy with the update I most likely will be very disappointed with it due to reasons above. I don't see RobTop fixing stuff I've mentioned above. I can see him adding only more bugs and more optimization issues along the way. Not even mentioning that new challenge mode could be a potential gateway for a new exploit.

I think i have heard that ge replaced all art that was previously pixel images to vectors. That might be good against lag and makes objects not look terrible when scaled up, so there's that.

Also, there will apparently be a lock to camera x and a lock to camera y optuon on the move trigger. The latter will be good for parallax effects, especially combined with platformer mode, freeflying or cube and robot parts.

in terms of platformer mode I have one strong opinion: levels should be set as either platformer mode or NOT platformer mode, they shouldn't merge together. All in all I think it isn't a good idea but that isn't to say it couldn't work

The cons about this update imo is: 1. The random trigger can be "troll" for some people 2. Camera control spam (idk who will do this) will be the same thing as speed, size/mirror portal, it will be frustrating for the level 3. The builder help= copy+paste but all over the block that mean more generic level that have same block deco CMIIW

I imagine a good multiplayer for GD the following way: 2 Players are in the same level, and the character of your friend would just have a lower opacity. You're basically playing against each other, while not effecting the others gameplay, you can just see how he's doing. This would make levels way less boring, even if you're playing it for a long time already.

I don't understand all these people saying that you could ruin gd wirh the random trigger and the camera controls. You can also ruin the game with the stuff in tje game now. You csn make a completely invisible lvl for example. Or use too many move triggers. But these lvls won't get rated (except for invisible deadlocked), so don't worry.

My biggest issue with 2.2 is that I really like it. In fact, I like it so much that a part of me feels like I could be building a 2.1 level, then the update suddenly comes out and now my work is outdated and worthless. This would especially be a problem for Demon Creators, who pride themselves on the intense gameplay possibilities their levels could offer. You can't make any big plans because it's like "well, what if 2.2 comes out?" This update is going to change so much and the more hyped I get for all the good it can bring the more worried I get for what we'll leave behind

I hadn't seen the OmegaFalcon thing until now, and yeah it looks awesome. I don't think platformer needs a seperate server, but rather GD needs a way of labelling levels clearly as platformer and being able to filter featured, hall of fame and search by platformer, non-platformer and both. Camera controls I'm split on. It certainly could make levels much more dynamic, but they have to be used in a way such that they aren't too jarring, otherwise gameplay will become frustrating from being constantly thrown off by sudden movements. Inevitably this is gonna happen anyway since creators are so often garbage at gameplay. Also I'm not a fan of the backwards stuff actually, which wasn't brought up here. Going backwards kinda sucks anyway and having constant direction switches would just be really disorienting and hard to react to. Also those duals with the out of sync icons are probably awful to play. As for the smart editor system, I think it's necessary to improve the workflow of creation. I'm not a creator but as of now, given the standards of creation and the lack of editor ease available to help realise this comfortably, creation looks really strenuous. Rather than viewing this smart feature as a way of bringing the average effort down to the lazy, I think it's rounding off workflows and helping to combat the excessive work that has to go into levels all the time. I agree with all your points about the best features tho, I think they make the update's release worth it (apart from the inbuilt bypass; for me bypass does nothing except lag my game, despite having a pretty competent computer, I'm getting 144Hz for my bday to deal with this).

The problem with the random trigger is not that it just has the potential to be abused, it's that fundamentally the trigger is very difficult to use in a way that's actually good. Almost any application for it would make the gameplay infuriating. It's unlikely to be used in decoration that much either, because it would make creating the multiple versions of deco it would trigger more difficult. I do agree that it likely won't be abused later in the update after people learn how to use it properly, but it just doesn't bring as much good to the game in the same way the alpha or move triggers did to outweigh the issues it can cause

But this also allows people who are willing to be original to stand out. You could for example chop your layouts into pieces and use the random trigger to spawn different sections every time. Tbh it kinda defeats the purpose of memorization which is what gd has been all about but it's still a fun concept and I think it's worth seeing these kinds of levels in the future aswell. The trigger should be used for fun, original and easier levels.

