Indeed the ho bit was 134page light novela, they made 3 2 hour movies on it! Meanwhile the lord of the rings was 3 books with thousands of pages and they cut out most of it for those movies...eh hollywood amiright?
The worst part is the books get shorter as they go on with the last one being the shortest. Although, the way the second book is set up you could maaaayyyybbbbeeee get away with splitting it in two? That's a big maybe.
@@lucifaerislifeandstuff5181 the 'hobbit' is one book... Research, before you make comments, that'll make you look silly at my hands. The hands of the Almighty Jawn.
@@cjwrench07 you're also gonna need perfectly-curled hair. and look like you just came out of the nearest Gap because we all know your outfit needs to look prim and proper when you're in a survival scenario
That's what I love and hate about post apocalyptic movies: the men are always unshaven with scruffy beards and filthy clothes but the women look like they just left a salon with their perfect clothes, perfect makeup, and perfect hair. Doesnt matter if they said they haven't had a bath in a month and they wear the same set of clothes in every scene over the course of an in universe year, they still look like they're ready for modeling gig. I'm a straight man and honestly even I want concealer that stays on after months of marching and crawling through filth, but sadly since I'm a man I'd have to never touch a razor or pair of scissors ever again.
Cody Reynolds a cursory Five minute check of your own, would have shown that the vast majority of Gasoline/jet fuel vehicles would be disabled. Military vehicles are “hardened” for EMP, because an EMP is produced in a nuclear detonation, and they want to keep using the o es that weren’t destroyed.
@@cjwrench07 Incorrect. The metal shell of cars acts as at least a partial Faraday cage. Here's an interesting study to read up on. The participants are impressive and their findings, quite a read: www.empcommission.org/index.php The one thing I want to point out specifically is, according to their tests, only a few cars and trucks (10% they estimate) will stop running while 2/3 will experience nuisance malfunctions (blinking dashboard lights, etc) but will still run. Also cars/trucks with engines turned-off during the EMP experienced no problems starting, afterwards. The bigger problems associated w/ Transportation are: street lights malfunctioning causing huge traffic delays and gas pumps not working. (The auto section begins on p122.)
@@cjwrench07 the problem with this is that yes a "human" emp would mostly leave cars fine, but because this movie does a horrible job coping the books the emp is the books is an advanced version of an emp, (which we have no idea about so can't be proven or disproven) so although I agree with you that any emp that we could use would have no effect on the way most cars function
@@fan9775 indeed, there is a difference between a unidentified flying object and an extra-terrestrial craft. Heck, the Ho 229 would have been a ufo over britain during the second world war, same with the Me 262, until they figured out what it was. UFO is the name given to possible enemy craft that intelligence yet would have identified yet.
Are you high or just incredibly stupid? Fire kills bacteria thus killing viruses. There's no way burning a body would spread a virus...it does 100% the opposite
Wait so she killed a guy for the wrong reason at the beginning, is it ever utilised or addressed in a meaningful manner later on? Or the movie just completely forgot about it?
A.M. Orphous that’s what I hate about these YA book to movie adaptations. So much stuff is explained and done in the books that the movies always just gloss over or ignore.
I think it's so girls can have a pretty face to look at, and not much else- so they can project their personal cruses onto him. Take a generic looking guy and some features would probably match up to most guys- lol
Ken Dolls... I'm sure guys who look like that just LOOOOVE this particular comparison, almost as much as gals who look like Barbie enjoy THAT comparison. (But some do, yes...) ...Don't think about this TOO hard. There is always the desire to be attractive to the opposite sex. Sometimes ridiculously/insanely so. But Ken is fictional and infinitely more laughable than Fred on Scooby Doo, and the same with Barbie comp. with red haired Daphne. ...Which is why Scooby Doo is considered somewhat more realistic than Ken and Barbie, Johnny Quest is more realistic than Scooby Doo in some ways, and Doug (90's Nickelodeon show) is more realistic than all of them, by far (in a way)... Being less than 10% body fat, between 5-10% body fat as a guy is pretty rare, even rarer is the guy who is that lean AND is extremely large muscle-wise. And I don't need to get into Barbie's physique in that level of detail, which women have that extreme difference in hip to bottom ratios???
