In the Emperor's Gift, the main character, a Grey knight says that he can't remove his terminator armour without the need of a full admech team and would be stuck in it for months. As far as standard armour goes, I believe they can take it off at will or atleast it's an easy enough procedure to do it often. The amount of times i've read about space marines chilling around on their battle barge with only a pair of pants or casual robes on.

The armour isn't brand new. They go through this ritual every time he puts the armour back on. You can tell from the studs in his head that he's a veteran. They don't keep the armour on 24/7 only when they're in battle etc They do sleep but they can go days, maybe weeks without sleep if they have to. But will feel tired etc if they don't sleep (obviously don't need as much sleep as the average human)

@@Far-Reez Yes a normal human can go several days without sleep. But in this case we are talking about active duty in a war in the 40k era. A human in this scenario who is sleep deprived would barely even remember his own name, nevermind actually trying to take aim and shoot with any meaningful accuracy. A space marine is biologically engineered to go weeks without sleep while fighting non stop (NON STOP) for that entire period. That's the massive difference. I'd estimate that a normal human could at most go 3 days of non stop fighting without sleep and water before they pass out or die.

They can and do take their armour off, though this is a ritual just as involved as putting it on. They can also go weeks and months without taking it off, if that's what their deployment or general circumstances require. How much Astartes take their armour off, and for how long, can vary between chapters with different traditions. Some chapters only wear have theirs when deployed, and remove it when they leave combat to R&R in a safe zone, whether that's a Chapter warship in space or a secure fortress on the ground. Or chapter traditions may dictate that Astartes only remove their armour when there's good, practical reason to do so: for repairs or ceremonies, or when they are being issued a new set with more bling because of a promotion of rank or position. Other chapters still might dictate that their Astartes have the same set of armour throughout their career, and only remove it when absolutely necessary: when the Astartes needs to undergo medical procedures, or when they've miraculously survived despite their armour taking damage that requires extensive repair, even if removing the armour would make lesser repairs or other downtime activities more practical.
@ygorschuma3059
@ygorschuma3059 2 года назад
They actually take their armor off for routines that don't require it, and even some chapters take their time off to do something else that isn't training and killing, Blood Angels for example are painters, Ultramarines are politicians, Imperial Fists are architects etc, etc. I'd guess even for some types of training, they wouldn't put their armor on, but would use the lighter armor that Scouts use.

They can take the armour off after missions but some tend to keep it on, usually when a marine gets back from a battle and no missions are active they tend to take the armour off and put on a simple robe. But this can differ between chapters as different chapters have different traditions and/or rules.

Depends on the Astartes with specific tasks and are they in war time or idle at their homeworld, fortress or perhaps battlebarg or ship not in transit of warp travel. In the books they describe Blood angel marines sparring against each other without their armour. Even Primarchs that "take a day off" drinking ( Horus/Leman Russ or doing administrative tasks ( Guilliman/Magnus). Some space marine like to remain in their armour to always be vigilant and patrouille area's or ship decks^^ For dreadnoughts its WAY DIFFERENT! Dreadnoughts are just coffins with a severely woundend space marine in them on constant life support, attach arms/legs/rocket launchers/gattling guns etc etc on them and they are... wel... walking tanks that can take much more beating. Chaos space marine: Depends on the legion but many are fuzed with their armour because of demonic possession by Khorne/Nurgle/Slaanesh^^ i don't think that goes for the Thousands Sons legion that follow Tzeentsch, yes they have like big helmets and other ceremonial things on their armour... but its not fuzed with their bodies like the other legions that follow the other chaos gods^^ Good to hear from ya again on Warhammer 30k/40k!! (Edits for clarification) Space Marines actually rarely need to sleep due to one of the extra organs implanted during the process of becoming an Astartes. The organ allows them to shut off parts of their brain that need to rest while they continue to work, so a Space Marine sleeping is incredibly rare, and even then it's only for a few hours. Because of this Space Marines are pretty much constantly in action, and are thus almost always armored. Yes, the armor can be removed, but it requires what amounts to a NASCAR pit crew (although it can be performed by a single tech priest with the right equipment or a tech marine if they aren't busy) to do so. And the only times an Astartes will be seen without his armor falls roughly into 4 categories: 1) The Marine in question is off duty in their chapter's fortress monastery for an extended period of time. 2) The Marine has just come back from a successful campaign and is getting his armor repaired. 3) The Marine was injured and needs surgery. 4) The Marine was grievously wounded and is being shoved into a dreadnought sarcophagus. 5) The Marine has died and his body was able to be retrieved for the removal of gene-seed and funerary rites.

