@@350z33hr It's honestly not even about being able to afford it. It's the principle of it. If the MSRP is $35k, it's crazy to buy for $60k+. I can afford it, I just refuse to be played like that.
@@350z33hr Not sure what your issue is. Do I know you irl or something? Why are you coming at me with clown emojis, making assumptions about my finances, and saying "cool story bro"? I'm honestly confused where this energy is coming from. Also, I never said anything about a $60k markup. What I mentioned is a $25k markup ($60 - $35 = $25).
Mr. Davis, thank you so much for doing such a great job hosting/ narrating as you always have since 1981 ❤👍. I do miss your initial drive in a convertible in the beginning of every episode.
It's crazy to look at the time & the way things have changed! In 20 years it has changed to a factory 3-cylinder 🚗💨 can run what a supercar did 20 yrs ago!
@@leonsilcott4895 I used to be into the small cars but I'm getting older now and I bought myself a 22 Toyota Tacoma 6-speed manual transmission & I'm not looking 🔙
No, I was on the press launch a while back so we were still one of the first. We did a first drive then and did a our usual road test when they sent to to us in MD recently.
I think your driver could have gotten a faster time at the drag strip, he just had sport mode on not expert. Was able to get a 13.2 on my gr corolla but still a great video guys as always
Dealership walk me out when I wanted to check it out and test drive one. I didn't know it was the one in the show room floor since I only saw it in stock online. They also aren't interested in negotiating on price.
@@TheOzthewizit’s not hype the car has front and rear lsd ,huge brakes,300hp 3 clyinder people are already making 500hp w this engine and that’s on the stock block.
I truly find that cars in this weight class are a heap of fun if the have a standard transmission and at least 150hp, but 300hp 275 torque, i can't even begin to imagine how good that feels on the seat of the pants. People overestimate how much car they can handle, this is enough car to have anyone smiling 24-7.
bought one december 2023, can confirm it is stupid fun in the corners and puts a huge goofy grin on my face someone described it as "a 20k car with a 20k drivetrain" and yeah that's certainly true, the interior is definitely cheap. but boy is it fun enough where i don't care
I so do not want to like this Corolla GR because of the 3 cylinder engine. But watching it perform on the track, and being able to adjust the power to the rear wheels - manually instead of a computer plus all wheel drive with a manual gearbox helps one overlook that 3 cylinder, especially since its making 300 HP. Which is crazy.
It really is a shame that Toyota offers no intermediate performance version in between this and a Corolla XSE. This is nice; I’d never buy it. However I would buy something with a 6 speed, lsd, fwd, 200+ up for $28k to $30k. I know toyota doesn’t really like turbos as a long term solution, so it seems like a tuned version of the 2.5L from the Camry would work and a throwback to when sport compacts had tuned versions of family sedan engines. Missed opportunity.
Agreed, I wish they'd bring back the XRS, especially with all the dealer markups on the GR. Would also be nice to be able to get a moonroof with a sedan version, which allegedly was rumored some time ago
Funny how the prior Civic Type R was giving a lot of flack for looking like a boy racer but the GR Corolla, following in a similar design, is deemed to be cool.
I called a LOT of dealerships in February. Most were 5K over, few 10K and couple 15K. Got my Core GR for MSRP + $1600 dealer add ons. My clock is ticking a little faster than most, I'm 73. Considering today's market I thought it was a decent price ($40.5K)
Great pocket rocket, not some crumby low 15 second car but this gets into the low 13s. Wow. And the "low budget feel" easily translates into less electronics that will go stale over time and/or break.
I own 22elantra dct. I had a jb4 piggy back tuner. On it and was able run. 0-60. 4.4 sec. Rest car stock I was able to do this. By custom map I. Made and. Limit the boost. By gear
36K for a econo box with a 3 cylinder turbo is not reasonable. Starting at $25K and moving up to around $30 wou,d be "reasonable". Forget dealer markups. Not going to do it.
the interesting thing is that Toyota specifically adapted the Toyota GR Yaris into a Corolla body for the USDM and Canadian market. Honda on the other hand, gave the EU, Japan, and US the same FL5 Honda Civic Type R; but gave the USDM an extra manual only Acura Integra Type S to play with.
Actually, hear me out. The GR Corolla Circuit and Morizo Editions are... bargains. Yes, even at $50k. The reason I say this is because the production run for these is going to be very limited and these things will follow the GR Yaris into the world of instant collector cars. You buy one of these, take care of it and it will hold it's residual value better then 95% of the cars on offer today. People make arguments that the GR Corolla isn't as fast nor as cheap nor as luxury as some other cars and that argument holds true. But those people also miss the financial component of this car. It is a low-production unit coming from a major manufacturer that historically has produced some of the most sought after and collectible performance cars. A GR Corolla/Yaris is like gold and those that placed orders will likely find that this car is essentially free.
Decent but the price is why the the Focus RS and Evo hit the exit doors, even MW admit they not sure how long it will be for sale. I'd get a 2.7 CT4-V for that, a base v8 Mustang/Challenger/Camaro even Hyundai Ns for a little less.
300 HP in that small car, I thought it would be faster..not that 0-60 in 5 seconds is slow by any means. Maybe a boost of electricity would quicken that a bit
Many car journalists around the world are happy to see Yaris GR taking down some super cars , others placed Type R above some expensive ones , and now with Corolla GR performing better in important areas than the yaris and Civic ….. TOYOTA ONLY BEATS TOYOTA !
And why exactly did Ford say they thought it best to quit building fun and exciting cars? Building trucks only (except the Mustang)? Time for Ford and other car companies to take some notes on how to do it right like Toyota has with the Corolla GR. All I can say to Ford is: "You Big Dummy!" lol