@@eventhorizon Take it from a bitter old me. Women tend to look only on the surface and friend-zone the lively and funny guys, because who cares about personality?
The book is by no means a masterpiece, but it’s still a good read with actual characters and a plot. This movie is nothing. Most of the questions in the video are either just answered or at least addressed in the book
Swan Ronson that’s what irks me too. The series was not half bad tbh, but the movie basically ruined any chance of there being a decent series of movie adaptations. 😔
The book goes into detail about these alien bombs called “the eye.” They’re basically overpowered alien bombs that destroy everything in their path. The movie however, was inconsistent and didn’t add them in.
This was honestly the worst movie I've ever seen. This dude went so easy on it! He never even mentioned how hard it tries to be so gritty and realistic whilst the main character maintains perfect makeup and hair for the entire time she's in the wilderness. Legit though, watching this is infuriating, it's SO BAD.
I hated the love interest aspect but I actually sat through it and thought it was okay. A bit mediocre and formulaic, but there are far worse films out there.
Watch more of the channel... lol! That said- this is REALLY bad- I watched it last year at some point, accidentally- I stopped 'cause I had seen Ron Livingston, and I really like most of what he's done- and I'm watching thinking to myself for a few mins... "This looks promising, but seems really familiar- what did I watch on it?" Then Liev Schreiber pops up and I realized "Oh. Wait. It's this movie I watched get trashed on FanBoy Flicks... I need to keep watching" Couldn't do it even though I think both actors are great- Got a bit after the parents got killed and I had toswitch my focus to facebook on my phone. (Family I was visiting was watching it)
That depends. Except for Twilight and 50 Shades of Shit.... Because the movies they rif on MSC3K and Best of the Worst are goddamn Monalisas compared to this YA vomit. @@murciadoxial8056
2:45 Just to make the whole EMP thing SUPER-realistic, I love how they immediately show two cars from like 1993 crashing into each other to get the point across. Okie dokie.
I absolutely disagree with Mark. A strong enough EMP would absolutely disable every modern vehicle permanently. Most cars have electronic fuel injection controlled by a computer, which isn't shielded. A strong EMP would kill that computer, permanently.
2:54 gotta love how the plane loses almost all its momentum at once after the EMP and immediately starts dropping from the sky while also turning on its side in an instant as if it's one of those styrofoam airplane toys ^^
You could have a whole channel of just reviewing Chloe Moretz's bad movies. This girl is female Nicolas Cage. At just 19 she already made more movies than some actors do in 50 years of career, yet barely a few don't have a rotten tomato. She clearly should be more picky with movies just judging by the number of them. Does she just accept any role she gets offered? wtf
Well you gotta make money somehow and turning down roles isn’t a way to do that. Besides she’s a great actress, just not in the best movies. But she’s been in some really great ones and she shined in those
All actors have bad movies in their repertoir, maybe not as many as her, but if you want to make a name for yourself then you want to make any role you're given a good one to watch
Now I want to see "They Live" man that was my favorite movie as a kid. I remember the first time I played Duke Nukem for the Super NES & heard Duke say that Kick ass & chew bubble gum line I yelled out "That's Roddy Piper's line in They Live" Then everything quickly was making more sense in that game.
An EMP doesn't stop the engine from pumping gas and burning it. It's all done mechanically after ignition. That's the core principle of Otto and Diesel engines. Tesla, on the other hand... Still, EMPs don't disable brakes or make cars go haywire. It'll probably only mess up your radio. Oh, and the same goes for jet engines on planes, it's kind of the same priciple. I didn't really knew it either, until I googled "how jet engines work"! For f...