As a GD player that has been playing the game for 5+ years now, I see most of 2.2 features ruining GD forever. And yes, I'm aware that in every update the features are used wrong but this time it feels different. - Random trigger is just straight up stupid; - Platformer mode is changing GD's gameplay entirely, even tho levels using this idea be used in a separate section. RobTop is going for unique ideas but hey unique is not always good; - Camera controls will be annoying as it will completely make sight reading disappear. Creators might enjoy this feature as it is very visually appealing but for players it'll make it unfun; - Smart Deco will make some creators put less effort into their levels, BUT, new ratings system will hopefully fix that. Now the good stuff: - Leaderboards Fixing will make stargrinders grind more often and actually seeing themselves in the top will feel rewarding; - Challenge Mode is just the thing we wanted. Let's be honest; - Improved Rating System will hopefully make ratings less inconsistent, so ratings will actually match the difficulty of the levels; - Built-In FPS Bypass will make a lot of players get motivated as they'll feel they have the same opportunity to get good as players with better equipment. - holy that's a big comment lmao

Most of these features sound pretty cool to me, and I think the random trigger could be used to make a whole new type of impossible level, which would be interesting at least. The only one of these features I have mixed feelings about is platformer mode, because it seems like a completely different game.

I'm just gonna talk about the more controversial features since I already agree with the hyped ones. 1. random trigger Most ppl when discussing this almost always use a surface-level argument to hate on it (can make random 99% death, blind jumps, etc). It's a shame since there's so much hidden potential in something that seems so simple. As an example, the rotate trigger was first seen as just something to make a simple bg pinwheel or random decoration element. But as time passed, it got used in more strange yet creative ways like in bossfights, gp mechanics, and minigame concepts. Yes I know there's the argument that "early on, it will be abused/misused" but that's just how new features are. 2. platformer mode I kind of understand why some wouldn't really agree with this feature but to make that a reason to rid of a nearly 4 year update solely based on that is extremely stupid. I've wanted this feature from day 1 since it'd open up so many more doors that we couldn't achieve before, like creative puzzles, less stressful longer length levels, better ability to create whole navigable worlds, and introduce tons of things you just can't do in an autoscroller (such as the force trigger, ice block, "wind"). The argument "it won't sync with music" is probably one of the worst I've seen against 2.2 since that's not even the fucking point of it. Music doesn't HAVE to sync with levels in a game for it to blend well. About platformer levels being posted, rob has said himself on discord that they're categorized separately from normal levels so they don't get mixed up. OmegaFalcon's 2.2 recreation basically shows off what I always knew platformer could be capable of in-game. 3. camera controls Yet again, the arguments I see against this are terrible. Often ppl cite shitty yt layouts as evidence that the update will "ruin" the game. Obviously the 2.2 editors in old spinoffs are extremely outdated and the feature is nowhere near as polished or fixed as it would be years later (features such as boundaries showing the camera borders have been added since then). A majority of 2.2 videos on yt are clickbaity layouts/low-effort levels that are made by less experienced creators, but this sadly ruins the reputation before anyone ever really gets to use it. There's also things like camera rotation and free fly which would make for some insane effects and new ideas. 4. auto build This feature requires the player to input designs into templates so it knows what to do in every possible scenario. I doubt this works with more detailed designs since it would extremely hard or even impossible to make templates for due to their nature. Auto build also has a randomization feature so it mixes up the objects for you. Extra: 5. Backwards movement How does this make 2.2 bad? The mirror portal is definitely hated on but it's another thing constantly shit on by bad arguments like "it's buggy" or "confusing." Rob can fix bugs (crazy, I know) and already has (one being the percentage going down when going in reverse) and creators/players will obviously fine tune and adapt. Subzero's press start already showcased camera controls and backwards movement used together and it looks pretty good. There's other things like the particle editor and swingcopter that I can't wait for as well. Just hoping the update will be out before the end of 2020 lmao

GD has been a part of my life for almost 5 years, but recently I have been more inspired to make my own music since the program I used is much bigger than GD and is updated more often than the game. I hope it comes out soon because I don't want to leave the game, but the clock is ticking.

Here’s an interesting fact, the wait time for 2.2 has now exceeded half of the entire lifespan of Geometry Dash. Personally I’m fine with waiting because there’s always user created levels & other games to play while I wait. Sure, some of the features like the random trigger are looked at in a mostly negative light but some people will still do great things with it sometimes. Just look at Kaizo by Omega Falcon or the 3rd coin of Future Funk 1 by Jonathan GD.

one thing i thought of thatd be good for the leaderboard fix is instead of leaderboard banning noclippers, have it detect if someone is using noclip, and if it detects theyre using it, the game wont give stars on the level they noclipped. some people noclip for fun and not to get free stars and climb leaderboards, and its unfair to straight up leaderboard ban someone for noclipping once. also not allowing noclipping with an anticheat will limit people who use it for fun

People thought the move trigger would ruin the game for the same reasons. Sure, it was annoying to start, but when people started to use it in creative ways, the levels just got better and better. People are only looking at the first phase of a new feature's release and not the phases after.

