Even before the internet people have always been fascinated with themselves.
We all know people who like to offer their unsolicited likes, dislikes, thoughts, feelings, opinions, and emotions.
These people always have a story, an anecdote, an opinion, or advice.
We listen to them share their personal hardships, their triumphs, their memories.
We listen to people's ideologies, viewpoints, assessments, and overviews.
Some of you are the talkers and some of you are the listeners.
Have you ever wondered why? Have you ever asked what all this is? What's really happening here?
What is the spiritual significance of all of this?
I answer this question and more in today's video.

Yes, dignity is so important as is a calm and peaceful attitude. Far too often I have found that I open up and talk about my story but others don't hear, they put their own spin on it and believe their version! I get frustrated and upset and wonder if I should just make up a story but I won't. Silence is the way to go without appearing aloof.

it's ok. You needed to talk. I get it. I did not find what I needed through expressing my feelings. People just can't give us what we need. We can't even figure it out. I came to the conclusion, unless I need a doctor or an ambulance. I may as well just live my life. I will respond to others in need. I actually feel good to help others. The reflection of others has not been helpful. it's ok.

Well, shortly: it was the end of our two days lasted aquaintance. I could not be happier! I thoughr: Finally, I have learned something! In addiction recovery we learn our secrets keep us sick and that sharing is what helps ourself and other people heal. It helps release shame and blocked emotions by activating the throat chakra. I’m also in talk therapy to help bring healing to the traumatic grief and loss of my daughter Kaylah and a lifetime of abuse where I used to remain silent. I think there should be balance in talking and silence like in every area of life.

You’re looking for a reason to disagree and hold on to your identity. She obviously is not teferring to silence in a therapy session. And if you actually are trying to convince yourself it is the same then it highlights the reason there is such a high percentage of relapse in addiction recovery. It’s because they try to use one area of codependency to help end dependency on something else. It never works long time because you have to detox from all areas of dependency in your life. We incorrectly think “codependency” is different than dependency on substances. It’s all codependency and if you leave ooen the bondage of dependency in just one area of your life you are guaranteed to eventually gain all codependency areas back. Even the seemingly harmless allowing the continued use of nicotine when trying to detox from a substance is comically misguided advice. You’re just transferring a dependency and solidifying your codependency nature.

I’ve been told all my life I’m so “quiet”. People don’t like those who are silent. I’m an introvert as well and like to talk to myself to sort through my thoughts and emotions. I validate MYSELF and not through other people. I think being silent is good but there’s nothing wrong with speaking your truth. Us quiet people are constantly talked over or ignored or people use us to unload their garbage and walk away. Energetic boundaries help as well with this. I think as long as you hear and see yourself you’ll never be dependent on others hearing you.

I've always been a naturally silent person people love to be around to share with me THEIR feelings, thoughts, emotions. I always end up drained and when I share MY thoughts, feelings and emotions, I discovered people don't understand them as they are too deep for them so I communicate online, through art and I remain silent. Many think I'm not important. It brings me peace, people reveal their true natures and I avoid listening to them for too long to not be drained by their negative energy. All I have to do is literally stop talking about myself - it's never worth it and people always betray us. Oversharing gives a little piece of us but people never see us for who we are but in theirs eyes. So we might remain silent as well.

A person never talking Can also be very heavy like a person who never stops talking. If you never talks, talk some more, if you always talk talk much Les. I soon realized that I did not yet have the words or a vocabulary to intelligently talk about my feelings or thoughts but soon learned how by listening to how seasoned others talked about their feelings & thoughts. I often used a thesaurus to find more & better words to describe my ongoing Reality. Over the years, I've noticed that many ppl cannot adequately talk about or describe their feelings & Reality. I've had to learn how to back off & talk about myself & my Reality less & less BUT, during group therapy, I really did need to talk A LOT about painful, frightening & unhappy events from the past.