Laurentiu Badea yeah, newer cars would probably have issues since they have computer-controlled fuel injection and wire controlled steering. But, older cars and military vehicles, which either lack computers or (in the case of most military vehicles) are designed to withstand an EMP, they’d likely be fine. Jets, I’m not so sure about. They have electronic everywhere, controlling everything. Especially passenger liners. They would probably just become giant gliders after an EMP, unable to restart their engines.
Have you never heard of an ecu chip aka electronic control unit? You know the chip that controls every function in your engine meaning the input and output in most modern cars engines. If your ecu chip is damaged your car becomes inoperable and sense the ecu is electronically operated it is vulnerable to electro mangnetic pulses just like ever other elctronic device is. Military grade vehicles don't have those tho. HMMWV are minimalistic vehicles with very and I mean very little eltronic components. I should know I was a light wheeled vehicle mechanic in the army and worked on them on the daily. So an emp would have little effect on military grade vehicles.
The only engines unaffected by an EMP would either be older diesel engines or anything with a carburetor and a mechanical ignition. Any engines with fuel injection or computer controlled ignition would die. As for brakes any vehicle with abs and power assisted brakes would lose braking. Any modern vehicle would no longer function if such an event where to occur.
You all seem to be under the impression that alien technology would be the same as hours. If they have a ship that big and powerful, what's to say their EMP's aren't more sophisticated??
Who would have ever imagined that this movie would have 2 male interests. I mean, it's such an original concept. It's really hard to find another teen novel turned movie that has done the same. It's just incredibly unique, and I'm sure the sequels are even better!
Just once I'd like to see the 2 Male love interests decide they're sick of the protagonists love triangle BS and decide they'd rather date eachother then deal with her bland young adult protagonist mind games.
@ There's a world of difference between being half drunk and fully drunk, and a world of difference between being drunk and an alcoholic. I dont drink to excess or drink regularly and have a pretty regimented diet in general.
The beginning of the book, when it’s about the main character in the environment, scavenging around and making important moral decisions. Then it turns into “You’re so special the aliens will change their ways for you” and “we will win with love!” And was a completely different story
This was one of those movies that made me lie. Someone asked me if I saw it and I said "No. Never heard of it." Partly because I didn't want to get stuck in a conversation about it. Mostly because I was ashamed that I wasted almost 2 hours of my life.
So Evan is basically a Mary Sue. His only fault seems to be the alien inside his head, but hey, you win some, you lose some. I never heard of the book(s) or this movie before and I'm sure glad that I missed out on that.
Actually the alien makes him MORE of a Mary Sue. Having something that should be a disability, like you know, a brain alien, give you all the advantages (eg. knowing how to do everything) and none of the weaknesses is one of the trademarks of a Mary Sue. Its like how all of the vampires in Twilight have super speed, super strength, eternal youth, beauty, a random other power based on personality, ect, but no weakness other than ... boring teenage girls who are less impressive Mary Sues?
They are terrible books. Everyone over the age of 25 is either a complete idiot, or secretly an Alien. It basically ends with the teenagers, killing the Aliens, and becoming the new rulers of mankind, because all the adults are dead.
3:10 Pilot here. Yeah no plane would react that way to getting hit by an EMP and/or somehow suddenly losing power. Neither would the cars either, but, you know. Different thing.
He loves to joke about his age but i think he's actually early 30's because in his Fantastic Four review he implies he would have been playing Nintendo 64 and Golden Eye around age 12.
What? They are from the same series. Arrival is the third book; where they’ve already beaten the first Aliens, totally rebuilt human society, and cleaned up the planet to look like now. Then the Arrival aliens show up, and the main character, who’s now a university teacher, has to save the world again.
I remember when I had an audition for this movie when this movie was being developed. I had no clue it was a book or anything. Obviously I didn’t get the audition but once the film was being advertised I ended up getting a copy in a secondhand book store and I read it. Never thought I was so lucky to dodge a bullet with this one.