Okay so: 1. Space Marines regularly take off their power armor in the safety of their ships etc, so that they can do repairs, and after every battle their serfs catalogue every damage upon it. 2. The thing with Space Marines and their helmets, and why they regularly take them off during combat, is a sign of strength and valor for them. They show their prowess basically. "I dont need a helmet to survive!"
@CyberSammael
@CyberSammael 8 месяцев назад
A Space Marines life is generally split between training/on a ship going somewhere/at the base, and in the field. They will generally armour up when deploying into the field, and stay in the armour until the campaign is done and they are extracted. That might be a few hours, or months. At the end of the campaign they will return to base, and remove the armour, and any repairs might be carried out then before the next deployment. But spare parts and even the technical skills are in short supply, so the armour us often a bit run down and also sacred.

I know this is a couple of months old, but the silver studs in his represent several years of service. I like silver is 25 a piece, don't quote me on that though. The armor is constantly repaired, time and time again. However, if need be, they can stay suited for a long time. They have a bunch of extra organs and some of them act like filters, reusing his waste as nutrients. I have no ideal how it works, but it works. So yea, they aren't pulling off their armor for a bathroom break, but on the ships, they might not be wearing armor.

"little implants in him" LOL He'd got 20 new organs and has been training and growing since he was about 10. His torso has a hard carapace under the skin that the sockets are set into that connect to his nervous system. That links to the artificial muscles that moves the suit, so it moves with him. The suit could be hundreds of years old, they're treated like religious relics. They can take them on and off faster, this sort of ritual is more for the start of a big battle to be sure everything is working right and properly blessed. overall he'd weight about a ton fully loaded, but that backpack cancels some of that with an anti gravity suspensor under the reactor

This is the full ceremony done after major upgrades, repairs or maintenance where the armor has been fully disassembled by the Mechanicus Artisans. They can remove it, and often do for minor maintenance and repairs along with cleaning the internal life support hookups. The novels and lore often talk of the space marines wearing simple robes in their chapter's colors. Some of the heavier armors like Terminator armor require help to get out of.

Space marines can remove their power armor whenever they want or need. Terminator armor, because it's much heavier and intricate, needs a full team of chapter serfs, tech preists and servitors to get it on and off. The reason why the armor looks scuffed is because it may have seen some superficial battle damage and the chapter serfs just painted over it. Much more serious damage would have to be extensively repaired.

Some space marine artificer armor has explosive bolts and other tech that allow them to instantly drop their armor if they ever need to during a serious emergency. I would imagine wearing power armor is comforting, not comfortable. Power armor is enormously complex and requires special maintenance and prayers. Some armor is millennia old. I would imagine most chapters only wear power armor when their duty demands it, otherwise you're putting a huge ammont of wear and strain on armor they dont really know how to make more of or sometimes even fix!

Most armour is removable, they may wear it for days or weeks at a time though. It was scuffed up because it is not new, even new Astartes would be lucky to get new armour. Some can get stuck in their armour for some reason, like when Roboute Guilliman was forced to wear the Armour of Fate for a few years. Also, a Dreadnought acts as a sarcophagus/life support for terminally injured Space Marines, very few ever leave it once placed inside, those that do either need to be put into another life support system or die shortly after. For a good 40K trailer check out the one for 'Space Marine 2'

In the 3rd person shooter “Space Marine” our hero doesn’t wear his helmet and I strongly suspect this is so we can relate to him better and watch him ‘act’ in cutscenes but according to canon a Marine would be at a massive disadvantage without his helmet and probably get his head popped when fighting against The Imperium’s toughest enemies.

Warhammer vet here. 1) Astartes do not take off there armor the entire time they're on deployment. From receiving activation orders, taking his oath of moment, the ship ride there, the war, and the ship ride home, he is in the armor. 2) An Astartes requires substantially less active sleep than a human as they have the ability to put single sections of their brains to sleep at a time while still remaining conscious. The only time you'll see him sleeping is when he needs to rest the cerebellum. The longest record of an Astartes sleep deprivation is 362 days. This is held by the Crimson Fists chapter while defending their home world is an active firefight they entire time.

It’s more of an environmental suit so for example astronauts who have to do manual work outside in space be it on the moon or In the void, where the suit can be taken off where they might wear things like a garb or robe or even a special uniform made for them depending on the circumstances, however they do live the majority of their time in their armor where things like waste management can be done via an internal toilet system as well as multiple functions of the armor, which also includes combat stims like morphine, pain killers, to stimulants which ensures the prolonged activity of a marine (its like when you had about a hundred cups of coffee where your brain is full of caffeine), the armor also houses a liquid food storage system which can implant food into the user’s body without having to eat or drink, but due to the marines augmented metabolism a space marine can survive far longer without food or water even without their armor, as for the armors other features they mostly depend on what field of specializations they do for example a tech marine would be equipped with better sensors packages as well as an enhanced optic sensor, utility claw and so on, apothecary’s carry vanbraces which are equipped with things such as a drill, saw, narthisium which is like a plunger which is used to remove a fallen marines gene seed. And so on, a space marines armor uses micro fibers, and micro motors which are all numerologicaly connected directly to the marine allowing the marine to do things as if he wasn’t even wearing armor so for example imagine driving a car with a steering wheel, vs driving a car with just your mind with preprogrammed instructions

