Love the cop in the interview, “ I can’t give you that.” Gets asked another question, “I can’t give you that either.” Reporter “What can you give us?” Cop “Just what I gave ya.”
I know right. I love him too. It seems like when the reporter asked “what can you give us?” It seems like he wants to say “just what I gave you, obviously! Duh” lol

Julia Law for some reason I’m not getting notifications, which is annoying. On the other hand, the episode just showed up in my sidebar, which is a nice surprise. So I noped on out of a decluttering vid quicker than you can say “Mike”! Glad to hear someone else is spreading the gospel according to That Chapter. I’ve introduced a few people, but it’s frustrating that they don’t live near me. It’s frustrating not to have someone to talk to about the episodes, but at least you’ve found a new use for a husband!(JK)
That's what I love about this whole channel. The subject matter is usually dark and scary, but he manages to break it up with a few lighter notes. And probably just his voice/accent/way of speaking is comforting. I have to take breaks from other death/horror related channels and watch some fun videos every so often. Not the case with Mike!
Yup! The swift justice is what they seek, rather than the actually truth. In the country with most police pr captia, and yet there are so many of Mikes videos where you see so bad policeing. (Ok Canda take the lead on this....)
Wtf? The cop was holding a gun to his head in a confession room?? Are you kidding me? Man! This channel phenomenal I swear every story just gets crazier and crazier and ends up somewhere I didn’t see coming
My heart broke when it's explained Amy is found seperate as she was still alive after having been shot, was shot again and still alive so dragged herself away from her 3 dead friends and tried to escape the fire...she was 13.

@Your Mother it's fast becoming that way here in the USA. Countless stories of people defending themselves getting charged just in past 2 weeks. It's ludicrous that criminals have more rights then law abiding citizens
As a life long resident of Austin, TX I was 15 years old when this happened. It is the worst unsolved murder case in the history of our city. From the beginning the police sabotaged the investigation. Not only is the story completely tragic but also horrifying and creepy. The way these girls were tortured and killed in front of one another. I will never forget these beautiful girls or their families.
Go hit up a bank. Leave those girls alone. It's just a yogurt spot. It's just like the Lane Bryant case. There's no money there. Seems like a hit in both cases
Hopefully they all got caught up in the opioid epidemic and shot themselves in their respective heads in front on their immediate families. That sounds fair.
I wonder how many false confessions they obtained in their careers? Those detectives should be in jail or at the very least be fired and never allowed in any position of "authority" again.

