There are a lot of movies and shows about, well, movies and shows. Through sitcoms like Schitt's Creek and 30 Rock, and films like Notting Hill and Marriage Story, many stories specifically highlight the figure of the actress. But this frequently isn’t that flattering of a portrait. Here’s our Take on the Actress Trope -- a reflection of how society views women, and our deep-rooted anxieties around them.

Please do the justified cheating trope! Where cheating on perfectly decent partners is seen as ok and justified and even romanticized just because they're not the one the protagonist is attracted to or just because they're not interesting or smart enough, etc. A good example would be the notebook! Off the tip of my head I feel like they arent portrayed much. If we dont count children or trophy types who get with the guy in the end and that's the conclusion then there arent many types of non moms left. @@Otherwise88 childfree women are portrayed as sadistic child haters, immature, cold, heartless, married to their careers, way to devoted to their pets, broken, bitter, and in desperate need of fixing by sacred penis. The video could do a lot of exploring those stereotypes and truths as the number of willfully childfree women are on the rise. By the way a trophy woman who may someday have kids with the hero is not truly childfree.

“The Actress trope” is really damaging to young girls who dream of being in the big screen, or on Broadway. It takes dreams that these kids have, and it frames them in a negative light. One of my biggest dreams is to be on Broadway, and I feel like I can’t tell anyone because I don’t want to appear vain, stupid, or shallow. I often lie about my dreams, and I don’t tell many people about them because they immediately stereotype me into this role that I never wanted to play. I am very intelligent, and it feels like when I tell people I want to be an actress on Broadway, their expectations of what I can do go down by 90%, and they just see me as this dumb, shallow, and self absorbed girl. I talked to my parents about this, and they have been super supportive about my dreams, and they often tell me about many actresses that went to Ivy Leagues and are smart to make me feel better. The truth is, acting requires a lot of intelligence. You can’t just be pretty. You have to study the source material, build your character, and then constantly put yourself in that character shoes and feel their emotions. It’s honestly like constantly studying books for English class, and then essays on character development. But it’s super rewarding in the end. All I am saying is that acting is hard work, and it can be less than glamorous at times, but if you really love it, it’s worth it. I’m not trying to discourage dreams of acting, I’m just saying that it’s hard work.

I think in the recent years, the "fading by the age" actress isn't really a phenomenon that crushing the industry as it used to. I mean there are lots of great (what we called) "aging" actress who are still working and even being the lead in movies/series. Look at Olivia Colman, her acting career even boost up (and have won an Oscar) on her mid 40s Another actresses that still shines are Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julianne Moore, Ellen Burstyn, Jessica Lange, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, Angela Bassett (she's not even aging i think) and there's quite many more I'd say

It's more the types of roles they get. There's the Graham Norton clip where they talk about how Meryl Streep was offered 3 witch roles the year she turned 40, and how that says something about how Hollywood views women turning 40. Good luck finding a stage role with a decent amount of lines if you are under 30! Or longer if you look young. 🤪 It’s so awful because at 25 I’m running out of time to start screen acting but having to play literal children on stage. Like 11-15 year olds. There’s no winning!! Your video made me cry. I act all the time in my job. I'm a nurse. You put a wall up between yourself and too much real emotion because all of would probably kill you. But at the same time, you have to be there for your patients and your real emotion in your work is what makes you help them. To remember who you are there for and to help you learn. But at the same time...your body and your age...even though it is making you a better nurse because your intuition gets better and your knowledge base increases and actually connects with it...your body starts failing. Especially if you have children and your shifts are all over the place. You have to be kind but assertive. Jaded enough to look after yourself but still kind when you need to be....and then imagine working and relying on a bunch of people with these same problems. Not trying to be woe is me...I am very lucky and thus is the profession I chose....but your video helped.

To be honest, I've been curious to try acting myself. The idea of putting on a character to reveal their innards to the world. To push forward our perception and understanding of the human experience. I don't know if I'd be any good at it. But I'm curious. Thank you for creating this content. Seeing an examination of this idea from this perspective is so interesting to me. How film and mass media engage with our culture's depiction and understanding of femininity is such an in-depth and nuanced a thing, isn't it???

Can you guys analyse the" best friend of the protagonist, who's always at their house, mostly for food" trope. We also see a comedic effect in him/her being repeatedly kicked out. Examples include Hakeem from Moesha and Will's friend in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air I find it interesting why the shows rarely, if at all delve into the reason why, if that makes sense

We need a video about female feuds in media, with Joan Fontaine VS Olivia de Havilland, Joan Crawford VS Bette Davis, Kathy Perry VS Taylor Swift, Kim Cattrall VS Sarah Jessica Parker, Shannen Doherty VS Alysa Milano, Mariah Carey VS Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears VS Christina Aguilera, and Victoria Justice VS Ariana Grande. There are a lot of topics that should be discussed when talking about female rivalry in media, such as feminism, patriarchy, fame, media outlets, female friendship, Smurfette principle, male friendship, and so on...

Marriage and family often interfere with women's creativity due to commitment, unpaid workload, and social expectations of being a "good" housewife. That a lot of actresses, writers, eco-activists, managers, and other busy women weren't included mothers is fairly true in the arts and the media. Russian sculpturist Anna Golubkina said: "The art of tied hands does not like. You have to come to him with free hands ... Art is a feat, and here you have to forget everything, give everything".

It's hard out here to be an actress. You have to love it or you won't survive it. I say that from firsthand experience. You don't last or you'll need frequent space to survive such an out of your control career. It can hurt you bad to live life as others for others through other's eyes & visions. The business & bureaucracy alone can take you out some days. But when you love it... and you can see yourself blossom in that love... man, there's nothing like it... ❤️

I agree. But Bollywood and Hollywood (and let’s face it - the majority of professions) has a problem with nepotism. We rarely get people who don’t have a familial foot in the door make it big in the industry. Somebody could have the training/experience and never make it in simply because they’re not related to a celeb whether distantly or directly.
@ShwetaGupta-hd6yk
@ShwetaGupta-hd6yk 3 года назад
@@ojuskhanolkar7146 Honestly people still go to watch a movie because it has Madhuri, Juhi or Kajol in it. In Hollywood though only Meryl Streep sells her movies because she is in it. Come to think of it even Shabana Azmi can still sell movies in India. And may I point out, Meryl Streep is by no standards your typical actress. We will never see a Meryl Streep again not because she is a very good actress, there very good actresses in every generation, but because Meryl Streep has been nominated for / more Oscars than any other actress OR male actor alive or dead!! She the most Oscar nominated / won person ever in the history of the world. It is extremely unlikely that any one would be able to come anywhere near her accomplishments. So let's not use Meryl Streep as an example of how Hollywood is fairer to its leading ladies.

I'm grateful as an actor (sometimes) that I've never been the engenue type. I usually tend to get engenue-supportive roles (best friend to the best friend or someone with their own arc altogether), or villain/antihero roles in a few cases. For my money they're much more interesting, and I'm so glad that my job isn't to just serve as some male fantasy. If I have a greater future in acting, being a character actor is probably it, and that suits me fine. That being said, I do feel bad for actresses who are judged primarily on their looks in the opposite sense, and are told that's all that they can be and are limited by the system as a result. They don't deserve to be judged only by their looks, just as much as I don't.