I think the auto draw build feature may be useful for filling block designs with bg blocks before doing the actual block design. As a creator it takes most of the time to fill in the blocks before doing the block design before the actual block design and it'll make it easier to build large levels.

I feel like the smart deco is great in some aspects, for example: Say you wanted to have a universal subtle glow on all of the blocks in your layout the smart build would be a great tool for that. On the other hand it could influence part of the creating community to have more of a quantity over quality outlook on creating which I think is the last thing this community needs.

I don't think features like Random Trigger and Camera Controls are bad at all. Yes, they will inevitably be abused, but that's what happens with every feature (see early 2.0 move trigger). What I am against is Platformer Mode, and to an extent, going in reverse. Platformer mode is not in the spirit of the game, as it fundamentally changes what GD is. I know normal levels won't cease to exist, but I still don't want platformer mode.

I agree with this. Just wanted to touch on the autobuild a bit. I think the feature is a really good addicition, you can make things faster but you can still add unique things without being lazy. Its kinda inevitable that cp grinding wont happen but rob could make a sort standars that if something in the level is really repetitive, in this case, the block deco, it doesnt get rated, or just gets star rated, which will make people not use it as much as a quick way to make levels.

This is a great video! Way to sum up the wait for 2.2 and some of the core features. Although, I feel like the fps cap part is a little off. It would've definitely been worth mentioning that 1000 fps in-game, after 2.2, does not mean you are actually seeing 1000 frames per second. The game will almost definitely run smoother, but anyone with a 60hz monitor will still be limited to seeing only 60 frames per second. The game will still not be equal for everyone since that's just not possible. Not only will people with higher refresh rate monitors have MANY more frames to react, they will also experience much delay, since the response time of a 60hz monitor is usually 4-6ms and a higher refresh rate monitor is usually 1ms

The four controversial additions: Random Trigger: I didn't like the idea because of all the trolls that could happen, but also for different paths people could make. If a demon got rated with the random paths it would be very inconsistent and you would be forced to practice every possibility and would deter people from playing the level. I think only levels that use the random trigger shouldn't be rated unless there are only small changes in decoration. Platformer mode: I'm being honest here: I don't like this at all. Unless there is some sort of way to isolate this game mode in the main game then I think it might deter me from playing the game. I really don't want there to be a daily or weekly that is platformer mode, because like you said it is basically an entirely different game, instead of the iconic autoscroller that many people know. I haven't tested this game mode yet, it might surprise me, but so far, unless it is a seperate browser or something, it will be my least favourite 2.2 feature. Camera controls: As a person that likes memory gameplay and weird asymmetrical duals, I am really excited to use this. I don't have much to say about this, next one: Smart deco: Ok this one is weird for me, because I really like making Nine circles gameplay for no reason and then decorating it 1.9 or 2.0 styled. Obviously I'm not trying to get CP or anything I just find NC levels really fun so I enjoy making them. If would help me out kind of because NC levels are really copy and paste if you know what I mean. If would motivate me to get these levels done and enjoy them in their final form. For other creators, half the time I don't even know they are copy and pasting so yeah. Anyway, my conclusion is is that yes, I agree with the fact that this will make or break the game, but I'm not one of those people that push RobTop to release 2.2. I and many others are still enjoying the game even though 2.2 hasn't been released. When It does, though, I will be very excited and play the game more often. So, RobTop can take his time. But if the update is very buggy and disappointing , I won't be very happy. It won't make me quit though, unless the update makes the game unplayable, though.