I lived across the country, but this case hits home because in December, 1991 I was also 17 years old. At that age, I thought I was invincible and nothing bad could happen to me, I even put myself in risky situations. I’m so sorry for these girls who were innocent and I hope one day there is justice. Forcing a case to be closed isn’t justice, it’s a notch on the wall
I got my first job in 1992 at a yogurt store..and remember being terrified by this case. When I worked at night and every time the door opened, my heart jumped. RIP girls. so sorry this happened to you
Preach it gurl, we gotta count our blessings. This happens all too often. Im not saying quadruple no-connection-to-the-victims homicides are common, they are not, but many single female homicides are with victims working as night clerks alone. Or maybe they arent as common as I think and I have just been binge watching murders of that specificity so it feels common. Glad your safe Jen P.
The thing about coercing (gun to the head) or torturing (throwing pepper solution in someone's eyes) for a confession is that you are either doing 1 of 2 things: Punishing an innocent person to get them to admit to something they didn't do, OR you invalidate the confession of someone who might have actually done it. Don't get confessions under duress.
True, but I don't think cops like this care about things like that. They just care about making it look like they're getting results, and getting paid.
@@reignman30 they would've been paid regardless. they just had let's say russian mentality and should have been in jail instead. often they think they have the right guy, but their thinking is flawed to begin with as they're idiots and didn't pay attention in school.
Kim Harrington I can definitely understand that. I imagine it’s like the clock tower shooter back in the 60s... which is also from Austin, Texas. Jesus.
I remember when this happened. Ominous, especially if you were a girl with a retail job. That there were 4 of them together made it clear that even in groups, you are not safe. Thanks Mike!
I hadn’t even thought of it like that. 😢 *FOUR YOUNG WOMEN* probably weren’t _worried_ about two creepy guys for the same reason their parents probably were okay with them closing up at night… *Yet after this they probably realized that there wasn’t anything that* _even 6 of them_ *could do when facing 2 guys with guns …and no respect for life.*
tell me about it ..I have a stalker that stalks my now former workplace ( first night free) I was closing up a laundromat go in at 930pm come out at 10:45pm. Alone, with all the lights on me directly in front of the biggest/main highway in town. Boss knew I had a stalker, I put in my ONE MONTH'S notice on march 2nd 2022 and couldn't leave that job until last night (6/21/22) because no one could be found to take my place. I could have gotten killed, I think thats why Im watching this. I wish these girls had called the cops when those men didn't leave when asked. Im not victim blaming, Im coming at it from experience, it took me one year to finally call the cops in 2021, when I finally did, they were displeased I didnt call before. I hope they find their killers one day so their families can have closure.
If you sprayed cayenne pepper water into their eyes or held a gun to their head, you probably could get them to confess. Problem being you still wouldn't know which one really did it.
This happened a year after I graduated high school. I'm almost 50 yo now. To hear stories like this being unsolved is saddening. Thinking on it too long will drive you mad. There's nothing you can do, because life is so unfair.
I understand that those detectives were desperate, but they cant force ppl to make false confessions. More than 50 false confessions? Thats crazy and scary.
I wonder if they had their DNA ran. Seems odd to go that far in forcing confessions, almost as if they need someone to burn for the crime so they can remain free.
@@LoriCrabtree31 my first though watching this was why do the police not want a confession? This seems like a good way to cover up the real killer by focusing interest on a set-up victim because even if eventually cleared, this type of thing ends the investigation with a “we got ‘em”.
Seeing the kids in the school after this horrific crime brings back painful memories from having to go through the same experience when I was in elementary school. No child should ever have to deal with the loss of a friend and classmate like this.
I live about two blocks from where that happened. I was hoping that you would cover this one eventually! The detectives would rather innocent kids go to jail than have an unsolved murder case. Disgusting.
Vomit Pinata I haven’t completed the video yet but when this happens it’s purely pressure from the victims families and the ego of the detectives. Super sad to see the consequences. Humans are just crazy interesting.
Unfortunately, that's how some pigs operate. Where I live , 3 guys served about 8 years in prison for murdering a prostitute after coercing a confession out if one of them , who had an IQ of about 40. The Cardiff 3, they became known as. The real culprit got caught years later, after they were pardoned and received hefty compensation. His brother got caught stealing and subsequently had his DNA taken. The DNA matched to the real killer. The guys brother, some weird fucker from Bridgend
I live in Austin and I will never forget this, I was just starting my family. All these years later I now have grown children and those poor girls had their lives cut short. Watching the arrests year after year was like watching musical chairs. I feel horrible for those parents. I hope the find peace.
Every time I see stuff with young girls or young women on this channel, I struggle with not putting my own daughters' faces on the victims. They're still young, 9 and 6, but the older one is starting to get to that age that is heavily targeted. I'm gonna end up overprotective if I keep watching this stuff. . .
Its sad that theres more unsolved cases than solved. They say some are chalked up to someone running away and dont wanna be found. I'd say its lazy police work and shitty laws the detectives have to follow to get evidence. They collect something wrong and it may be the evidence they need to get answers and they can't use it because the paperwork had a misspelled word. Our justice system is so ass backwards. You know when a drug dealer gets more time than a child rapist we have an issue. Not to mention all the sex offenders that were convicted before the law where they have to register themselves just running free and undetected. Then you have all the crimes not reported. I hate going to stores and seeing the board where all the missing people flyers are. Its sad because you can look at them and say without a doubt in your heart most of them arent even with us anymore.
Dude please...just stop murdering folk d'ya know what i mean? Every lil bit helps..as ghandi once said 'be the change in the world you wanna see'.. ; )
There's a book called "Who Killed These Girls?" by Beverly Lowry that I recommend if you want more details on this case. It talks about how badly the police handled this case. I mean, they left a piece of evidence out behind the yogurt shop and somehow were surprised that it was gone when they came back.
Thank you for covering this, Mike. One of my earliest memories was of news coverage on this case. These girls deserve justice and their families need closure. I was four when this happened and devastated this whole city, and now I have kids close to the age of the youngest victim. I can't imagine how hard it has been on the families to go so long without answers. I really hope some day they can find them.
Inside job. Only people that can get away with murder are the ones who are cops at the time. They control the case. Get and know how to get rid of evidence.
