I love how diverse the Hollies' songlist can be. Go from this, to "Long, Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (which is awesome) to "Jesus Was a Crossmaker" to "Bus Stop" or "Carrie Ann." It spans the whole British invasion period, from early pop rock to psychedelic rock with a bunch of folk thrown in.

First, it is pronounced Hol ees like the Holly plant. Second, one of my favorite songs. Everytime I hear it, it is stuck in my head for 3 or 4 days. The melody is very catchy, it is within most singing ranges and it is basically a simple song, well arranged. The Hollies were very influential as a band. They had Graham Nash in the band!! Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress was a huge hit as well.

The Hollies had this special place with the fans. A lot of groups vied to be proclaimed 'the new Beatles' by either claiming aloud the privilege or being dubbed by the PR people. All of them went down in flames one way or another. The Hollies never seemed to try to fill those shoes but arguably came the closest. They somehow stayed a respectable distance from that pinnacle and produced a number of very solid hits throughout the years.

This was my first Hollies song, heard it about 15 years ago. It sold me on their music. I never thought of it as a hippy song. It was 1974, love was still around. It builds momentum from start to finish and climaxes at the end. Some songs are constructed that way. This is one of them. Still sounds great today. I recommend "You're Young And You'll Forget" by Glen Campbell from 1967.

I was not a hippie but this is one of my favorites ever. The Hollies were a great band. What I got out of it was that all that I need is air to breathe, nothing else but her love. Simple but honest in its delivery. The seventies was my favorite song era. Things were honest back then and I miss those days very much, especially seeing what is going on in todays world. Sometimes I am glad I am old just so I can see the different world we lived in back then. Much better world then and I feel very bad for my grand children and my great grandchildren, which I have several, who have to live in todays world. One can only hope it gets better.

100times agree to Long Cool Woman In A BlackDress! But I think our Renaissance Man would love and APPRECIATE their incredible song “He Ain’t Heavy (he’s my brother)”. An incredible message from a rock band. Beautiful and deep song. We need more of that in our world. They said it was the most important song they ever created. Also it was based on an overheard conversation from a child at a neglected, orphaned boy’s home. Priest saw one youngster carrying a handicapped boy and wanted to know if he needed help. He replied, “He is not heavy, he is my brother.” Very moving. I also love Bus Stop.🙂 And God bless you too!