When you listen to music there are notes and spaces(silence). To have continual silence is to have no music, but to have no silence you have a cacophony of noise. What joins the note and the silence perfectly is rhythm. Finding your own rhythm or beat will make your life harmonious, so allowing the silence and allowing action rather than artificially filling the spaces, or acting compulsively will lead to inner peace.
@catherinehamer5653

Yes…..but counting those complex and mathematically irregular silences are amongst the hardest for professional classical musicians. Rather like flocks of starlings or shoals of fish, we rely upon the reactions of fellow musicians to calibrate how our silence works within the music, we need the noise of others to find our place in the score.
@ianbirkinhead4103
@ianbirkinhead4103 Год назад
@@catherinehamer5653 it’s not complex if you find your own beat, without comparing it to others, or holding it for others to judge. Listen to your own heartbeat notice the spaces, listen to your own breathing. Just listen, and hear the rhythm, slow your breathing down and you will become still, allow the stillness to travel through your mind and body. I have been in silence for a long time due to past lives experiences where by sharing your truth would get you killed. Is important to both share and listen. That monkey mind is due to stress, toxic liver, adrenal problems, intestinal dysbiosis etc. If you wish to meditate and stop the chattering, you need to cleanse your body, balance the nutrients in your body and practice. Nature is one of the best places to meditate. When I first started meditating, it was a bit difficul because thoughts would appear. Eventually, I managed to quiet the mind with practice and frequency healing. Listening to fibonacci sequence and 963hz puts me into trance. Is important to share our knowlegde and experience as it adds more information to the table. Is not about competing who is right and wrong, is about expanding our consciousness and awareness by sharing our piece of the puzzle.

Beautifully said and thank you. I am more aware when I'm around, let's say, my co-workers, that I don't feel the need to talk all of the time. I use to try to think of things to say a lot, because the mind and mouth were more impulsive, and feeling uncomfortable with silence. It feels good to be silent around people and be calm...Yes, meditating can hugely help me and others to quiet down and be more mindful, more comfortable in every way. I don't want to be falling into every conversation with sensationalism, drama, or just any small talk. You do have more energy when you don't get yourself always involved in every conversation, and just try to stay thoughtful and silent.

I started eliminating my oversharing habit about two years ago and it took about 6 months for it to feel natural. A major benefit I found is holding happy thoughts as private little treasures for yourself to enjoy, unsullied by others. For example, if it's a beautiful morning and you share that observation with someone, they might be in a bad mood and snap, "What's so beautiful about it!" Whereas if you keep it to yourself, you can simply absorb and appreciate the beauty of the present moment, undisturbed. Now pleasant thoughts run through my head for a majority of the day and it's easy to be happy!

I have suffered from anxiety for most of my life. Staying silent whether on my own or with others has given me so much energy and calmness. Sometimes, in meetings, I retreat into my silence and just listen to the repetitive rubbish that other people sometimes talk while my energy and calmness grows. I feel so much happier and stronger in myself, having found this . Thank you.

By nature I am a quiet individual who doesn't talk about her experiences, feelings or opinions. Instead, I'm a natural listener. However, this, too, can be a trap, as I've spent a lifetime listening seriously to those who talk only about themselves. This leaves me feeling stale. Also, to feel part of society, I can deliberately join in with this and again, be left feeling unsatisfied. My answer to this is to enjoy being alone and - when mixing with people - choose those with similar interests to mine. To do creative work alongside those with a similar outlook is most fulfilling.

Silence is essential to have control over situations, sometimes. It helps us understand and take in what it is, and not getting carried away by emotions. Silence doesn’t only mean by words, but in mind as well. To silent the mind, one needs to observe their mind from a third person’s perspective. It helps clear out unnecessary thoughts. Silence is deeply rooted in our ancient spiritual practices, and a powerful tool to live a peaceful life ❤

Silence is a powerful tool; if your aim is to ‘investigate’ another. That said, one who is silent and never shares something about themselves will never receive empathy from another and as a result will find trust from others and indeed friends, hard to come by.
@Seamannon
@Seamannon 10 месяцев назад
True. We are a social species after all. We connect with others by sharing our personal experiences through stories and we build trust in relationships by being honest and vulnerable with eachother. Communication skills are very important for close relationships and silent people can be judgemental too, they just don't express their resentments openly, so they are prone to bottling up negative thoughts and blowing up with anger at times, which can also be very toxic to others and to themselves, causing psychosomatic issues in the long run. People who are too silent in social situations can appear aloof and cold, emotionally disconnected, avoidant, dishonest, passive agressive, lacking empathy, selfish or creepy and so on... Everything has a shadow. We can only progress spiritually once we are aware of that and ready to make concious choices by appling this awareness to our everyday actions.

