this video is better/newer on this topic area: • The Single MOST Powerf...
VIDEO OUTLINE: docs.google.com/document/d/1a...
-Basic Info
The larynx, pronounced, Lair-Enks, is the muscular, mucosal chamber which your vocal folds reside in. The position of the larynx can be altered through various muscle groups. When the larynx is raised, the vocal folds are positioned closer to the lips, which shortens the overall vocal tract length and shifts the resonances higher (creates a brighter sound). When the larynx lowers, the vocal tract extends, shifting the resonances lower (darker sound). It’s essential to use a higher larynx position when seeking to pass with a female voice.
-General Ideology
There are several ways to approach learning to alter the larynx height. Most of the best solutions all use a variation of Noise + Filter in order to hear the resonance more clearly, then trying to speak or sing using the filter setting. In the video and link there is simple infographics and audio examples to help walk you through it. The goal, at first, should be to gain control of this variable then integrate it into the process of speech once it’s properly heard, controlled, and executed.
-Common Issues:
1. Flipping into falsetto immediately
2. Altering towards a more forward tongue position instead of raising the larynx.
3. Raising too high and getting a choked or “fluttery” sound
4. Tensing the neck muscles instead of allowing the correct muscles to perform the motion
5. Squeezing the vocal folds too hard
6. Not listening
I hope this is helpful for many of you out there! I’ve seen so much confusion and struggle relating to the larynx so I hope this can illuminate some confusion. There is a lot more to know, explore, and fully digest but I wanted to keep this first video simple, clear, and easy to follow. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments below. Part 2 will contain advanced info, more ear training, and spectral data!
warmly,
Amelia Zheanna H.

So do you basically keep up doing these exercises to make the feminine voice your natural voice or are there some other steps? I'm just starting with trying to make my voice sound feminine while I wait for HRT. P.S. This may sound weird but where did you buy that top? It looks really cute and i'd really want to buy it.

Each person will require different pieces of technique. There are many other elements and even this video itself is a simplification of something larger in order to be easier to consume as a viewer (R1 movement). I will expand much deeper on all of these things once I can lay all the foundations on my channel. Just in general here are a few parameters to consider for voice: pitch, pitch contour, consonant modification, vowel modification, embouchure, nasal modification, dynamic control, glottal quotient, Most of what we do for sound can be thought of as: R1 control, R2 control, interdependence between them, the source controls (vocal fold and air stuff), and the lips. This allows us to create a female sized instrument (resonating chamber) and create the same vocal fold conditions--thus female tone. Beyond that there is further nuance in control, behavior, dynamics, consistency, etc. :o

Finally, a tutorial on vocal feminisation that isn't just a person throwing a bunch of buzzwords at you in hopes that you understand. I really love the fact that you break down the science of the human voice and give us a straightforward exercise that we can easily follow. I know it's only the second episode but I feel like I'm already making progress. I think the best part about this is that it's free. You managed to get every single aspect of the video straight on point, the looks, the sound of it, infographics, scenery, and, most importantly, the actual content, which is BEYOND what I've ever seen, heard, or read anywhere out on the internet. it doesn't feel like an informative video from someone with 5K subscribers, it feels more like a really high-quality production by a big company. Thank you so much for being around and sharing your knowledge in such a unique and helpful way with all of us, you clearly have the perfect skillset to make stuff like this, and I hope that you are able to get a larger following base, you not only deserve it but also basically every Transwoman out there struggling with their voice would immensely benefit from your videos, as almost every other video out there on this topic is more a overview or a story than a tutorial.

Thank you SO much, seriously. This comment has totally made my day. When I sought out to make this video I really wanted to create a, "Gesamtkunstwerk" (total work of art). That will continue to be my style. I'm really happy with how the interludes of my soul music play against the video. I finally see a great way to combine my passion for music with my passion for voice education! Do them both at the same time! Haha. I am so flattered by your wonderful words. While I may just be one individual, my service TransVoiceLessons has grown quite massive. I'm booked up until November for lessons at this point and I'm starting my company: Internal Bioacoustics. I really want to change the way the world interacts and understands what "voice" is. I'm blessed to be able to help other transpeople heal their dysphoria and self actualize. this reply is all over the place but I just wanted to get some thoughts off about what you said.
@theaninova
@theaninova 5 лет назад
@@TransVoiceLessons That is brilliant, to see once in a while a passion project of someone with real talent work out. I am one of the people who believe that in order to learn something it is immensely important to understand the underlying principles and not just apply pre-determined techniques without knowing why they work, because if you do that and you ever find yourself stuck with a problem, chances are you have no idea how to solve it. And that is what makes your channel so different, you don't just say "do this and then that will happen", you explain "This is how that part works, this is a general principle that applies to everything, so we can exploit it in this way by doing that.". Two more things, until you talked about your FFS, I still wasn't sure if you were cis or trans, I just couldn't tell. Seeing those amazing results gives me a lot of confidence as I believe that the voice is what makes or breaks your ability to pass, and I wouldn't have guessed in a million years that you were trans. Then also, your English is absolutely flawless, I thought you were a native speaker and couldn't hear an accent (and I am german myself), so ein gutes Englisch habe ich selten von jemand Deutschem gehört. Gesamtkunstwerk is a very fitting word, it definitely shows where you put in little details, the short music at the right places, the overall color scheme and art style, layout, structure, everything fits together like a charm. Keep up the amazing work, I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for the next part in the series!

3 years old, the very last video of the series that I watched, and this video still helped me immensely. Specifically it helped me pull out the larynx control, disengage it my r1 movements more from I think my r2. I can feel it in the way my strain went from 3/10 to 1/10, in the way my resonance isn't so tightly tied to the way I was shaping my vowels, and in the way that it actually sounds more cleanly feminine even without considering vocal weight. So thank you for approaching the topic from so many different directions with so many clean examples.

Darling, this video is spectacular and I cannot wait to see what else you have to share with the rest of the community! I've been practicing for more than a year, and even after going to speech therapy my progress has been...insufficient, let's say. This alone called me out on no less than three bad habits, and by the end I had produced a sound that made me weep with joy. You are a gift to the world. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I've started transitioning about 1,5 years ago. Actually went to a gender voice therapist the first few months. But it got nowhere. And I've developed massive voice dysphoria to the point I don't really talk at all outdoors. This is day 3 of me trying again and this is the first video I really understood. The exercises are greatly simplified. Which I just love. I hope you'll do more video's like this (I'll look at your channel more thoroughly once I feel I've mastered this a bit.) I'm Dutch myself. But I feel like I sound much smoother and use different parts of my mouth when I speak English. It's a bit higher pitched as well. Would it be weird to practice this in English? Or should I stick to my more masc Dutch voice? Thanks for this so far!
@TheVladdracula1
@TheVladdracula1 2 года назад
The reply is a bit late but oh well XD Different languages use different parts of the throat and mouth for most of their sounds. For example I can speak both German and Russian and I have a deeper voice when speaking russian as well. You could try speaking Dutch with an English accent as an experiment. It will sound weird as hell but also less masc

I stopped my transition a good few years ago... for a few reasons but one was that i was under the impression that there really wasn't anything i could do about my voice, that if i were to sound female it would always sound fake. I've got a bit of vocal work experience and in a 14 minute video you just completely smashed my understanding of the voice. I... I dunno if i'll go back to a full transition but... this still is a comfort to me. so thank you. for this work you do.
