The Infiniti G35 was one of the most beloved sports sedans of its time nearly 20 years ago. It's sad to see how far the mighty have fallen and while the latest Q50 has some likable traits, this is a far cry from the excellent Japanese BMW the original model was back in 2002. Let's hope Infiniti has a successor planned.
@@naveenthemachine I've got an 2015 Q50S. I had a G37XS and I felt I was an evolution when I switched. Except the engine sound tune down that I hate, I love the car so far and had no trouble with it. I live in Canada with heavy winters. I would be really sad to see Nissan dropping the rwd layout. Maybe the TLX Type S will be my next car.
No it definitely looks 2014 dated, not saying that it looks bad, it’s still a handsome vehicle. But gets blown outta the water compared to its rival Acura specially with their TLX and Intégras
@@Blckreaperx no it doesn't look dated, people stare at my 2015 hybrid and they think it looks like a brand new car new cars designs look absolutely garbage compared to the q50
What really makes this appealing is the aftermarket support for the Q50 platform and the VR30. You can very cheaply get these into the 500hp range and there’s a huge selection of tuners to do it with.
@@tonypereira2054 Decent amount of power? What are you smoking? FBO, Tune and get 500HP and high 400WHP is not decent. That's fast for the money. I bought a Q50 used before the pandemic for 27K. After 10K worth of mods that include FBO, Tune, light wheels and sticky tires, I run low 11s quarter mile. But you'll never convince these people. I'll see the M340i at gappable bees.
How’s the handling? I had a G37 for a few days and I absolutely loved the steering feel. So much feedback and more than enough power from the 3.7 na engine. I like the styling of the Q50 but I worry that the electric steering takes away some of that feedback.
@@SlimeZ33 So how can you assume that the people talking trash haven't been in one. Let's face it the Q50's have been relegated to Camry and Accord comparisons in its current form. Great car at a discounted price but who the hell would buy one brand new with so many better options at that price point.
@@d.block3148 Audi A8 4.0t 2015. Try to repair turbos and engine or find a good used engine under 10K+ labor . Im looking for Q50 now,no more german single use condoms.
When someone says they’ve purchased a new Infiniti now a days… I’m usually shocked, this brand is wasting away and is only being held together by two models (the Qx50 and Qx60)! Infiniti needs a strong team and a good renaissance.
Q50 made in Japan, for 20-25k used is much better deal than 4cyl germans with crappy quality.4cyl C -class awd with real leather is $52 k new, made in Africa)
@@rachelgreen1368 Assembled in Japan. I used to work at an Infiniti dealership in the parts department. 80% of the parts of the Q50 come from China. Used to see Chinese characters on boxes.
@@LouAntonioGiordano Still , the parts they use at assembly line in Japan are superior to Mexican parts used at assembly lines in America. My 2013 Infiniti has maybe 70-80% of Japanese parts.
@@rachelgreen1368 Back in 2013 the Chinese Infiniti factory in Xiangyang was not up and running. It opened in 2014 and Infiniti gradually sourced parts from that factory. If you buy an Infiniti Q50 now over half of the parts are sourced from China.
Idk about the rest of the US but in NY all these old G35, G37 and Q50 get snapped up by not so well to do folks who race them hard and not maintain them. I see these cars either fall apart or crash every now and then second only to the Nissan Altima.
I currently own a G37 in NY and seeing all of them get trashed hurts my heart😕sometimes it makes me want to sell mine😭 it’s a shame because they’re great cars when well taken care of.
I drive a 2015 Q50S, with the naturally asperated 3.7L. The motor is bullet proof and the 7spd transmission is definitely the weakness of the powertrain, but I use the paddles when I'm looking for quick shifts. I'm very glad they haven't updated this car because my 8 year old car is almost identical to the new ones. They haven't updated anything in this at all. It is a fun car to drive, but save your money and buy a used one with low kms.
Hard to believe this design is now about a decade old. It's still a beautiful looking car despite being somewhat dated. I always thought this car was one of the best looking sport sedans & still is today.
Reviewers/Average folks: The Q50 is a flawed Sports Sedan that is slower than the competition. Tuners/Car bros: FBO and Tune making over 450WHP/500+WTQ. Whatever bro. People slept on the VR engine and now people are waking up because of the Z. Your average joe isn't buying the Q. The average Joe's son that is into tuning is buy it.
I absolutely respect the Japanese and Japanese cars. I myself own an Infiniti FX45 in which the VK is an excellent motor platform for many years and could say it's one of the best cars I own, I am also looking into an FX50. Cheers bro!