I changed and began speaking up, now I feel much more emotional turmoil since every word one speaks may result in negative karma. It's fascinating to now understand that I was doing it right all along, but unfortunately listened to unwise people in order to "fit in". Honor the elders. I spent five weeks on native reservation in Northern Canada. People would invite me in, and i would practice what i was taught, never speak first. . We would sit in silence. And when they spoke, it was softly. That is in sharp contrast to non indigenous people. I learned to wait for the spirit of the group to come naturally. Not to force conversation. We are all born indigenous or human Beings. But we become human Doings and become lost in space, the space of our thoughts. I remember wondering why " you should not talk first to Elders " After spending much time observing their teachings. I believe now it is because they are in a meditative state. Praying for you, for the ancestors giving gratitude that you have come into their presence. Grateful for the medicine you bring. Praying for your ancestors. Patiently waiting for the spirit to guide them and the conversation. Only with silence can you meet the creatures of the forest of your mind. Learn to honor the elders and they will share with you great wisdoms.....thank you for sharing this video and your wisdom .

In silence we get to hear and input information. It's incredible what we can hear, our own thoughts, feelings, emotions and the energy of others. That way we can become aware and stop being puppets of impulses and reactions, but rather speak with aligned intention. Here's another tip: when speaking with others, ask them questions and be curious about their experience.

THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WISDOM - YES, SOME THINGS ARE MEANT 2B SHARED BECAUSE THEY PROMOTE WELLNESS, OTHERS BEST 2B KEPT UNDER WRAPS!! When I taught school, I seemed to be the ONLY teacher, who practiced "Listening to the Sound of Silence" & from KG to 12th grades (when I subbed too) the lot of kids seemed to cooperate & take a keen interest in doing so. I would watch them in the beginning, to commend some on their listening skills, and correct others on their cheating (😘!?) and then join them for another minute. We'd start with a minute of hands on desk, sitting up straight, closing eyes, and listening to the sounds (usually the cooling or heating that was on, sometimes the teacher & students in the next class/es) Kids would be amazed at their ability to hear what they never noticed before, and they'd often WANT to do it "Again, Yesss"!?) I practice listening to my body - That comes with practice & mindfulness, and listening to the sound of silence is a wonderful prep. "If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won't have to hear it scream" It's healthy & OH SO BENEFICIAL!! Namaste from USA🙏!!

I'm the person who talks too much. Not extremely and nonstop, but too much. I want to change it since years, but I failed. Elizabeth, your explanation is the first one, which really gives me hope. There is much sense and meaning in it, this might help me. Just one thing: generally I'm an observer and recognizer. This is one of my strong abilities. I do not feel, that my talkativeness has some negative impact to my observation. But, maybe I'm wrong. Could be, my mental skill gets stronger, when I reduce my talking. Your lecture makes sense to me. I found out, that I enjoy teaching people, because I want to make their lives better and easier. That's why I became educational designer. So I observe and feel, that part of my talkativeness is not about myself and for getting attention, but for making people understand and learn things. But yes, if I receive confirmation for that, it gives me energy.

I want to make a small note here. Not everyone is trained to handle silence. Most people start thinking about a lot of negative stuff and ruminating when they are silent. To enjoy silence you have to be in complete peace with your mind. You shouldn't associate yourself with your thoughts and emotions. Practice this during meditation. Whatever thoughts you get just observe these thoughts without judgement. Don't label the thoughts as good or bad. Let the thoughts just flow. Just be aware. When you become an expert in doing this, you will notice that the frequency of thoughts will reduce. This is when you will truly experience the beauty of silence. It is Bliss. 😊

As a naturally quiet person (compared to most), I loved this video. While I would never give up the times in my life when I have found my voice or shared it and made an impact with my words and music, silence has always been a reliable friend. If I'm not clear on how I feel about something, I often just keep quiet and wait and see...most things sort themselves out or become clear on their own. Words are often a distraction from the feelings we need to let ourselves feel (which may be emotions or tapping into the energy of others, as you so eloquently noted here). Thank you for speaking to the value and power of silence, and how it can be an intelligent choice. ❤

