Do you know years ago when they used to say butter was bad for you and eat margarine I did the opposite. I always had butter of a margarine and I always said butter is better.❤ and I thank you for showing me how to make homemade butter and culture it. You’re such a sweet lady and thank you for all the research you put into everything before you put it out there.❤
I LOVE your recipe for making cottage cheese from scratch. It has such a wonderful flavor and it tastes so much better than the stuff bought in the store. Could you please either let me know how to culture that recipe, or do a video on that? I'd really appreciate that. I have arthritis in just about every major joint in my body, and medications are getting more and more expensive with each passing day. As a senior (although I'm still working), I'd rather spend my money on good food than on medications.
Mary, your optimism and enthusiasm is infectious. I wish I found your channel earlier, but hey... better late than never! *Love your smile, too. 🥰 Enjoy your day.
You have helped this 68 year old woman more than you know!!! Thank you, Mary. Your cookbook is wonderful as well. Got a question...on your "meals in a bag", could you revisit the recipe for Tomato Pasta Bake Meal-in-a-Bag? I carefully followed each step and it came out very soupy. Thoughts?
Thank you so much for the kind words! And so happy to hear that you like the cookbook!! Thank you!! Hmmm...I will revisit the pasta bake. I wonder if it might vary depending on the brand of canned tomatoes used. I never thought about that!!
I am allergic to aspirin products and had to limit my use of turmeric for inflammation. I am using green tea, pineapple and pomegranate supplements. I am getting great results.
@@TheScotsman1977 I used turmeric with pepper for a year. I developed 2 kidney stones which is a known side effect, rarely discussed. So caution on long term turmeric use. The supplements I listed above are said to have lower kidney impact. Do your own research.
Hi Sweet Mary, I just LOVE all your videos! They are SO full of great information. Thank you for always sharing... So fun to watch and spend time with you... blessings...
I just love your videos and content! We’re starting your curriculum next school year and I can hardly wait!!! Please do a video on cultured cottage cheese!! 😊
Your the best channel. I recently have been in and out of hospital because i have high acid in my stomach, they gave pills to coat my stomach before eating and pills to suppress acid , i need to control this acid natrually and because of all this and my thyroid is very low my blood presure has been going up. Hopefully by eating these anti inflammatory foods will help. Thank you.
I love when your videos pop up. Love hearing about all of the nutritional benefits of certain foods. I’ve tried several tip and technics you bring to us in user terms. I had been a part to full time caregiver for several years for family. Every recipe I’ve tried has been exceptional and very good. I’m now back to work and have found out I’m suffering from all sorts of things going on with different changes I’m experiencing lately. One being the inflammation. This video hit straight to my heart as I felt somehow you must have known I needed a little something to help😂. Thank you for sharing all your wisdom and knowledge.
For myself, the best anti-inflammatories are fermented foods, which are brimming with pro and prebiotics. #1 is always milk kefir (it puts every other milk ferment to shame like Greek yogurt, etc.) which is SUPER easy to make, kombucha which not everyone likes, sauerkraut but only the one in the refrigerated section, and kimchi which is also rather easy to make and yes, bone broth. These are all 100% natural. Kefir has been around since the dawn of time and passed on through the generations. It's health properties are absolutely insane. Like you said, it's also important to note that any fermented vegetable has to be purchased from a fridge, not a shelf in a store. Shelf stable foods are normally pasteurized and the good bacteria is killed off. Same for store bought milk kefir. It is MUCH weaker than anything you can make at home because of the manufacturing process.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for making these anti-inflammatory videos. I have been dealing with inflammation for way too long and have been struggling to find natural ways to reduce it. I will incorporate more of these foods and drinks from your other video to try to knock out the inflammation and get the joint pain in under control. Much love to you❤️
Thank you so much for this content. I'm just beginning my journey into cultured foods. I've had gut issues all my life and have had varying degrees of success with different diets. I'm very hopeful about adding cultured foods to finally heal my gut!
Thank you for making that list, Mary! And for explaining. I appreciate those kinds of lists. I've been making the homemade cake mixes for my pantry, using whole white wheat flour, and they are very good! I can tell they are whole wheat, but my husband can't. I have a package of einkorn flour in my cupboard now, waiting to be used for cake mixes, but also other things. I really want to make more changes, but I'm kind of slow doing it. Another thing I wanted to tell you is that I made the tepache this week, but it isn't bubbly. I think I decanted it too soon. It does taste good to me, though. And I went on to use the rind to make vinegar. So, there was no waste. I will try it again soon, and see if I can do better!