What’s so dated about it ? It has the Nissan safety shield as standard technology which isn’t even available as standard equipment with the European competition
As for the exterior design, this car has stellar looks, a beautiful car. My issue is that it looks too similar to the Altima, particularly with the window controls, the instrument cluster and passenger side dashboard. For the price it commands, it shouldn't have so much similarity to the parent company lower end offering. I would look for a used version, unless I could find a solid deal on a new one.
I test drove the Acura and Genesis (2.2) at this price of 43k and their engines felt so much slower. The tech is older but you can put nav on the top screen and audio on the bottom which works well. The interior is still very comfortable compared to the others. The other brands didn't come with tilted steering. Also, the new 16 Bose system wasn't covered in this video which was the best sounding I tested at this price. I personally like the exterior styling. Lexus also is using an older model too for this price. I went with Infiniti. It's still a great car despite it's age.
@k s I agree completely. I've owned a 2018 Silver Sport and now a 2021 Red Sport. I've driven Audi and BMW peer cars and would not trade. The split screen gets dumped on all the time, but having the navigation separate from the other controls is a BONUS not a detraction.
We get it Sofyan, you don’t like Nissans. 🤣 I will say, my 2016 Altima SL has the same window switches, the same start/stop button, the same rear view mirror, and the same sunglasses holder/map lights, but geez, you really ragged on this. Was the “f*** this car” really necessary? 🤣
😂 my friend bought one and he is the biggest Nissan/infinity fan but he even dogs these cars because they are just so outdated but the engine is marvelous!
I just got my 3rd one of these yesterday. 3 year leases. Never a problem with any of them and all have been super reliable and never in the shop. I drive 15k miles per year and super content. I'm not very tech savvy so I'm good with it.
I laughed pretty hard around the 11:15 mark at "F this car..." - it's insane how behind Infinity is now with tech compared to how ahead they used to be.
This isn't indication of being behind in tech. This is a feature which also exists on the G37. You can change the setting in the infotainment system to unlock all doors instead of just the door that was unlocked by the person holding the keyfob.
@@sneakwastaken This car is almost 10 years old. Everyone has introduced a new model by now. I understand that Nissan may be strapped for cash to support Infiniti, but they need to play catch up. Most manufactures are going towards electric, or have a refresh of the brand new model they introduced by now. I love Infiniti, I just want them to have their shit together.
You totally missed out on why this is a great buy, it is still a good looking classy styled car, still has good performance for its price. The reason you buy this is reliability. Made in Japan and solid mature design from 8 years of continual improvement. Its a car that you shouldnt need to lease, rather if you want to keep it for a long time to run to the ground. Also if you dont care for all the current LED touch screens and want reliable traditional controls. For what it is today, its a great option for consumers. I have a 2015 3.7S and it has been bullitproof and trouble free.... im going to drive it to the ground, its such a great car... a perfect balance of sporty and luxury... still looks very decent today
Infiniti has some of the laziest engineering managers. How could you have the same car for 10 years without refreshing at least something?! And the thing still costs a lot of money! Oh hell naw.
They (Nissan) aren't making money. They aren't investing in Infiniti, which is sad. They've lost their way and there's no marketing towards their cars. Genesis doesn't market as much and they seem to do better. They're doin worse than Acura which is all awd premium cars. Acura at least has made some improvements to breathe some life into their car. They needa update this to compete more with the IS sedan, 3 series, up to 5 series (based on size and wheelbase), C class, G70, etc. They need to create a fan base again the way they did with the G35. Bring back a manual in the Q60 too. We'd love to see it. If they can't create a new platform, they should pull a Toyota and platform share with another manufacturer. They already collabed with Mercedes for the 2.0T motor, they can prolly collab with MB for a platform to save some money. I mean bring back a hybrid version into this, since all the craze is pushing hard with hybrids. Lexus has done good with hybrids. Lincoln has done ok. Mercedes has done ok with it.
I still own my 2018 Infiniti Q50 silver trim. It’s drive nice till this day. But I do agree that Infiniti should update the car a little for the price they are asking for them nowadays.
@@Blasian_guy lol no I’m just saying for a luxury car after these 4 years it still running well. The usual narrative for owning these cars is that it will start to give problems or be too expensive to maintain. So I’m just letting people know that this car is still a nice option to look out for.
People love to bash on Infiniti, but unfortunately they are at the will of Nissan. If Nissan is bad, so is Infiniti - and Nissan has been BAD. They're starting to improve now, so hopefully Infiniti follows suit. The Q50 needs a desperate update, but I'm sure Nissan hasn't made it easy. Used versions of these are still a crazy cheap way to get a 300+ hp engine.
I had a 2013 G37 truly was a great car, they honestly just need to refresh the interior and maybe add some better tech, or maybe add the 9 speed from the Z?
