Stan Lee’s narration brought a tear to my eye now that he’s passed. He sounded so passionate about spiderman; so into it. God Immo miss that silly man.
Absolutely, it was the worst nightmare fuel ever. Also, the chase was so long! plus, with clunky controls it was one of the hardest boss fights in any PS1 game - and that's saying something
@@secondbestjojo1300 For people who were already adept gamers yea it wasn’t too scary but most kids under the age of 10 playing the first time shat their pants. Not everyone is as badass as you are. Someone give this dude a medal and a cookie he’s certainly earned it.
I remember I used to give up a lot. As a kid it was too stressful and scary so I couldn’t keep my cool, not to mention the clunky controls. The day I faced it with courage and actually beat it, I could hardly believe it. Was a good and memorable day.
I spent hours at my grandmas house with my brother playing friend or foe. The game sucks, but it was fun for me. My brother is now in college and recently he was on break so he was at our house and we played friend or foe again. God damn that was great Edit: on the wii cuz the Wii Is amazing
So... I'm a rhino. You're a scorpion. And you're an octopus. But what's a mysterio? *(GUY GETS LAUNCHED INTO THE CEILING)* I think I need to play this game, like, right now.
Spider-Man and Venom try to sneak into the Daily Bugle to use the Bugle computer system. Venom: "Are we gonna surf the web? Surf the web! Surf the web!" Spider-man: "Would you be quiet Brock?!"
I really love this game. The final mission with Monster Ock was genuinely terrifying and him screaming "die!die!die!" Has scarred me to this day lol. I'd love to come back to this game today, I'm sure the mechanics would be a bitch nowadays but the story would be fun. I still have a soft spot for the first movie game, but the larger spiderman/marvel world always felt like a better fit for Spiderman, give me more villains and heroes for him to interact with
"I-I-I-I-I-I'm not playin' around, Venom! I-if you don't, uhhhh, stop bein' all destructive....and stuff then I'ma..I-I'ma web you all up! Then you'll be sorry, you gelatinous sack of shit!"
I never played this game as a kid but my friend did and I remember coming over to his house one time and that scene was on with Venom saying "SURF THE WEB". It's the only line from the game I know and when I saw it I immediately thought IT'S THE SURF THE WEB SCENE I REMEMBER THAT! I'll never forget that scene it seems.
I’m just watching this video now, having played the same game only on N64 the Stan Lee commentary is LEGENDARY and I really appreciate how you gave him his flowers before he passed 🙏🏿
This is also my favorite Spider-Man game. It's essentially just a couple of days in the life of Spider-Man. And there something so charming and unique about that. Yes the newer games may have smoother gameplay and more flashy cinematics and animations but this one at least in my opinion makes you feel like Spider-Man more than any other game.
Spider-Man 3 was the funniest game ever. I still laughe every time when people fail the qte at the beginning with the girl tied to the bomb “Help, please, someone.” (Spider-Man falls on his face) “I’m gonna DIE” (Whole building blows up) Now that’s great writing lol
What sucks though is that nobody realizes that there's an entirely different version of Spider-man 3 for the PS2. It's actually pretty good, it basically just expands on what was good about Spider-Man 2.
Shoutout the EELNATS cheat code, shoutout me being too scared of Monster Ock to even try that last level, shoutout those vents for being so annoying and that camera placement for sucking so bad, that my 5 year old self wouldn't have been able to finish that level anyway
@@noahpearce05 wait you had this at daycare, yet there's that picture behind mysterio in his cell? Although to be honest, I played this all the time as a little kid, and never noticed that
I used to play this game on my friends “nintendo” if u wanna call it that, and i loved it, it was my first time meeting spiderman, and every day in the school bus i took his nintendo thing and played it, i never completed the first level since i would always arrive home from the bus and cant play it anymore, but then i watched the spider man movies and got to know him better, he is the reason i watched marvel and loved it (captain america:civil was) he was the reason i loved comics, he was the reason i met my favorite super villian venom, he was the reason i met my childhood hero, stan lee, may stan lee rest in peace cause he truly was amazing.