Thank you so much, Mary, for this information. My husband and I have made a number of batches of sauerkraut using your method. I’d like to try some fermented vegetables next. Learning to follow your method of cooking is a lifelong journey. ❤-Brenda
Excellent video Mary! Thank you. I had gall bladder surgery and on a very strict post surgery diet. I can have dairy, preferably lactose free. I'm enjoying kefir, yogurt, cottage cheese. I do have to watch my fats and drink Fairlife skim filtered milk, which renders it quite creamy. I agree with buying fresh fermented kraut and those onions looked delicious! I have not seen cultured butter and will look for it. I am following 'Nourishing Traditions' where my diet regime allows. For me, no red meat. After 8 months, doing well and enjoying your channel ~ Diane
I love this list! I would probably also mention that most studies say that keeping our saturated fat levels at 10% or so of our calories also lowers our risk of cardiovascular disease, so keep that in mind when eating full-fat animal products that tend to be higher in saturated fat. I have upped my vegetables (both fermented and plain) to help to offset this as well, and over the last couple of weeks, I have started losing weight, sleeping better, and to feel a lot better. I also feel like so many people think in extremes when it comes to food (such as all this food is bad/good) that the nuances in this video are very much needed to break us of that mindset. Thank you so much for putting this information out there! I would also love to learn how to culture cottage cheese!
Wow thank you i have no idea where to start.😮.i will be watching an trying to read up everything you have shared an also in yoyr description of the video is very very helpful! Thank you❤
And remember, start small and add in a little bit at a time, otherwise you could get very overwhelmed by everything. If you struggle to get all grass fed meat and dairy, start with ONE thing. Maybe start with grass-fed milk. Then add in butter. Look for sales on any grass-fed meats, too. One little step at a time. Every little change will help, both your health and financially.
I love this. At this time, we aren't able to do this but it will definitely be something that I am working towards. Right now, I know that we can do the butter.
WOW, this was great! Excellent info, most I already know but it's great to hear it in such depth!! Yes, can you show us how to make the Cultured Cottage cheese-please!
I have been making cultured buttermilk with whole milk and started with some powered buttermilk culture..some call it clabbered milk. I have been also making it with organic powered whole milk.
One thing to look out for with the grass fed dairy, especially milk...check to make sure it is not ultra-pastuerized. Ultra pasteurized dairy is heated so high, it pretty much kills all the nutrients. I found that in our area, even at health food grocery stores, all the milk is ultra-pastuerized.😢
Very interesting Mary. I consume all of them in some form, but it was interesting to learn about the spelt and sprouted grains. I quite like spelt flour. Thanks for this! Well done.
Thank you so much Mary ! I have acid reflux , it’s so bad I have to take a prescription every night ! Plus painful joints , so I need all this information ! Where can we buy these products ! Thanks again ! ❤
Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry to hear this. Have you ever heard of Dr. Andrew Weil, MD? He recommends taking a compound called DGL for acid reflux. I have been using it for a while now and it works great! You can usually find it at a pharmacy or in the pharmacy section of your local grocery store. Love, Mary.
Hi Mary when I bought the ezekial bread before it went moldy in the refrigerator, I did have it in the freezer, but when I took it out and it thawed out in the refrigerator it did not stay fresh how do you keep it fresh, and how do you keep it from molding?
Hi, Mary! I’m brand new to your channel and am wondering if all the fat contained in these products is an issue, especially in regards to cholesterol levels and heart health? Perhaps you have a video on this? Thank you.
I needed this. Thank you. Is that St John Climacus on the shelf? It's hard to tell but it looks like a ladder? I love seeing your holy reminders. I'm curious about this one. God bless!
@@MarysNest that makes sense! I couldn't figure out why you would have St. John Climacus in the kitchen. I guess St Lorenzo was too obvious and didn't even come to mind. Thank you for your quick response. I'm off to find a St Lorenzo to go with my Kitchen Madonna. ♥️
That is great to know. I recently learned that there is a new drop off, not too far from where I live, and I think I will plan to purchase some things from them this fall when I will be stocking up. ❤️🤗❤️
Hi Mary great video. Didn't know you were Italian...you specified North Italian. Wouldn't have guessed that. I've lived south of Sicily years ago. But you must have another culture in you... perhaps German/Austrian?
I'm a diabetic and high inflammation raised sugar levels. So for all those who don't know about inflammation save yourself from it as your heart and body will suffer in the long run
Not sure. The research was done on cultured dairy that was a whole milk dairy. Be sure to check the link in the description where you can go over and read the blog post.
Yes amen 🙏 also Mary what would you suggest for someone who has very bad Gerd and can’t even keep salad or veg down anything what food would you suggest?