The only real redeeming qualities of this car - the engine, it's cheap (relatively), it still looks handsome and some modifications can make them pretty quick and look good. Still wouldn't buy one.
I think the design has aged well for being nearly 9 years old. The interior definitely could’ve used more updates over the years for sure. I’m 21 and a lot of people I know around my age have Infiniti Q50s and they are overall pretty nice cars. I think it’d be better value to get a used one. I’d personally probably still take a Lexus IS over a q50. I also love the color this one is. You should do a video of an Infiniti Q60 before they get discontinued if you can!
I traded a Q50 Red Sport for a Genesis GV70 3.5 sport Prestige last November, prior to that I owned a QX50 and G37 IPL, three Infiniti's in a row, so I was a fan. Infiniti has lost its way, far to much digging into the Nissan parts bin, aging tech and design language. Decent design (but aged) and OK engines, but a decade behind the competition. And then there's Genesis eating everybody's lunch, Infiniti has nothing to compete with them.............
same here. owned 4 of their cars, still have the original 2003 G35 and 2012 G37. Went to test drive the Q60 red sport three years ago and just couldn't justify the $$$ for it.
I think the design has aged well and still looks nice and purposeful. The engine is being used in the 400hp variation in the new Z. The interior needs the most improvement of all design aspects, but it still works. If you can get one for an excellent price it might be worth it.
The G35 beat out the 3 Series in two consecutive years back in 2003 and 2004. It's unfortunate this stil essentially ride's on the same FM platform and is vastly outdated. The exterior still looks good, but the interior is pretty much unchanged. This really just needs an interior refresh and use the new 9 SPD auto.
I mean, the FM platform is still an excellent chassis. I don't have too much experience with premium cars, but the FM platform is one of the all time best that I've personally driven.
Best an reliable car ever owned 2004 G35x Sedan come with Nismo aero kit from the factory. Owned the car for 10 years had no issues what so ever nothing was wrong with car! Then I got 2011 G37x unfortunately was not reliable has my G35. I was disappointed direction Nissan/Infiniti so I turn down getting Q50. Wanted some unique had my eye Genesis G70 but got Stinger instead because of its sports hatch and got the 6k off MSRP before car market went crazy!
"Driving this car for this long of time, really just kinda makes me sad for Infiniti." I agree. Everyday that I drive my 2009 FX35, it makes me really sad. Infiniti is a shell of what it was. This thing is probably one of the last FUN Infiniti's. I've lost my faith in them, which really sucks because I LOVE MINE.
I agree. There are third part companies that make Tesla type screens for Infiniti Q50 and Q60s if anyone wants a bigger screen. It definitely makes the car feel more modern and more luxury.
I think that you can´t compare German engine engineering with the Japanese, 2 completely different philosophies, the Germans goes for more HP and very fast acceleration and the Japanese for more reliability and cost savings because more HP and torque needs more expensive parts for the engine, inside and outside.
Hello 🤗 am so happy to see you back 💖 we love you miss you..Q50 its always been my favorite car had 2014 back in 2016 sold it need the money brought a Hyundai Elantra 2017.
My 2013 Infiniti FX37 has 180k miles on it. Never had problems, leaks, repairs,no check engine lights.I peform all the maintenance on time by myself . All original. Built in Japan.
I love this Infiniti. The only thing Infiniti needs to tweak is the steering. I also like this Infiniti because it still has a 6 cylinder engine as the base engine.
Lol.. Dodge has been recycling the same car design almost 10 years now and they don't really get much flack, but they still aged well and they're selling even better. Infiniti still looks pretty modern and aged pretty well in my opinion but not as much love. Strange.
Very true. I'm actually impressed that Dodge Chargers/300's/Challengers have been around for nearly two decades with minimal changes, fairly old/low tech, and inefficient drivetrains, yet still have strong retail sales. The Durango is on it's 3rd refresh since it's current iteration from 12 years ago and they sell like hotcakes still. Infiniti can barely give these away by comparison and I believe they're still heavily discounted when they do sell, but I think that's more from lack of advertising.
I think this is a good looking sedan that has so much potential that for some reason Infiniti just ignores. Would love to see this refreshed with a new interior and updated transmissions
I mean I have a 2013 G37S coupe with the 6 speed manual. I've had it for 7 years and it has been PHENOMENAL. Flawed...yes for sure. But the manual really transforms the car... suspension is good, seats are amazing. Engine is old...but if you push it..it'll really move. I had a G35 before it. I hate that the newest version isn't really competitive. Some minor tech tweaks and the new 9 speed I feel would really make a difference. I avoid the German equivalent for reliability issues and cost of ownership...seen it all first hand. The dual screens and lack of a manual (I know..in these days it's an unrealistic complaint) are the main reasons I have snagged a Q60 RS400.
how funny what we both have had almost the same cars. I still have my original 2003 G35, and my daily 2012 G37xS. Three years ago I wanted a Q60 Red Sport, so I thought, after driving it and then the other car I wanted, a 2014 Porsche Cayman S. There is noooooooo way I was getting the Red Sport. The Cayman S just doesn't compare - still no issues with a 9 year old German car.
