Thank you for featuring Marianne Faithful 's testimony at the beginning of this and not repeating the much repeated stories about her and the drug bust . Her career, reputation and indeed life were all dragged through the mud because of this incident..

Yes, it's "funny" how they got out of it with a bigger aura and Marianne was crushed. Misogyny at its finest. Thankfully she managed to bounce back and come out of it years later with the masterpiece that is Broken English. She truely is a hero and a proof of resilience.

Just as a note of comparison, in some states in the US during that time being busted for cannabis could get you a long prison sentence. I grew up in Georgia and was in high school in 1967 and it was common to read about prison sentences of 5-10 years just for simple possession of a few joints or an ounce. But interestingly enough, the penalties didn't stop us!

George Harrison was arrested in 1969 and alleged that the drugs were placed in an old shoe, in his house, to incriminate him.😱🤪 John Lennon said, years later, that this agent was expelled from the police for his unethical actions. I don't remember his name, but he had his 15 minutes of fame, which was what he wanted. 🥴 I was amused by the way they exposed the cowardice of the Stones' manager, who fled to the US when he sniffed out trouble. 🤣 Very good video, Yesterday's Papers.💯🌹😀

Mogg didn't mention Keith's or Fraser's sentences because, as he stated in the article, they are separate cases. The article focuses on Jagger because of the severity and unfairness of his particular charge. Frazer was caught with heroin. Ronnie Schneider was caught with pot, and Keith was charged with allowing drugs to be used in his home. Those were serious charges, not Jagger's charge. Mogg should be commended for his defense of Mick. That article might have been what got the case thrown out. And Mogg's Catholicism and criticism of homosexuality are completely irrelevant to the case.
@amosungar5248
@amosungar5248 2 года назад
I'm a bit confused by this. Why is is allowing people to use drugs on your property a more serious charge than actually being in possession of drugs? I'd have thought it's the other way around. Also I'd have thought that cannabis would be considered a lower-class drug than amphetamines, even back in the 60's
@kamandi1362
@kamandi1362 2 года назад
Yes, I thought it was odd how this video speculated wildly about Rees-Mogg’s motivations and then went on to treat that speculation as fact. Rees-Mogg probably alienated a lot of his core traditional readers with his editorial. Suggesting without any evidence that it was a Machiavellian act is a bit much, really. This channel is usually excellent, but took a misstep here, I think.
@kamandi1362
@kamandi1362 2 года назад
@@amosungar5248 Amphetamines were legal on prescription whereas cannabis wasn’t. So it was a case of illegally acquiring and misusing medicine as opposed to having a banned substance. And the thing about taking drugs in your premises probably dates from laws about opium dens. The idea is that you’re running a seedy establishment where outsiders come in specifically to break the law. Similarly, the pimp or brothel madam would be dealt with more harshly that the prostitute or customer. In this case they were probably suggesting that the homeowner provided the drugs, which would of course have to be proven in court.
@YesterdaysPapers
@YesterdaysPapers 2 года назад
@@kamandi1362 I didn't really treat that speculation as fact. If you watch that part of the video, you'll notice the narrator says "Several years later, some sources claimed that...". Fascinating. I know all about the 67 busts. It was so petty and stupid. As an American, if I had been old enough to be aware of it I would look at Harold Wilson's Labour government and the Home Office and say "...for christ's sake Hal don't you have anything better to do.....?" I know by 1967 things were cold between Oldham and the band so if that's the case I'm glad they parted company with him. I remember years ago I saw a black and white photo of Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith of the Monkees in London wearing black armbands to protest the sentences. In the short and long run, the band had the best revenge. Since the 70s the Rolling Stones are a million-dollar industry unto themselves and Mick was knighted.

Yep. This is what Mick Farren said about Suzy Creamcheese in his autobiography: Mystery always surrounded Suzy Creamcheese (née Zeiger). Was she really the Suzy Creamcheese featured on the first few Mothers of Invention albums, or had she merely usurped the name for British consumption and her own expatraite self-aggrandisement? I didn't really care. She did have these conservative parents somewhere in California, who were so appalled by her free-form lifestyle that they kept having her committed to various expensive mental institutions, causing Hoppy to array himself in a ninja outfit to spend the night with her when she was so incarcerated.....