When I was a kid I had this on computer, and had to learn to play it with keyboard. Also didn’t know how to save the game because I was like 5. So every day I’d start over and try to beat it. Farthest I ever got was the doc carnage chase but never beat it
RIGHT HERE WAS WHEN MY 4/5 YEAR OLD SELF GOT TO LOVE THE ABSOLUTE SHIT OUT OF VENOM. Being this anti hero, willing to help spiderman despite their beef
Watching this in 2021 and this year has been rough so this takes me back to a happier time in my life. Honestly, the first few levels take me back to my childhood
I'll never forget beating Spiderman 2002 and unlocking the ability to play the game over as the green goblin with a new story and voice overs. Quite an experience.
This was my favorite Spider-Man game before the PS4 one. I grew up watching the 90's animated series, so when I played the PS1 game, it was like I was playing an episode of that show, and that is still the best representation of Spider-Man on screen, hands down.
The variety of levels in this game was insane. Solving water puzzles underground, fighting lizards on a train, being chased by a helicopter, crawling up a building while avoiding being shot at, the boss fights, soundtrack, etc. Games back then were just amazing.
PS1 was my favorite. And you hit the nail on the head about Venom in the game. It was really interesting seeing Venom try to help Eddie after the fake Spiderman broke his camera. Even one of his quotes early in the game was "Rest easy Brock, Venom is here." I like seeing Venom being a monster, but I like the characterization moments for him a lot more.
Yes, and even venom having a silly side makes him kind of more threatening. Like it really looks like someone that is loosing his mind, even when he is trying to do good. Not just acting like your stereotypical evil psycopath. His corrupted mind makes him almost like a killer child, and i think thats far more interesting than just a plain monster
What? What's that got to do with anything? Additionally, this silly side is unnecessary. If you've read the Venom Comic series, you'd realise he doesn't need to be silly to get to be more interesting.
This game was my childhood game. Granted I had it on the N64, so I never really had that much dialogue between the characters as I had to myself. But I would remember playing this game over and over and over again, for some reason it never saved but that was never a problem for me because I would also try to beat the game one sitting. This is also where my love of venom came from as well.
I didn't have many Spiderman games growing up but would play Spiderman and Spiderman 2 whenever I went to my cousin's place. The first and only one that I ever got myself was Web of Shadows. I honestly really, really enjoyed the crap out it. Don't remember why but I just remember playing it a lot at the time going through all the good and evil paths.
This was the first game I’ve ever played in my life (I played this when I was 4) and I think I’ve played it at least 10 times. This was by far the best ps1 game i ever played and if my ps1 still worked I’ll be playing the game to this day. Also the carnage boss fight was easy when you used the venom suit since you had unlimited webs and could just trap him the sonic sound.
this game was my absolute favourite when i was a child, like you said the story telling is just insanely good, cant believe this game is like 15 years old
One cool thing again is just how everyone is already set as a character. It just goes from one villain to the next, no origin build up for the main villain, it just keeps going and doesn't treat you like a spider-baby. You know these guys here they are. Venom was great here too.
Rino Romano is definitely an underrated voice actor for the character. He captures the genius intellect of Peter (maybe not as well as CDB, but it’s better than most let’s be honest), but he also captures the sarcastic side of Spidey, and it’s balanced well. Also, it should be noted that this game still has the best soundtrack for the character. The melodies match Spidey’s acrobatics and speed but have a lot of fun and catchy tunes that still listen to today. I really wish we got the tracks uncompressed :(
"welcome true believers and newcomers alike" that opening always transports me to my childhood. The whole first few levels in general make me feel like a little kid again
The 2002 game isn't my favorite but it has a special place in my heart for being one of the first spiderman games I played and I did and do still enjoy it. 👌👌
16:17 Stan Lee passed away so When we listen to this, it really makes us feel soooo sad yet wanting to see eachother in peace and happiness in the hereafter
@This Channel is abandoned I mean like the "villain" path is really just spiderman getting together with blackcat and doesn't really add much at all to the story
This game was a really big part of my childhood, and although the gameplay and the story of other spiderman games are great, I loved this game and had so many great memories with it, this was really what got me into spiderman
"I've been reading comics like my life depends on it, and I'm painfully awaiting for Insomniac's Spider-Man." Me too man, me too. Ultimate Spider-Man for my favorite game.