My Q50s is 7 years running, kept regular maintenance and never had issue. But it needs updated badly, this new version interior looks almost exactly same as mine. No changes for the better.
I had a 2014, switched to a 2018. They have done nothing to update the Q50/q60 platform. It's 2022 and they all the look the same. Won't buy another Infiniti.
I saw the Q60 redline coupe in that beautiful red they do and it looked so good and sounded great. Infinity has so much potential over its rivals as far as making attractive cars they just need to do some updating!
Is Infiniti even trying anymore? This whole car should have been scrapped if this is the level of effort they put into it. The same can be said for Nissan at this point. The competition is SO much better across the board, especially with Genesis entering the fray.
"F*ck this car" .... Best comment ever and you clearly know it by not editing it out. But like 300hp and it takes TWO turbos on a V6? Come on Nissan/Infiniti. A NA V6 on a Camry can get 300hp. And so still no Android Auto?
This is still a top 3 car in the segment in my opinion. I think they can maybe use a new look because they haven’t did this since 2014 but other than that it’s pretty good.
Despite this car's competitors receiving at least one redesign during this car's existence, it still looks better than those cars, hands down. The standard trope is that it's outdated because critics are familiar with it. If no one knew it was new for 2014, it could've been introduced for this year and people would say it stands out.
I find the design to very sporty and modern, even though it is a few years old. Still looks good and will most likely be my next purchase if I can't find a deal on the AMG.
The Lexus IS is just as bad honestly but it gets a pass 🤣 it's also crap but hey restyle it slightly on the outside and slap a Lexus badge on it, give it a super old V8 And transmission nows it's a RU-vid trend 😬🤣
I had a 2014 with the 3.7. I sold it when it hit 100K miles..and I miss it. Thing was so reliable. I literally did nothing but basic maintenance (tires, etc). One thing I gotta say the Bose system was damn good. Audio systems are hit or miss, but wow. It really floored me. And the seats were so comfortable.
This is a DUMB article of PERSONAL choice. I have a 2015 Q50 S 3.7. And Will be trading it in for a new 2022 Q50 Red Sport. Always get compliments of how good the car looks .
I bought a 17 RS with 20k last year for 27k and Its fully loaded with lane assist which works pretty good. The tech manly used is BT, that's it. What am I missing in the tech world other than google and apple car play? Car is built solid, the motor is solid and is now being used in the new Z which says something. I just don't get all the bitching about tech?
@@James-xg5rh I think its more cab presents which I get.. What about reliability & Cost? I'm coming from a 2013 G37S that I bought brand new and got rid of with 298k miles with zero problems other than maintenance. It was a tank!
IMO, they should replace this TT V6 (this 300HP version) with either the 3.5 or 3.7. There's no point in making a TT V6 with 300HP when they have two NA V6 engines that make similar power numbers.
I have an Infiniti dealer near me. Next to it is an Audi, Porsche and Chevy dealer. Those have a small amount of cars on their lots. There is an abundance of Infiniti cars available on their lot. Sad.
This car shouldn't cost a penny more than $39k. You're very correct in saying Infiniti left it out to dry. It's not really competition for anything. Nissan as a company has had a really bad decade at the corporate level and their cars show it, esp with the Infiniti brand.
The fact that this STILL doesn't offer ventilated front seats, multicolor ambient lighting, a digital gauge cluster, a Digital Key, & a Head-Up Display is so frustrating, especially the lack of ventilated or cooled front seats
I had a 2003 6MT, bought new. I got rid of it because the car was very unpredictable at the limit and it had come comfort issues for us. A fun car to drive otherwise.
3 box style sedans like this one don't have a "D" pillar, just an A, B, and C pillar. Also while most of the review and your opinions were spot on, I personally don't see the advantage of having a digital dashboard. Just another screen to go bad and need replacement one day. The standard dials do their job very well, and will most likely still work after 10 years.
I can’t tell you that a most cars from late 2000s equipped with navigation system still works. I’m pretty sure the dash won’t need replacement if it was all digital.
I’ve always had love for this car especially when it first came out they just need to do a redesign change there Dashboard and transmission would be amazing car
