I kind of enjoyed this movie. Andrew Garfield is great as Peter and Spidey, the side characters are all very well done, the Lizard is a solid villain, and the action and visuals are great. That said, I think the movie takes a while to pick up and the whole thing with Peter's parents feels really unnecessary. It's good overall, though.

I just rewatched Tobey’s movies, and Andrew’s portrayal of Spider-Man is so much better imo. I like his Peter Parker as well, even though it’s a steer from the comics. Gwen and Peter’s relationship in this is the best of all of the main relationships. Andrew also has the funniest lines of all the movies. Overall, it’s one of my favorites. 😁

Have such fond memories of going to NYC when I was 14 and being so surprised from this after the Raimi films as they are my childhood. This one is really good. While it might be a retread of the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man at parts, and the Lizard isn’t the best villain, the story and the action worked. The characters are compelling, especially Peter and Gwen. Captain Stacy stole the film for me because of Denis Leary. He made me laugh out loud a couple of times. While it’s not my favorite Spider-Man movie, it is enjoyable and entertaining nonetheless.

I adore this movie and the character interactions of the characters. I think it gets bogged down with unnecessary plot threads. I feel these 2 movies would be infinitely if we got a “Webb cut” if you will. I think the distinction for me is the lack of nostalgia tint around the film. In raimi, it’s rooted in a timelessness that gives a weird sense of nostalgia imho. This seems like a more modern take that won’t age as well in the future given it’s not rooted in nostalgia, but does give a neat perspective that the other two doesn’t have. This being an isolated universe but a modern take on that universe.

I did a rewatch of the Spider-man films recently and this one fell flat for me. It's not bad, but it's also not amazing. What really held this movie back for me was the fact that it had very similar elements to first 2 Raimi films but did them worse. Uncle Ben's death was much better done in Spiderman 1. The many complex relationships are tuned down and they really only focus on Gwen and Peter's relationship, while in the Raimi trilogy Peter has multiple complex relationships with the other characters. Even the main villain, Lizard, feels like a poorly done Green Goblin or Dr. Ock. There were some really good things in this movie, some standout scenes like Spider-man making a web in the sewer, I really think they got a really good Spider-man domineer there. The scene with the kid in the car was also great, it really stuck in my mind. Lizard was also pretty cool because he didn't just use his brute force, he actually used his brain and actually felt like a mad scientist lizard. And I think Andrew makes a perfectly fine Spiderman, he offers something new to the role, at least in my opinion.
@titan2k928
@titan2k928 2 года назад
I agree for the most part but I can not imagine how the Uncle Ben death in SP 1 is better than this one. Andrew’s acting in the scene blows Tobey’s out of the water and it felt far more tangible and visceral, genuine emotion seeping through it

The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth She was the only one capable to tell AVI ARAD when to back off Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1 Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise Spiderman was nothing without her

This is an unpopular opinion to say the least but I prefer TASM to Homecoming. I like the different route they went down with it being more realistic and Peter being more of a ‘modern teenager’ who is more accurate to the original comics in the sense that he’s an outsider and a nerd, but not completely unfamiliar with girls and does things to try to be cool. I love the web swinging and that POV shot where he’s swinging and running before landing on the skyscraper and giving us the reveal of his suit. And speaking of the suit I think the TASM suit is great. The whole point of the movies were to be realistic and what was amazing that unlike in the Raimi Movies, we got to see Peter make the full Spiderman Suit & Webshooters, including where he got the parts and inspiration for and seeing him test them out and have to keep tweaking them. I love that he starts off as a vigilante and NYC see him as that. This shows how much he’s grown when you watch TASM2, when he’s the ‘hero of NYC’ and police and the public love him. I also love that does learn the lesson Uncle Ben was teaching him immediately. Ben gives him the speech and dies, but Peter is consumed by vengeance. He really learns what ‘With Great Power, must come Great Responsibility’ means when he saves the kid on the bridge instead of going after Lizard. And the best part of these movies is Gwen & Peter. They are perfect together. She’s smart like him and so they’re scientific arguments and jokes seem very cute, and add to the chemistry they already have. Stone and Garfield really bounce off each other and are so convincing as a couple. Plus the fact Gwen fell in love with Peter for being Peter without even considering the Spider-Man part of his life, is amazing and makes the relationship very unique. Overall I think the film is very underrated and a lot of people hate it because of stupid excuses that either aren’t true or over exaggerated like ‘Peter’s too cool’ or ‘the suit looks like a basketball’ or ‘Uncle Bens death was stupid’. When it comes to ranking the Spiderman my list would be: Tobey = Most Iconic, Best Supporting Characters from the comic & Best Villains Andrew = Best Spider-Man & Actor & Best Love Interest, Most Accurate Suit, Best Webswinging & Best Visuals Tom = Best Peter Parker, Best Suit & Best CGI