@@holyfreeholy2329 i to assume i know everything and say dumb shit like it was a inside job by the police when i havent even finished high school and everything in my life subtly tells me im retarded
There's another possibility. Perhaps they weren't inept, but were protecting the person(s) they knew who was really guilty, like perhaps one of their own, and simply were desperate to create patsies that looked just guilty enough that even if they were never convicted, would keep attention off the real culprit(s).
@@MsTAXITAXI 50 false confessions and at least one involved torturing a suspect until he admitted he did it, another where a gun was held to the suspects head... if you cant admit that's police misconduct and ineptitude then I guess you're blinded by your boner for cops.
Something is telling me the girls being stacked on top of each other is a huge clue. I don't think a group of teenage boys would have the forethought to do something like that. That is a tactical move, and I'm shocked the witness saying they saw a man in army fatigues acting weird was essentially ignored.
i was a a teenager then. Weren't there a lot of people running around in army castoffs? I thought the crime scene seemed disorganized and the 'robbery' didn't seem very professional, not in terms of getting a good payoff for the crime. But I find it interesting that you think stacking the bodies points to a military background
@@intrepidtomato stacking the bodies itself doesn't make me think it was done by someone with military training, it's an indication, however, that whoever did this had the forethought to do it, and knew how to do it quickly. It appears to be tactical in how it was carried out, but for what i don't know. That, coupled with the witness's account of a man in military fatigues acting strangely made me think that perhaps authorities should have attempted to track that person down a little more than they did. I also find it deeply disturbing that "stacking bodies" is a common phrase used in the military to discuss someone's kill count...
Never, ever participate in an interrogation without any legal counsel. Repeated Intimidation, coercion and threats can wear anyone down, and this case illustrates that. And as horrific as the crimes are, and as desperately investigators want it solved, the above interrogation tactics have no place in any circumstance. May this case ultimately be solved for the victims and their families' sakes.
True. The detective are never trying to help you, they're just trying to out someone behind bars and sometimes they get it really wrong. Protect yourself and lookout for yourself. Legal counsel is your right.
On the flip side, if you are an interrogator, never ever use interrogation tactics that are going to cause the confession to get thrown out if they are discovered. There are people who are innocent that will confess to make it stop, there are also people who are guilty who will confess to make it stop, and then recant later when they realized they can get out of it now because of over zealous interrogators. It ruins the Integrity of the case whether the person is guilty or innocent
Jesus yes. I've learned this from EVERY true crime show. Detectives mostly just want to close cases and be heroes. It's not even just that they're not your 'friends' - they're flat out dis-interested in you as a human. Bottom line is there is NO benefit to giving up your right to silence. If you're innocent, it won't get you out (most likely they will lead you into saying stupid shit). If youre guilty saying nothing just gives the cops more room to fuckup. Get a good lawyer!!! NEVER AGREE TO AN INTERROGATION!!!
UHM...……. theres photos of interrogation officers pointing a gun against the head of one of the confessors...………..later the cop states he was only kidding and the gun was empty
Kay that’s always what I think about: when did they realize something was wrong? What were they thinking? What did they last say? Who did they think of? It most be hard for the families not knowing what happened when there are no survivors to tell the story. Everyone wants closure.
fraz what the hell? Why are you trying to make a political statement because we’re discussing the death of 4 girls? You just jumped to a conclusions we wouldn’t feel the same way about boys? What?
fraz two people with guns came in and raped four children and shot them execution style and that’s horrifying and I can’t imagine how scared those kids were. Better? Gender isn’t the point. They were kids. How can you even try to make an argument it was 4 on 2? They. Had. Guns.
If you Google Map the strip mall and go around to the back alley, the back door to that unit is open. It's creepy af. It backs up to a creek, easy for people to quickly get away without being seen.
Thanks for posting this. I’m an Austin native and I remember when this happened. Those girls were just a few years younger than me. The latest on the DNA is that a match from distant relative was found in Florida by the FBI, but mind you, the number of the other men who could be related is vast. At this time the FBI can’t share with APD the info. Keep up the good work, Mike. I watch your videos almost every day.
That “thing” they supposedly knew that wasn’t released to the public is actually now public information. I saw someone else cover it and I think it’s possibly in the interrogation tapes . It’s that the keys were left in the lock of the front door. As in when you start closing procedure and people are still in the store finishing up eating or shopping you go and lock the front door so no more people come in. Then you walk and unlock it to let them out. I think it’s the creep at the party store next door. He said didn’t hear gunshots but was there next door working that night. Someone else called the fire department but he was next door and didn’t smell the smoke? Yeah, right. My bets are he got in through the attic crawl space that is often open with simple drop ceilings. He dropped into the place and set the fire to cover it up. He can always claim insurance damages to his business too. The $500 was staged for motive.
Given the cops coerced a confession, I figured they told the kids whatever they wanted them to know. I do not trust their suspicions at all! Yours sound more plausible!
The attic crawlspaces are supposed to have firewalls between the buildings, so that the fire doesn't spread and destroy the entire structure, but who knows, we didn't build it or sign off on the inspection.
Barney from the party store. DNA should have matched him. back door was unlocked, no need. I think the ones who did it came in thru the back or were already in the shop waiting out the last customers (croft and the 2 couples). I do think that the robbery was secondary to the rape/brutalization/murders for sure.
I love how you have a perfect comedic approach to these videos, you don't say anything to offend to make light or brush off the seriousness of what your talking about but you still manage to make it a fun approach to a serious topic...smiles hide pain and makes it easier to watch the video without the depression that comes with watching these vids
Even if you hadn't showed detective holding gun to his head. Those interviews felt off to me & i felt the officers were leading them into saying the right thing to make it sound like they had done it
I wonder how many false confessions they obtained in their careers? Those detectives should be in jail or at the very least be fired and never allowed in any position of "authority" again.
There was a lot of pressure surrounding the case to get arrests as it one the most brutal murder cases in Austin and still is to this day. Emotions were running high and unfortunately the guys doing the interrogations let their emotions get the best of them which is something a police officer should never do. I would imagine some of those officers have little girls of their own and it was probably incredibly difficult to block that out, especially because they knew they were guilty.