My favorite moment in this game that I remember is when venom is hiding and you’re trying to find him and he’s like “warmer, warmer, you’re hot baby!!! You’re hot!!!!” I love that
Venom is supposed to be a goofy character. Not so serious and “dark” as many people think he is. Remember there’s the spin-off comics where Venom becomes a “hero” in San Francisco.
yes this was my spiderman game not sm2 this was also the game that i fell for the fake news things like jif you jump off the train at a cetian point in the level chasing venom you can play as him. (for anyone who does not know what i am talking about its like back in pokemon red/blue where people said to each other that if you pushed the truck at the ss ann you could get a mew)
It wasnt something special with it´s gameplay...but comin so MANY Spidermans and almost all the big Villians of the SPider Universe in so many different versions. Also a fucking level of Deadpool having a reality show and fighting you with his Fanboys!
Spoilers for Spider-Man PS4: When you mentioned how Peter analyzes the situation to save as many people as he can, I think of the ending of Spider-Man PS4 when Peter has the choice to save Aunt May or Save the people of New York. The writers at Insomniac really nailed Peter Parker in this game. 10/10.
8:06 also I would assume that Peter (and the writers) know that Venom will not harm MJ in anyway as he is just using her to get to him. Just like in the comics.
I played this game on the Nintendo 64. I was very young at the time but I still remember my trusty password to unlock everything "troublevr". Even as a 6 year old I thought this game was terrible but I loved it because I loved Spiderman. Spiderman 2 was THE game I fell in love with as a kid, being young was great for these games because it wasn't about the gameplay or the content... It was all about being Spiderman and that was enough for me to have fun when I was young. Nowadays I know I wouldn't have fun playing these games but remembering how many hours I could sink into such a linear game or how many hours I sunk into an empty open world is what was so great about being an easily entertained kid.
The choice not to include "sorry lady, didn't see a thing!" and "brains, yummy!" in the Venom segment was criminal wtf and yea, this game spanks all other webhead games w/o pants.
The N64 was my first console and the games I got with it was Yoshi's Story and Spider-man. This was one of the games where I didn't have the save cart, so everytime I wanted to play, I would have to start from scratch. Never finished it, but man, did I love it.
This is one of the greatest Spiderman games of all time & if anyone is a Spiderman fan/gamer, I recommend you play this game & know the characters personalities & story. Spiderman 2 Enter Electro is ok, but not like Spiderman 2000. Its very rare to find a golden game like Spiderman 2000 nowadays because the creators of this game did a fantastic job by adding great music, awesome voice actors & so many things. Rino Romano definitely pulled it off as the voice of Spiderman as well as his personality because whenever I think of Spiderman I always think of Rino Romano & Rino Romano is the REAL Spiderman. Believe me when I tell you that if you get a chance to play this game, you're gonna love it so much. Spiderman's personality is amazing in this game unlike the movies, comics & tv series, he actually has a badass personality, as well a great sense of humor in this game. You will wish that the Spiderman movies has personalities similar to Spiderman 2000.
I personally prefer the more story based games, but Ultimate finds that perfect medium, with a fun city to swing in and a great story, which is why it's my all time favorite, that and it was my first Spidey game so it gets brownie points.
Ultimate' gets very tedious and confusing after a few minutes from not doing storymode and it becomes too strenuous other than that bit its fantastic..
Man, this takes me back. I used to play this every time I visited my cousin who lived far away. I played the shit out of this game and I was absolutely enthralled. Pretty sure this game is why Spiderman has always been my favorite superhero.
"wait, now?" "Yes now, we have no choice!" *Yeets himself on the window* That cracks me up for some reason... Edit: 9:50 (I just had to pin the time so I can watch again)
