I think the brake light option on the left panel is to help people to see and learn (especially during one pedal driving) the point at which the car indicates it is braking
@markonikolic7957
@markonikolic7957 Год назад
Exactly it was so obvious at least to me. Surprisingly he missed it, he even mentioned one pedal driving in the video but didn't connect the 2 together. Then again he does lots of these videos so it's probably a boring routine to him at times, particularly with cars like these so I guess it's not a surprise.

I would guess the left screen "Brake Lights" function is to help when people are one-pedal driving. EVs like the Teslas turn on the brake lights when a certain level of deceleration is occurring, even when the brakes are not applied, and a lot of people do not know this. The lights light up in the GUI in Teslas to show this, so seems like a logical conclusion in the Ariya.

I love how Nissan added zero piano gloss black plastic and made the car's climate zone really funky and cool. They did a good job integrating the buttons onto the dashboard and I commend them for not using piano plastic which gets smudged and dirty the first week of ownership
@PhysicsGamer

Sadly they seem to have gone with capacitive buttons. Not sure if you remember those from the early smartphones, but they *really* suck.
@colechapman6976
@colechapman6976 Год назад
@@PhysicsGamer Capacitive touch is not that bad nowadays. In this application, it is a bit nicer because it is not buried in some menu screen in the infotainment system. Rather, it is pleasantly put on the dash right in front of you and it is piano black plastic free. That material is the worst thing about modern cars. Manufacturers put it in there to wow people with first impressions but after a week of owning it the material gets all scratched and dusted up. That is why I think it is great that Nissan found a way to make capacitive touch controls this way rather than the standard, and ugly, way that other manufacturers have been doing over the past few years

Capacitive buttons are kind of a mixed blessing. They look elegant and don't collect dirt, but you can't feel for them while driving, you have to look. That's annoying if you want to adjust the climate controls, for example. (I agree you about the piano black plastic, though.)

My 2015 TLX when you remote started it would automatically turn in the heated seats, wheel, rear defrost etc. Trouble is it was designed in California where they don't know how cold it can get elsewhere. So when you opened the door and got in all this stuff was shut down and it was still freezing. So you had to laboriously switch it all back on manually. With multiple touchscreen pushes. First world issue but poor design all the same.

I have driven the "Performance" high-power model of the Ariya, as it's already available here in Europe, and honestly by our standards it's an amazing car. Most vehicles on the road are 3-4 cylinder engines with less than 200hp so even the base model feels impressive to us. It's also too expensive for most people, especially considering that our charging infrastructure might be insufficient depending on where you live. I think most people will still go for an Audi Q3/Q4 after seeing the price.

It depends... Northern europe is really starting to sell EVs at a good pace and unless you really, really, need some high mileage cruising car to do 1000 kms every week, people will stop buying these glorified "premium" compact suvs with rattly 150cv diesel engines and go fully electric with a non premium brand. An e-tron audi is way more expensive than the aryia so it wont rival with it either.
@svartdraken
@svartdraken Год назад
@@an-dr6eu I know norther europe is doing very well and there's a ton of government incentives to help. It's not really the same here in Italy, we have one of the lowest salaries in Europe and the average new car is still 25 to 30k, whilst the Ariya starts at 51.400€ for the base model. For that price you could get a top tier Nissan X-Trail, which has one of the best hybrid systems in general and doesn't require recharging, which is still difficult here in Italy. As a dealership, we have sold more X-Trails in a month than Ariyas in a full year.

9:19 Subarus show you your brake lights in the gauge cluster screen, and it’s honestly the *best feature ever* and single handedly most missed feature, that I absolutely still miss even after a year of not having a subaru. All cars have the same safety and tech features for the most part, (I’ve had like every mainstream vehicle as company cars for work) they all have blind spot, rear cross traffic, push2start, reverse cam, etc etc. but that little pic of my Subaru showing me when my brake lights are engaged was *so nice* and it made me feel safer when using the “auto brake hold” with my foot off the brake pedal. Cause I knew my brake lights were on for other drivers to see, even though my foot was just chillen off the pedals. It’s def a “don’t knock it till you try it” feature.

Kinda rare to see little "late" review from EU point of view, as this car hit the road about half a year earlier in Europe, even more early did journalists testdrive it, some even a year ago, also the names of battery and drive versions are whole different, marketing games. The two problems I have with capacitive buttons: you can't find them easily by touch (without also activating them), and you can't work them while wearing gloves. Also I'm extremely not a fan of rear-camera "mirrors." Not having parallax depth perception makes it a lot harder to safely judge distances, and having the view angle be decoupled from the mirror's physical angle also makes relative positioning much more difficult to judge. I suppose this is less of an issue because of the backup/wraparound camera and the parking assist, though. I'd imagine that the brake light display is helpful for folks who want to know what the brake lights are doing when in e-step/regen mode. On my Leaf it isn't always clear what's going on with them.
@blandgreen4135
@blandgreen4135 Год назад
I've never used a camera mirror but I hadn't even thought of any of those problems. Come to think of it I'm always judging how far behind someone is with depth perception and I'm moving my head around to see around behind me. Cameras and screens for mirrors are over engineered and unessesary.