Tom definitely doesn't have the best cgi imo... and he's 99% cgi even in scenes when he doesn't have to. It's really annoying. I think he was cgi in all of Civil War which just makes no sense to me. I'll give Andrew the best cgi. There were indeed Amazing acrobatic moments with his Spidey.

Here comes the unpopular opinion. I think I like this film more then the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man. This wasn’t my opinion for awhile, literally just the past few days, I much prefer the high school stuff, the relationship Peter has with Gwen in this film (and TASM2 minus the stalking thing) I think is better then the Peter and MJ relationship in the Raimi films (although I do love that relationship), I prefer Uncle Ben here then I do in the Raimi films because he has more character and I felt more sad when he died because I got to see him more then I did in the Raimi film (I also love the Raimi version of Uncle Ben), I like Captain Stacey as a character and I thunk he works really well and finally, Flash Thompson for the only time in any of these films has actual character growth and it was genuinely lovely to see. Now, there are things in the first Raimi film I prefer to this, first being the sets and costuming, the Thanksgiving scene is perfection (High Top Films did a video on this scene and it’s fantastic) second, the villain. I don’t really care for the Lizard but I loved Green Goblin and whilst Green Goblin was a stereotypical evil bad guy Norman Osborn had a character and was very complex and there was enough sympathy where you don’t want him to become the Goblin but enough rage and ego to the point where your not surprised he did. Third, the ending. This leaves me wanting to see Spider-Man 2 because of what it sets up, Harry hating Spider-Man and Peter having to live with that and he can’t tell Harry because that was Norman’s last wish, Peter leaves MJ to fully embrace Spider-Man despite loving her, how will she respond? TASM left satisfied but also I didn’t want to see the sequel after it because of what it set up. I guess that’s fine because the characters alone did that but I think the film loses it self a little bit towards the end with “turning everyone in Lizards” plot.

I'm glad that the general opinions on these 2 movies are starting to shift positively. They're not as bad as everyone made them seem for the past few years in spite of major gaping flaws. For me: Good: + Performances across the board. Acting-wise, the best Peter, Gwen (Or MJ), May, and Ben. + The interpersonal scenes are fantastic. I agree that if you were to remove the action, the drama would still largely hold up. + Peter's relationship with Aunt May and Uncle Ben is weighted, genuine, and emotional. + For the most part, James Horner's score is quite good. Evocative and triumphant. + Feels like a rarity nowadays for a character to become a hero in the middle of the 2nd act rather than like 15-30 minutes in. So much more earned to really relive this origin story. I don't mind the repeat. + Nolan's influence on the genre may have been detrimental as a whole, but here in particular the tone really works. I like the brooding because it makes sense. + Much of the direction is solid, very intentional. + New York is a community. + The bridge sequence is essential Spider-Man. + The crane sequence. Sure, it's hokey and ridiculous but honest and that's what matters. Bad: - Certain decisions feel like some uncertainty with this take on the character. - Deleted scenes with Curt Connors as the Lizard was SORELY needed. He feels plastic and empty, an exposition machine with baseline development. I feel like if we felt him as a person, then there'd be - They decide to explore Peter's parents, which could've been interesting but when it doesn't fit, it just feels like exposition and an unnecessary detour. - I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. The breakup is a fantastic moment and I understand that this basically shows that although Peter hasn't fully learned his lesson about responsibility like a movie character would and instead is doing what he feels like which a real person may do, can't help but feel like it's still a betrayal and honoring the dead would be what most people would do.

