I so want one. Most driving is done 1-2 people within spitting distance of their home. Maybe as a future model a 4 wheel with 4 seats. I really believe you guys have a great vehicle. Good luck and I will be reserving my spot in line

Or a 4-wheeler with just 3 seats would be fine, too: driver ahead, two passengers (or a LOT of luggage space) aft.

I purchased a 2008 Zap Zebra. What a rolling disaster! It was slowly falling apart when the federal government made Zap recall them, pay us high Kelly Green Book and they were all crushed because of brake problems. No one told me they were made in China or I would have never purchased one. Fortunately, I bought a demo with a few dings in the body from a dealer in bankruptcy and paid very little for the piece of crap. I will have to test drive a Arcimoto. I am impressed with this upload.

+Lance Boil Yeah - I looked at the Zap before starting Arcimoto, but just couldn't go down that road. Glad you dig the Arcimoto, definitely worth getting in the driver's seat!

+Mark Frohnmayer Mark, yes lead acid batteries and poor offshore production was the deathblow to the Zap. Zaps could be exciting however, because you never knew if you would make it to your destination or not. One day I stopping at a red light and the cheap Chinese bolts which mounted the seat to the floor snapped and the next thing I knew I was staring at my headliner. I managed to get the seat upright and limp home where I replaced the bolts. I have to say at the time it scared the heck out of me because I did not know if I was rolling into traffic. Fortunately the vehicle was stopped. At the time it was not funny, now it's just another antidote of my crazy Zap story. LOL

So that probably its taking forever for anyone to get one of these on the road. I looked it up on Wikipedia. If you see these on the road it will be in 2025. So many developers yet no one can get something cheap going and reliable going. that and trying to keep gas guzzlers on the road as long as possible

+Arcimoto ; It is in the 'similar vehicles' section of the forum. I posted photos of what the vehicle looks like with a body / shell. I think it looks really nice. With the low cost of the Elio, one can afford both vehicles? One for longer distances and for around about town?

That's a great idea! I've wondered why there aren't any vehicles like this before... How secure would it be to leave an Arcimoto out on the street at night? I was very interested in Renault Twizy in the past, but I don't have a garage (I'm not not in the USA nor Western Europe) and the Twizy basically doesn't have windows (there's no glass) so it's practically impossible to leave it on the street.

This is an awesome idea! Thanks for working on this project. Humans need things like this, and badly. I hope you guys also provide for a solar powered home station to recharge the Arcimoto. Recharging from an outlet powered by conventional means like fossil fuels would seem to defeat the purpose of the vehicle. We can't just shift the carbon source from one place, or source to the next. We have to eliminate it entirely from start to finish.

I'm having a hard time with what you said. Maybe I don't understand. We already have tons of demand for electricity, and the fossil fuels that power the generators. Now is the time to start making the switch. Our species are risking too much by delaying any longer. The longer we wait, the longer the odds of averting disaster.

amazing, Excellent for California and the south west But what do you do when you live north of Chicago, Midwest and into Canada where you can encounter -15 degrees in the January? We know because of the low numbers the Canadian market is usually an after though but still

Nice car, and the current version is much more attractive than the prototype I saw a few years ago. But how weather-resistant is it? The photos and videos don't really show the sides, where the doors and windows would be, very well. Do you need to wear motorcycle rain gear? Coming from a town where it rains for two-thirds of the year, one would expect it to be leak-proof, but maybe not - the prototypes certainly aren't. Also, whoever put the subtitles on this video either was a "what" rather than a "who" (i.e., a voice-recognition program), or was paying no attention at all to what was being said; and just put up whatever it sounded like, at one point getting "our Camillo" for "Arcimoto".

+Baribrotzer Thank you for the captioning heads up! In regards to your question, the vehicle keeps you somewhat dry because there is a "wind curtain" that redirects the rain around you. For $7700 I can buy an fully enclosed ZEV Electric trike (the 5 door one with the hatch rear) with 80 mile range and a heater, windshield wipers, etc. I want one with the 100 mile range option, still less than an Arcimoto

MegaDhz ... and? We are happy to compare ride quality, utility, stability and all the rest with any other product on the market. We are aiming for a product that is affordable for the mass market and still meets a very high bar of utility. There are other products that will cost less and others that will cost more; we believe we have one that hits a reasonable price with exceptional value.

It's an auto cycle. You need just a driver's license. But half the states may require a helmet.

big draw for motorcycles is lane splitting. would you be able to lane split in this? any way the final edition could be a bit thinner?

No you wouldn't be about to lane split, because the wheel base is too wide.

Also there's NO way too make it thinner, because it's meant to seat a passenger. Unlike a standard bike which you sit on.

+Eric Rupe isnt' that only legal in California? this is technically an Autocycle. the new class of 3 wheeled cars that follow motorcycle laws! Slingshot. Morgan, Trex, Elio are int his class.