It's really sad when detectives choose the forced confession method, because it's either putting innocent men in jail, or giving murders a get out of jail free card.

The more murders they solve, the more arrests they make, the more money the city makes, the more they make... that's why there so many crooked cops, even up to the court levels it's all in their favor. One time a cop thought I stole with a friend at a store. Felonies, they had video evidence of me realizing my friend was stealing, but the cop already wrote his side of the story down. I went to court 6 times within 2 years each time,it'd be in their favor. 1 st they "lost" my interview recording. Then they "lost" the security footage of me walking away...all because a cop wouldn't say "hey I assumed he stole, he didnt, hes innocent" instead, the city doubles down to not let anyone know the officer did wrong or made a mistake. Luckily I got a judge with heart. Seen the case and threw it out within 5 mins after reading it
Here it is April 2024 and good old MIKE is still at it ! And I have to say since I found his channel little over a year ago he is one of MY FAVORITES!?!?!
I remember when this happened. I only lived 30 minutes away. I would have been 8. What I remember the most was one family losing two daughters at the same time. AWFUL.
Seeing all those kids crying at school really got to me. When you're young and you get hit with the realization that the world is an ugly, scary place, it turns your life upside down. I was sitting in my seventh grade class when the towers were hit. Our teachers turned on the news and we all sat there in confused silence, listening to our teachers sob while absorbing what the hell was happening. So many kids wanted to know why would someone would do this? Why are people bad or evil? Everyone goes through it at some point in their life, some kids a LOT earlier than others, but it's still hard to watch.
My Aunt was the manager of an I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt Shop about the same time a couple hours away. She always closed up because she didn’t like her younger employees alone at that time of the night - shops in this chain was usually located in strip malls since the rent was cheaper than a regular mall, so most of the other businesses closed by 5:00 pm. My Aunt always worried about closing up and would call my uncle before and after she was done. My uncle or one of her older kids often dropped in when she was closing to check on her. She left this job soon after the Austin murders.
I read that the owners and employees of the nail salon that currently occupies the yogurt shop building maintain a memorial for the girls. The police really screwed this one up. Maybe there’s still some hope that it can be solved.
Even if it's never solved , God knows who did it, and they will have to face Him when their turn will come, and that's worst than ANY death row conviction, trust me !!
Mike’s voice and charming accent is comforting while we listen to the horrifying deaths of kids. Thanks for all you do man. I don’t want any innocent person going to prison. We have an imperfect system.

I work in this strip center now. Living in Austin I've heard about this murder before but didn't realize it was here until after I started working here. There's a plaque in the parking lot for them. There's a creek area that's usually dark at night so I could totally see how someone could've forced themselves in. The creek is also a good spot that a lot of homeless people stay in/around. Not sure what it was like around then. But there's evidence of an old fence that has since been torn down

As I understand what I looked up given the circumstances and the DNA science at the time, they don't have the full DNA info, but just some "tags" that could apply to a lot of people. Though I hope, especially with a lot of cases being solved through those Geneology records now, that they can figure something out, I have my doubts if it's possible.