The biggest 3 things these Spidey movies have other the other two spidermen are as follows… 1) Andrew Garfield by far the best actor of the 3 and the other two are good, but he is a truly elite actor who really knocks his wit and emotional moments in the story. 2) most important element for me personally: the romance between him and the equally great or better Emma Stone is by far the best of the Spidey movie romances. Just so well done I found myself wishing while watching both films that their relationship was the centerpiece of the movies, like a romantic superhero movie. 3) the way Pete swings in these movies is super bad ass. I love the first person camera work but his more web sling parkour style was super cool.

You may not know this, but there are a ton of scenes that were cut or altered that benefit the movie as a whole. Especially Connors with the deleted scene where he talks to his son Billy

This is my least favourite spider man film but I still like it and appreciate it . One thing I really like is Peter's growth from edgy troubled teeneger to selfless hero. Also really like some casting choices . Martin Sheen is awesome uncle Ben and Dennis Leary was great as George Stacey. Ryas Ifans was really good as Curt Connors but terrible as The Lizard in my opinion . Emma and Andrew were fine, not great like in the second movie ( yes , I think actors impoved in that one ) . There are 3 main reasons why this movie is just kind of " alright " to me and doesn't hype me up that much 1. Repeat of the origing story , whener that happens it is just boring to me , and there was really nothing new to tell , juat in a different way 2 . Atmosfere is too dark and grey , overral tone does not match Spider Man( again , the sequel improved on that ) . It just feels like Batman Begins with Spider Man and it didn't work for me 3. Lizard was such a dissapointing villian and massive wasted potential for a great emotional and memorable villain . I always saw Lizard as a tragic horror character . Somone who are you afraid of at the same time as caring for him , because Curt Connors is a good person. In this movie I felt nothing for the character , the desing was just not scary

I agree, I love Andrew Garfield’s and Emma Stone’s chemistry waaaay more than Tobey Maguire’s and Kirsten Dunst’s chemistry. The Raimi spider man’s are my favourite movies out of all of them, but I still love all the spider man movies and as much as I love the Raimi films, I actually like Andrew and Emma as a couple in the amazing spider man more. Plus Gwen Stacy in the amazing spider man is more likeable than Mary Jane in the Raimi films (I love Kirsten Dunst, she is so talented but Gwen Stacy is just a very likeable character but both Emma and Kirsten are talented)

I really enjoy both films but this one is my favourite of the two. The story may be weak but I think the lizard is an underrated villain. I love to watch Andrew Garfield and Emma stone because they have amazing chemistry. The two leads are the best actors in the film and from any other spiderman film. Because their performances are so incredibly natural the story feels real and they do multiple scenes where you feel the emotion. I also like how these films dive into the past of Peters parents. Also of course the score is amazing and it has some fantastically directed and produced scenes and shots. Also I love how this Spiderman has a comedic side. Best aunt may too. Peters and Mays relationship and back and fourth convos feels so natural

Honestly not a bad movie 6.5/10 my 3 flaws are Lizard looked terrible to me,the Spider suit did too ,it was a lacking in the comedy section and the improv sections with Peter and Gwen didn’t really add anything and I honestly think they’re overrated a lil bit

After Spider-Man 2, I think this is the 2nd best Spider-Man movie. And in my personal opinion, I think this was the most enjoyable Spider-Man movie. But, I still think that Tobey was the best onscreen Spider-Man but I also think that Andrew was the perfect Spider-Man onscreen. Though I don't think that Andrew was the perfect Peter Parker but he did his best. Yes it doesn't have the feeling like Raimi's three films but I think this was the most interesting because of its dark tone.

I Really Dug The Stan Lee Cameo In This As Well As Spider-Man 3 I Think Those Are The Best Of The Spider-Man Stan Lee Cameos. Those Words Mattered, That Message Means Something Real That Matches The Themes Of Those Movies The Library Sequence Was Absolutely Fun & Inventive For Me, The Stan Lee Cameo & C Thomas Howel As The Dad Who's Son Was Saved, They're The Best Parts Of This Film, As Well As Gwen's Dad. Don't Really Care For Anything Else With This Movie.
