Part two of our mono portraits guide. This week we look at Starting to paint Building skin texture Erasing Materials to help Airbrushing eyes And much more....
Another awesome video from you Mick! Thank you so much once again! You are an amazing artist and that is why I began watching your videos. Your teaching style is the most relatable of everyone I follow. I will keep watching as long as you keep making them!
Great info as usual Mick and put across in a nice relaxed manner ,which if someone is trying to follow along it should stop them getting frustrated .I will get along to you in the future for one of your great courses
Hi Mick Amazing 2nd part I was actually waiting for the eye to blink Your explanations are amazing Hoping to come on a course in the not to distant future Well done mate Best regards Fil
Coming on great Mick, it amazes me how you can do all that with only shading and a few little pencil lines, I like the cut out paper, as you seem to do more with this than other guys do with bought stencils.
Douglas Taylor I like to make my own stencils or shields, i think when i first started i was a little tight 😂 and refused to buy stencils so learned to make my own, saying that there are a few curves from artool which i would be lost without
I am only starting and I need all the tips I can get, I can begin with the paper and advance later to some of the bought ones, I shall have to get my airbrush out of the box first. LOL
Nick, your videos are great and helpful. Keep them coming. Also, I'm having a difficult time finding florest wrap. Can you provide a source from which I might order some?
Very nice Mick love your work.keep up the good work. Will follow your works The stencil you used for structure also called angel wire for everybody who is looking for it Greets Arnold
Really like this great tutorial ...please please ..tell me where do you get the flourish wrap from or if their is anything I can use as a substitute to get that kind of organic texture
Hey Mick...firstly, awesome work and tutorials..the best bar none..to the point and accurate! Im an artist using acrylics, oils and watercolours and getting back into airbrushing. My main question is on substrates... Im into portraits so am wanting a surface I can scratch when needed. Looked at all options, gesso and acrylics and canvas with gesso and on and on. I want to do portraits from 500mm x 800mm to very large,,say 3 feet x 6 foot. Am looking for surfaces I can paint straight onto or prep many at once and a smooth surface. any ideas on this.??Once again great content,,thank you so much. Mark ..New Zealand
I'm a bit behind in watching these videos, but lovin em. My only reservation - Solvent based Inspire and others is preferred paint so erasing once it's laid isn't really an option. But crackin instruction, keep it up.
Davie Johnstone hey Davie, you can erase solvents just as good, the only issue you have is you need to clearcoat your white panel/area first, prep with around 800p and your good to go, this will allow you to erase but build up slowly, i did it for years before i used waterbased, love your work BTW 👍
Hi Mick, I really enjoyed your two videos and have learned much . You are obviously very talented and a great teacher as well. I live in the USA and had a heck of a time finding florest web. I finally found a supplier in Australia. The product itself was inexspensive however the shipping is $25 USD and I'm sure it will take forever to get here. As a devoted airbrush artist I guess i'll do what is necessary to achieve that realism. I sure wish I could attend one of your classes but there Is a large pond in front of me. lol Please, please please, when is video #3 coming? Thanks for everything!
Goat hiya buddy, i really didnt think that it would be difficult to find, but it seems quite a few overseas have struggled to find a supplier, im filming part 3 tomorrow, so should be up over the weekend , thanks for you support, really appreciate it 👍👍👍
Hi Mick, your videos are great and helpful. Keep them coming. I'm learning a lot of you ;-))) I can not wait when you paint the beard Do you also make a color portrait in the future? Thanks ;-)
Hey mick tried to translate into the german did not really get something out of it ... then I went on ebay england is such a kind spider web or Do you have a link to it? Thanks so much
what is the smallest size canvas/material would you recommend a novice airbrush artist use to do this level of detail? The texture tools obviously are going to be the same size on the canvas so going to small of a canvas would make the skin texture too large and the smaller image would make the detail much more difficult correct? Thanks for your feedback in advance!
A3 size is about the best size, as you say A4 can be a little small to start out with, as your airbrush strokes have to be smaller to give correct scale, a3 is a little more forgiving and makes a nice size picture to hang if all goes well Cheers Mick
Whats the redish flourishing wrap material your using for texture where do i get that material at? What brand or type of material is it where can i find it? Ps i went back an looked at it closer it apears to be like fiberglass filter material on a home ac filter or a barrier for gardening for plants...?
Its from a florist, its what they wrap flowers in for decoration, just pop into a local florist or check fleabay etc for floristry webbing or floristry wrap,
A question how does this comic matte with the many different small holes ... where you sprayed under the eye at minute 14:44 ... what is called? Thanks Mick...
zisis1974bfl the reason i prefer to use an opaque to start with is it stops me going too dark, with a transparent the more you work it and add layers of paint the darker it gets, with an opaque colour once it reaches its full coverage it never gets any darker doesnt matter how much you add. Also for years of painting portraits on transparents i felt there was something missing and the paintings looked a little flat, so i tested using an opaque to start with and much prefered the whole look and feel of the painting, may just be a personal preference, but its worth a try to see how you feel Thanks Mick
Hello, I have an airbrush Iwata and the problem is when I want to make a fine line I cannot get the color out and when I press the trigger more a lot of color comes out, I do not use special colors for airbrushes, just use oil colors and dilute them with petrol, please help me, thanks
The main ones i use are createx illustration, either from airbrushes dot com or sm designs Inks seem very popular now also, such as holbien or liquitex Cheers