Taking the armour off is possible. It may not be practical in warzone/high risk environment. The implants are Black Carapace, basically Astrates/Armour interface. So the armour is like a second skin, felt and neurologically conected via the interface. The black underarmour is more "everyday" than a full ceramite plate and could do as protection in a pinch, but... Not ideal to fight in it. It is a kevlar vest to frontal armor of a Leopard tank. Still, on board of their battle barges, in transit between wars, those hulking monstrosities may chill and drink beer in their pants, sure... Albeit technically they do not have to remove their plate, as it has full body function support system built in. Some chapter may be less likely to do so, as they see the armour as a gift from the Emperor (not only Black Templars, but those have a sacred tradition of chaining their weapons to their armour, which makes removing it almost imposible...), other have complex cultural taboos regarding their kit (Carcaredones could kill a serf or lower ranking Astartes who did as much as touched their weapons by mistake)... The fact that Space Marines, while technically able to procreate, have a very low libido resulting from the Geneseed, makes for one less reason to remove the armour...

They can and do take their armor off. Sometimes it needs repair, sometimes it needs to be checked. But they don't have to take it off, since it feels less like an armor to them and more like another skin layer, thanks to neurological connection through The Interface (Black Carapace). They also technically don't need sleep, a good while back you reacted to space marine creation, it's mentioned that they can shut down parts of their brain at a time and it works like sleep. Also - why is the armor look scuffed and damaged? That's because it probably belonged to another astartes before, armors like that are not particularly easy to make and maintain, so if a space marine dies and his body is recovered they not only try to salvage the gene-seed organs, but also their equipment. Recycling, if you will.

the weight of a space marine with and without armor is extremely debated, canon is inconsistent between literature and rulebooks of the game (which contain lore also) most of us think the average space marine (not primaris) weights around 300kg, and the power armor should be around 350kg this is basic armor, not adding any weapons or extra shields of any sorts so, a space marine can reach running speeds of around 90km/hour now imagine being tackled by such a massive thing at such a high speed

space marines wear power armour when ever they feel like it... they even wear it for months or years, it has a waste disposal system but it needs to be manualy cleaned every now and then.

2:33 Original Human: Do they have to take it off every time they have a break? The Chapter Master: What is your duty? Space Marine: To Serve the Emporers will. The CM: What is the Emporer's Will? SM: That we fight and die. The CM: What is death? SM: It is our duty.

My god, going to a festival and needing a p##s or s##t is difficult enough wearing just normal clothing...... how the hell do you pass fluids etc in one of those. Rust issues no doubt.
@ethanjeffries7914
@ethanjeffries7914 2 года назад
That armour has systems to deal with bodily waste, space marines can spend extended periods of time in armour without Having to take it off. More over SM armour isn't made of traditional metals but ceramite, so rust isn't a issue

You asked if they keep the armor on all the time this is my own opinion from everything I've heard from the books I have personally read it depends on the Marine but for most of them they usually keep their armor on for almost their entire lives except for when they need to remove pieces for repairs in one of the books the space Marine acted like a night where he had his own personal crew to remove and reattach his armor
@piratehunter1

They can take the armor off, usually for repairs after the mission is over and they are in transit

Yes it plugs into the carapace which is a connection implanted when they become spacemarines.

So, does every Space Marine go through this process regardless of whether it's their first time putting on the armor or they're nth time? I'm still new to the universe so super curious. EDIT: is the omega symbol in this vid for Ultramarines? And does that make a difference in the process for putting on the armor at all?
@Centurion0419
@Centurion0419 2 года назад
@@tastyneck he is an ultramarine, every chapter does stuff different, but this seems like it would be a fairly standard suit up, I’m not sure how different he as a primaris would be different from a first born, but the ceremony and reverence this is marine is probably given for every one of them, as they are the angels of the god emperor. But in a pinch they would just throw the armour on while a tech priest preys and burns incense. If you have any other 40k questions I’m a huge nerd

What is a higher rank in a Astartes chapter, the chapter master or the primarch? Thank you brodie@Centurion0419
@fakerolnando
@fakerolnando 4 месяца назад
@@robb4thewin80 pretty late but Primarch is not really a rank. Its a tittle for the original 18...20..21 ( f*ck the lore ) big bad super human guys that the emperor made who in charge of their own legion which implanted the gene-seed from that Primarch After Horus Heresy the way space marine work changes and from legion which can goes up to hundred thoundsands unit per legion now break down to chapter which only have about 1000 space marines and led by a chapter master. Primarch kinda out of the space marine system now with the fact that most of them died / betray / flee with now we only have Gulliman which in charge of the whole Imperium and Lion who had just returned

In combat or on a campaign the suit can be worn for a day or for years, decades, even centuries in some instances. there's some self-cleaning on the inside (not much, but enough to take care of the funk and anything that could possibly make them sick) of the bodysuit next to their skin.