Platformer : I'm quite interested of what may come out of it, I heard of the new mechanics added only for this mode, and I can't wait to see what can be done, like quests or fun puzzles-you get the idea. Random trigger : as in Knock 'em, I assume that people will end up using it for randomizing decoration and make interesting effects, like changing cloud speed to better emulate the effects of wind if the bg is a cloudy sky. More experienced/serious creator may be able to make genuinely good gp out of it, by randomizing a level, and it will have uses for mini-games and games recreations that includes quests, as it can add variation. Through fine tuned use of the trigger, these special levels can become much more complex and branch out in unexpected ways. Imagine a game where there is three location the key of a door can be at, and each puzzle and obstacle for each three path can have minor variations. With today's limit for length it would've been troublesome making games in GD that would need giving players as much time as what I'm describing to explore the level, but with the new features it will be much simpler. Camera controls are gonna be finicky at first, certainly the most twitchy controls in game so far, but we'll get used to it, and as we get a solid grasp of the controls, we'll be able to create levels with great effects, like panning up or down to add a cinematic effect, with the right bg and enough skill, it could easily end up in the creation of even better 3d bgs and illusions. Of course creating will have us needing to be more mindful so as to not leave secret ways or forget about the space and time we leave others to react and analyze gameplay. Poor combination of both camera controls and the random trigger surely would end up in disastrous messes, but hey, it's like making a skyscraper, if you haven't learnt how it work your building is just going to collapse in on itself. Reverse function : honestly this one can only be fun. Sure figuring out when toe reverse might be weird at times, but it'll be fine. I figure this could make for a good reappearance of the mirror portal... or should I say its "disappearance"? Yes, imagine that, coupling the reverse with a randomly spawning invisible mirror portal would end up with the possibility of both going backward and "forward". If the mirror spawns, you technical go in mirror mode, but it's the backward direction of mirror mode, so it looks like you still went forward. Otherwise, you end up going backward as usual. I don'T think this SHOULD break any trigger or gp made for reverse, as you will still go in reverse but while in mirror mode, the difficulty will just come from adapting to the possibility of going both backward or forward on certain parts of levels. Sure ok, it's a bit far fetched, but executed correctly it could lead to some very fun design in gameplay. Finally, the quick build : I make layouts, so I can't speak for myself, but many creators will have a lot of time saved for sure, and as said in the video, those who really don't want to choose the easy way can always put the rest of the details by hand, the base of the design that runs through the rest of the block would just already be there. Also, yes, these features WILL be abused, and they WILL be used in trashy ways and for trolls, but keep in mind about everyone dedicated to creating for real, those will learn and build upon what we already have, adding those new tools to their arsenal. All in all, yes, things may be crappy at first, but I seriously think a lot of good can come out of this update.

For me personally, i'm hyped for the auto deco thing. I absolutely hate making deco, it is the most boring thing in the game for me. I'd rather click the cubes in the title menu. I miss when it didn't take months to make a good level or at least put those months into making better gameplay instead of just visuals, this i believe will fix my problem.

Personally I think that the random trigger will not affect the game to badly, as it's misuse will probably result in a level not becoming featured or popular. Platformer mode seems too much like a different game, and could be more like what is seen in press start, as that fits in more naturally. Camera controls seem like a good next step in the game, and gives levels more life and enables them to be more enjoyable. This is my opinion on the matter, so ye

I really like the concept of making game levels, so my opinions is 1.Platformer mode adds 2 more buttons 2. With platformer mode and/or a completely still camera, it will be possible to better make stuff like tetris, sokobanlike games or similar, that use lots of objects. These could be all addressed by the same move triggers, and follow triggers that freeze the blocks that are not being pushed in place completely (follow self self xmod - 1 ymod - 1 999 sec until stopped.)

Honestly the only thing I am against is platformer mode, although all the controversy on it could simply be fixed by having it as a different section, like a button in the main menu which leads to the main platformer mode levels and the online platformer mode levels, it can remain tied in with the normal mode of gd in terms of stars, orbs, etc, but it will be so that if someome somehow doesn't wanna play them they don't have to even encounter them in the normal levels...

I’m more creator than player and I honestly like how 2.2 will make creating a lot easier. I completely see people’s point that they see creating as a challenge and that certain 2.2 features will make it less of one. However, that’s one approach. I want to go to the limits with creating and you just can’t go to the limits if you have to deal with things like fixing the y position of a custom bg or creating a custom scale effect because there isn’t one in the game yet all the time. While I completely respect the approach of creating being a challenge, my approach should be respected too and I mean that’s what the 1.9 GDPS is for - pretty sure they’ll create a 2.1 GDPS, too. You could compare that to Minecraft. A lot of people are still playing the 1.8 version of the game since newer updates introduced changes that they didn’t like. Same thing, it’s completely cool that people dislike these and prefer to play on a version of the game that doesn’t contain them, but the same way people have to respect it if someone likes these changes and is looking forward to more. Saying that creating shouldn’t be made easier basically means "I’m making creating a challenge for myself, so everyone has to do the same."