@ there was a character named Tank that I auditioned for. I still haven’t seen the movie fully. But I know the character gets killed off eventually. But other than that, I don’t have much info. The audition script was very short and was just a scene with some physical stuff and a short screamy monologue.
@SomethingScanning even slow, there would be some forward momentum... it would not just stop and drop... simple physics, which... no joke... I FAILED at school!!!
In the book, ringer has exceptional shooting skills and is very closed off mentally to the rest of her squad, and Ben/zombie used the bet as a win/win because he also had a bit of a crush on her. He’d get to spend more time with her, and learn to shoot better.
UGH. Another "all adults are EVIL and we kids can save the world only!" stupid tween movie. Y'know, when I was a kid, I read books like Lord of the Rings that had ADULT heroes, yet I could identify with them. Or watch movies like Star Wars and TV shows like Star Trek TNG, and yes, I did not need Wesley Crusher when I had many of the adult crew members I could identify with!
So in the 2nd book it's actually revealed that the humans who are aliens in disguise don't actually have aliens in them but have some kind of computer thing that makes them think they're alien sleeper agents. Or something. Not sure if the 3rd one elaborates on it. I probably won't read it cause the 2nd one got overly depressing and nihilistic feeling and didn't go anywhere.
it feels that the author of this shitty book watched that cool discovery channel special on aliens and how they would invade us, then watched twilight and got the bright idea of mixing both things, but did not watch the documentary more than once, so she forgot a lot of details and miswrote the rest... and also read twilight once, so she also misunderstood half of the shitty stuff, and miswrote the rest of the shitty stuff
Spy Kids 3 was alright, I mean its not winning any awards and definitely isn't the best spy kids movie, but its alright. Sharkboy and Lavagirl ... I feel like was fanfiction of the Neverending Story made by a kid who only half remembered it
This film has surprising decent CGI. Also it has a very interesting story concept. Truly a pity how poorly executed it was. Does anyone know if the books are any good?
Seriously, I felt it had a really good premise myself, but yeah... It was really sloppily done. I mean they got decent actors to want to be in it- the pitches had to be really good.
I know this is a year-old comment, but I had a similar reaction while watching this of "Huh, this is actually an interesting idea" here and there...but then it would trip over a bunch of little things and the whole thing would just come crashing down. It was one of those "I'm not mad/just disappointed" sort of things.
It’s too bad because I really liked the book. The book makes sense but they tried to make the movie as a action thriller but they needed to make it a little less exciting and a little more explained.
When I saw that a new FanboyFlicks Review was up, I did a Napoleon Dynamite "yesss!" Seriously Mark, you're one of my Top 10 channels on YT... and I PROMISE to donate $$$ one of these days.
I love how the plane dropped out of the sky, it really shows the lack of care in the film and if it was taken directly from the book then it shows what a shitty author they are when they could literally google two words to see how jetliners and their pilots would behave in this situation: Gimli Glider
Well, in the last 20 years far too many pilots have become dependent on autopilots to the extent that they have become unable to hand-fly airplanes. it's happened many times.
Idk if anyone else has talked about this but I think the point of a child army is they're easier to manipulate : you put children in the control of super powerful figures and they're going to follow direction and believe what they're told without asking too many questions (mostly, especially in group situations) [see child soldiers being an actual sick horrible thing that people have made before]
I thought it was just me. I got the DVD of Suicide Squad, watched twenty minutes and have never looked at it since. Some good songs on the soundtrack from what I can make out though.
1) I think that the idea behind the fact that the army has functioning vehicles (something that is even strange for the characters in the movie, that's not a plot hole or something like that) is that the army has figured out something and humanity is not as powerless as it may seem. 2) Plot hole: the army guys gather all the adults of the camp and explain them that some humans are hosting aliens. Later, the heroin is suspicious of Evans being an Other. But why? She was not present at the gathering and should not know about that alien can be hosted by humans?
