Finally someone has the brains to tell people it was a PERSON that attacked them, and not insisting upon it being a monster.

That was a good one. I've driven through that area, and I have no doubt that place would fit right in. When the attendant asked if he'd ever seen something really scary, I flashed to that seen from the Twilight Zone movie. Hehehe.

Makes me think of the "Edgar-suit" from MiB. Lived in Washington state my whole life, visiting family in Idaho and Oregon both, and there are a lot of middle-of-nowhere gas stations like this. I remember going to Oregon for the first time as an adult and being very confused about the inability to pump my own gas. Prior to that, I had never been somewhere where someone else did it for you.

This is really long, so whoever might find this, I don't expect you to read it. I just don't know where else to post it since I don't really use social media. I don't relate to horror fans who like horror because they like being scared. I watched "The Ring" when I was like 10 or 11, and I wasn't scared, I was utterly traumatized. I couldn't sleep for like 3 days, and after that, I was afraid of the dark, slept with a lamp on, opened the shower curtain when taking a piss, and couldn't go into a dark room without the feeling of being in mortal danger. I never admitted how fucked up I was over that movie, but it did real psychological harm. And I loved horror as a kid. But for some reason, that movie just disturbed me on a spiritual level, shook me to the very core of my being. The story wasn't scary, but the imagery was so disturbing to my young mind, it was an actual ordeal. All this to say, I don't like horror because it scares me, I like horror because of its style, it's edginess, its mysteries, its creativity and imagination, and even it's esthetics. I love how the internet made horror into a community-driven effort. It breaks the conventional barrier between creator and fan. Anyone with a good idea can make something of value and the social hierarchy is based on merit rather than prestige. People make things because they believe in their idea, not to gain clout or money. Those who do end up making a career start out writing or drawing or filming or programming for fun and for the belief in their idea. Look at Marble Hornets. They just wanted to make something cool to share with their small community on Something Awful, now they're a household name and a classic. Look at Shipwrecked 64 or the Backrooms or Candle Cove. All just ideas people wanted to make for the sake of it that blew up. It wasn't designed with a profit motive, and it wasn't designed from an outside source. That's why I like horror. Because it's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that a community can sustain itself, and that you don't need a big budget or predatory contract to make something successful. It's kind of like how punk rock used to operate. The punks would produce their own albums instead of getting record labels involved. They made their own art and music, and their community was self-sustaining.

So what would the monster have done if the dude was like "fugg that credit card im headin home and callin to have that card cancelled" and just left? Or what if he handed the dude 30 at the start and was like "keep the change". For succh cheap gas id have done the latter. Either way good naration

The big question I have is not what the creature is but did the author go back to drop off his novels?

Seems like the creature is trapped in this place and seething because of it. 👿 It can't follow the protagonist outside of the gas station. I like the scene where it's just angrily staring at him trough the window. Since it' is acting like a F+cked up human being I think it's one of the people who where in the gas station when it burned down. Perhaps he was the one who did it but accidently died and now his soul is trapped there and he is forever mad and his anger gives him certain powers.