people are against camera controls because all the usage of them so far has been choppy and badly done. However, we have to remember how people used movement in early 2.0, people WILL learn how to use new features over time. I think the big thing is to use them sparingly, don't get too excited, and only use them where they make sense. People really need to learn this based on what I've seen. I can't wait to do some subtle atmospheric slow camera shakes with them, that's for sure.

at this point with 2.2 I'm already expecting disappointment due to the hype for the update being so high, I just wish rob would stop adding new things and just focus on getting it out at this point to avoid the disappointment getting much greater than what it is now.

I think the bad stuff mentionned about random trigger and camera control is not gonna be much of a problem bc even tho it is extremely cancer, levels including these things won't be rated anyways (just avoid the recent tab when 2.2 will come out)

I think that the fact that there is ‘controversy’ in these new 2.2 features is sorta pointless because in the end robtops aim is to develop the game and make something more out of it and people are prolly just afraid of change. As for camera controls, people may think it will make the game tougher but in the end it’s just a part of memory and as we take a few attempts we’ll get used to it and it’ll do more good than harm . for platforming mode robs aim was again to develop the game from what it has been for years, and that it will not affect the actual hardest levels in the game (as in levels using this mode have a comparatively much lower chance of being harder than, say Tartarus) and will be more like a different segment in the game itself which will increase creating potential just like the omega guy did. Moreover, many people are ig just viewing this from a players point of view when it clearly depends on the creator as to how such effects should be used and that I’m sure that creators who intend to make good levels will only use it to make their levels better. Ps I’m sorry this was very long, sorta obvious and shit but it actually shocked me when I heard that people were actually against these features, ok this is very very long Edit : again with the random trigger, if we don’t think about how badly the random trigger can be used to make levels annoying (which creators mostly won’t imo) it has a lot of potential and is a good idea

I'm good with every feature except going backwards. That one's useless with the way this game works, and I'm saying with confidence, it will cause a lot of bugs no matter how much Rob refines it. It's just too unpredictable. Hopefully people will use it sparingly.

The random trigger can be used in fun ways like having 2 possible deco styles in the same level Or for annoying and hard gameplay so it totaly depends on the creators

There is one thing I really despise about Rob, and that is the lack of transparency with the community. I hate the fact that they (viprin & co) keep absolutely every single bit of information into their stupid chat and not say a word about it, meanwhile mockingly teasing us with some random new icons and stuff not a lot of people cares about. To be honest I don't really care how much this update takes, (I mean, we have already been waiting for ages at this point) but I'd love to actually see some progress or even fucking know what he's working on, just a "yo, I'm working on this stuff and that stuff, it's going well and I'm thinking about doing this thing next". For me, that's enough, and the fact that all of this is kept between a mafia of a couple "important" people from the community that basically chose themselves to be who they are and that we are all left in the dark massively frustrates me. Good video though, opened my eyes a bit and made me actually really look forward to this update even more. I've just discovered your content through a friend and I can't say I regret checking it out.

Also i would love if rob added like the higher the demon rating the more starts you will earn from it eg. Like medium demon 11 star hard demon 12 stars ect. Also i would like to so the opportunity for challenge levels to get some sort of start rating like "challenge" and will give u like 1 star

I feel bad because everyone expects rob to put in 100s of hours for the update when he wont even get paid. Thats his main dilemma. He should be rewarded for his work at updating the game.

The thing is, platform mode will probably be one of those things that can be used in levels but won't be. It will probably be used sometimes but not all the time. So I wouldn't get all that mad at it.

A feature that'd be nice with versioning and would make versioning a lot cleaner: *Semantic versioning* Semantic versioning uses the format MAJOR.MINOR.FIX and makes understanding updates a lot cleaner via their version. The GNU Compiler Collection, Apache, Minecraft and more all use this versioning. Can we please have this?

The worst thing is that when the 2.1 sneek peek came out, the update came just 9 months later, and the 2.1 had only one level, and the 2.2 sneek peek hasn't come out yet, and rumors it will have 2 levels.If im going to have a guess i will say it the sneek peek will be relased on october (both levels) and the update on january 2021 if robtop stay active