Thank you. I stumbled onto this in 1990 as the result of a Gift Of Desperation and forgiving a woman that I had unkind thoughts about. At first I didn't know what it was other than God, I eventually found out that it was a non-dual mystical experience that I never expected to have or happen. I won't go into a lot of stories but it forced me to reevaluate everything "I" thought "I knew" because "I" knew nothing. I ran across a couple of A Course in Miracles teachers, and what they said fits the paradigm of what I experienced. I'm generally a quiet person even on Facebook, and lately, I've been noticing a few about myself that you brought up in your video about opinions and just being silent about them I feel that it would be pointless to respond to anything other than my Course teachers and friends. When I'm out and about, I spread kindness into a world that desperately needs it. Gratitude 🙏🙏🙏

Yes the ancient practice of MAUNA - being in silent from time to time is much needed on this planet. Using technology has created an external silence yet we continue to 'talk' silently through our minds while using technology. Self-inquiry Meditation practice (to inquire within) is a necessary tool in our daily lives. When practised daily the balance naturally occurs & becomes evident through self-awareness of when to apply silence & when to talk outwardly. 🙏🕉

Good observation. Recently I have observed that there are some people who have learned how to speak and listen simultaneously. This is a remarkable skill they can use in group conversations. Unfortunately the quality of both the talking and the listening suffers in this effort. The talking becomes, simply, a way to "hold the floor" in the discussion, and they are merely "playing back" their "pre-recorded" spiel while watching and listening for possible interlopers, whom they can shut down as soon as they see any person trying to interject. If you have two or more of these people at a gathering the discussion tends to crumble into several conversations while the volume increases. Some would regard this as a "lively conversation." But there is not really much to learn there. We need more people who know how to listen effectively.

Interesting and challenging. I live alone but long for connection. I don’t spend much time with other people and definitely feel a deep urge to talk and feel heard when I am with them. I have been involved in meditative practices for years but have not felt that it assuaged this desire. In fact, haven’t we been taught that sharing our experiences is what creates intimacy and connection? The idea that I should expect even less from interaction is actually frightening. But I see there is something to the idea that since I am not the body, the mind of thoughts, or feelings, communicating about them is a kind of reinforcing of identification with them. I don’t know if anyone in my meditative community who has as few close friends/relationships as I do so I have no models for this kind of detachment AND thriving. Lack of connection is often associated with poor health outcomes. But I guess I am not my health, either. I know the spiritual path can involve what feels like a death and this certainly feels frightening to me, that I might need to push off from this mooring.

Talking, sharing perspectives allows people to know what you accept and what you dont. Your moral values, etc... It also forces you to STAND ON WHAT YOU SAY! Its been my method to decode many situations and people. Some people, are not wired this way so they share their ways as if its the best way when its just THE BEST WAY FOR THEM. THANK you for putting this out there - I hope people learn to practice this & make it a way of life. NOT everything needs to be aired & shared (Donald Trump & Flock/Klan, listen up!?) Mainly because what you might consider worth sharing, is actually polluting another's serenity &/or space, and is at times, UNhealthy!! This goes for our troubles, our sexual preferences, our experiences, etc. Yes, venting does help, but venting to total strangers, some who might not only take offence but also mean you harm is not sensible or wise!! Sometimes sharing what your religious, political stance & gender or sexual preferences are, feels like tooo much info., &/or I don't need to know that, wrong choice of person, some one else perhaps, pleeeease😑!? (Some cultures like to keep their private lives private, and feel ashamed of their or family flaws - Unlike others who air & share to get rid of the stench!?) However, I've found whenever I'm deliberately quiet, that I'm more mindfully present and can observe the actions and behaviors of others. I am also more aware of my inner thoughts and feelings and how they drive my anxious feelings and emotions. I'm more present with others and more present with my surroundings. It increases my sense of calmness and inner peace, as well as lowers my BP. Yet I need to practice silence on a daily basis, and I still am challenged by this. Thank you for your insightful video.