+Eric Rupe We haven't done a formal poll, but I would think the risk presented by lane splitting would make it a winning feature for only a very small subset of the population, whereas benefits of the SRK like easier parking, visibility, maneuverability, solo carpool lane operation, efficiency, etc. are higher on the list.

+ScottaHemi Whether or not it counts as an autocycle varies -- some definitions of that term specify a steering wheel and recumbent seating posture, whereas Gen 8 you sit astride an operate with handlebars.

need to be as narrow as a scooter and 3 wheels drive for snow, rain, mud, with 2 seconds interchangeability batteries (on wheels if too heavy) etc

.... 2-second battery change? That's a heck of an unrealistic requirement there. The Gen7 has an option that gives it 130 miles of range. Theoretically you should be able to put 200W, maybe 300W, of solar panel capacity on the roof, and that would extend range even further. If that's still not goo enough? Buy a bus ticket. Seriously. :)

Interesting concept, but you cut out a large segment of the European market. That thing counts as a motorcycle over here and as such you need a motorcycle license, which I doubt people would be willing to do. Add a fourth wheel maybe?

+Calum Crowther Calum, thank you for the comment. We have the vehicle as a three-wheeler because it provides many benefits such as more light weight, affordable as well as lower insurance rates. For now, we will be keeping this platform. In the USA, it is not required to use a motorcycle helmet or license in some states and we are working to change legislation for the other states.

+Arcimoto I was wondering if it would be possible to potentially convert the rear end to a type of quad bike rear end. Should be fairly simple, judging from the design, and you could offer it as an optional extra. Thanks for the reply, I wish you success in your future endeavours.

+Calum Crowther add an unnecessary wheel because of a stupid law? You know how that sounds right? If it counts as a motorcycle then I expect you can take the motorcycle license in one of these..shouldnt be much problem if you can drive a car ;)

+Calum Crowther In jurisdictions where you need a motorcycle license to operate the SRK, you'll typically be able to take a skills test using the vehicle itself - i.e. you don't have to learn how to operate a two wheeled motorcycle, countersteer, lean, etc. Trust me, the hour it takes to do that is totally worth it for the lifetime you'll enjoy the Arcimoto :-).

Depends on the state! It is technically a motorcycle. If you need a motorcycle license, you can take it in the vehicle. Hope this helps!

Federal Laws mandate it is a Motorcycle, most states will require you to have the M endorsement on your driver license.

So if it's a motorcycle .. you need a motorcycle addendum on your driver's license .. and you have to wear a helmet. This costs twice as much as an Elio but it looks like less of a vehicle. Elio looks like a car and has a gasoline engine.

+Edd Austin Motorcycle licensing requirements vary by state, and so do helmet laws. Most states have carve outs for three wheeled motorcycles so you don't need either. When you factor in savings on gas you'll actually win with the Arcimoto over time, but the reality is that both are different products with different advantages depending on your needs. The SRK wins on fun factor, efficiency, parkability, and ease of access for both passengers.

+Edd Austin it would be considered a motorcycle in California like my old Zap. However since the Arcimoto has a role cage and and seat belts, California would allow you to drive it with a Class C drivers license for autos. California considers the roll cage and seat belt restraints to be the same as a helmet, so a motorcycle helmet is not required. What is great is you would register it as a motorcycle and would pay less insurance and even take a motorcycle license test like I did in my old Zap and have your insurance lowered even more in California.

The Elio is legally just as much a motorcycle as the Arcimoto. The makers of the Elio are trying to increase the numbr of states that exempt an enclosed 3-wheeler from needing a helmet, but ... that would benefit the Arcimoto just as much as the Elio. (Honestly, the two firms should look at working together on that, at least.)

4x4 in the same size as a motorcycle (without helmet and can be parked on their places) with huge roof against snow and sun (solar panel for air-conditioning) and fully weatherproof and waterproof and battery on a trolley to be charge at home easily interchangeable = next version ? if existing I will sell my big 4x4 car (as I do not use much) and buy this new version of your car (but be able to drive on highway with Tesla big batteries and range). take example in the Renault Twizy with more improvement as that little car has not improved for years ... that one is probably dying from the French constructor

+Arcimoto Any unusual vehikel them "kids" can go and sit in, rather than just sit on like with motorcycles, they try. Even when it's with doors that are easily forced open! I know from many personal experience and it's nine out of ten times young, first and second generation Muslim immigrant kids in Belgium. One chance in three that they broke or stole something. Mine was just a simple 50cc-APE three wheeler.

It will not pick up speed adopting it into mainstream, because gas is cheap and this vehicle is half the weight of conventional vehicles out there or more than half which is alarm going for purchaser. Anyway it will be adopted but not in ten years but about in twenty years. Why twenty ? Reason is world haven't discovered any major oil field pass 2000 and we have abundance is not 'plenty'-ness but sucking remnant with better tech and methods. So, bell curve shortage diagram is not correct this time, but shortage will come faster than predicted as historically would say.

Fuel cost is irrelevant when you actually care about living sustainably. Light weight is the best positive thing about it. You are stuck in the past with your car centric thinking. Big oil is dead.
