I lived right behind this bowling alley until I was 25. I was 19 when this happened and still remember it like it happened yesterday. The aftermath of this was insane and they questioned everyone, including myself who was waken up from people running behind our house around the time of shooting, and my little sister who cut across the bowling alley parking lot to drive onto Solano on her way to take her SAT’s that morning. She didn’t see anyone or hear anything. It was such a horrific time that still haunts me to this day.

Yep, I almost fast-forwarded towards the end. Just about hit the limits of what I can take. I serve as a volunteer Catholic minister at one of the big hospitals downtown. I've seen many many patients in various degrees of suffering. It's never "easy", but those are adults. Dealing with sick kids is something else entirely. A child suffering in pain is...intolerable for me. Can't say I cried, but that 911 call tore me up pretty deep. Hardest thing I've watched in a while.

I’m a grown man whom most would describe as pretty tough and generally stoic, definitely not outwardly effected by even the most emotionally distressing things. I’ve never cried at a funeral though, I’ve been to many for loved ones I was very close to and was very sad to lose. With that said, I’m not ashamed to admit that as I listened to this during work and had to go to the bathroom because the sound of that young girl being so brave and tough and generally calm, despite obviously being very scared and very badly injured, as she answered all the operators questions really brought me to uncontrollable tears. I wished I could have been there to help her. Melissa was a true hero. I’m still feeling it.

There are some pretty bad 911 calls out there. This one was sad, and of course the incident itself is disturbing, but it's not as nerve-wracking as some of the ones I've heard. One that'll always stay with me was Christopher Rains' call. The POS shot his infant baby in the face with a .45 right in front of the mother as he held her, all because the child's mother didn't want to be with him and admitted to seeing another man. Rains had actually asked her if she'd seen the other guy's junk, FFS, either shortly or immediately prior to murdering the child. Then he dropped the baby on the floor and told her, "I hope it was worth it." He then immediately called 911 and confessed everything, sounding for the most part remorseful but also spending a lot of the call whining that he was going to jail for the rest of his life, and saying that he was going to kill himself. There are a few points where you can hear the child's mother wailing in the background, and it's truly heartbreaking. The 911 operator was amazing, though. She was able to speak to that POS like she actually cared about his life, and she had the most compassionate understanding tone as she told him not to hurt himself or anyone else. She was not only a consummate professional, but also an angel.

Thank you Mike for speaking with a normal voice. So many of these RU-vidrs that cover mysteries use this fakey creepy droning voice that drops down low at the end of every sentence, and it drives me crazy. Also, they cannot seem to construct a grammatically correct sentence, which is also very distracting. Your presentation is MUCH better, and you know how to speak clearly and also speak in correct sentences. Jo George. I’m not a squeamish person but hearing the little girl wheezing in the background when she’s taking a deep breath is hard to hear.

Jo George she’s so brave. I’m 24 and I don’t think I’d be able to handle that situation as well as she did

Shot 5 times and wants to fight the fire. Brilliant, brave soul. I hope she lives the incredible life she deserves. She's an Avenger for sure.

The fact the police let the van w/ lots of cash just drive away w/o taking any info down is just incompetent.

Yeah, and why not take pictures of them and see if the girl from the bowling alley can identify them.

@@holversonmusic3141 Because if you take pictures of someone you think is the suspect and show it to a victim you’ve tainted the investigation.

@@dant4786 thats why they show victims/witnesses a LINEUP of photos, including the suspect. They obviously couldn’t pick them out of a lineup. Probably said something to the effect of “none of these are them” So, they had to let those suspects go.

I managed to keep it together until while shot, bleeding out and in unbelievable pain, the little girl asked for them to come quickly for her mommy. That broke me. I really do hope that wonderful little girl Melissa went on to have good life and was able to get over this horrendous crime as much as anyone can.

Bert Pineapple really? That's...wow. I don't have children but I felt this girl's pain. I can't imagine how much worse it is when you have a child yourself.

The 911 call by the 12 year old was absolutely up and beyond angelic. She kept her composure with five shots in her, bodies wounded or dead around her, and wanting to put the fire out. The dispatcher was amazing too, he kept the girl focus and assure help was on the way. Heartbreaking tale, the parents must be proud to have such a daugther.

That little girls voice just broke my heart, omg I am a 33 year old guy that has been to prison and had a fairly rough life, but that sweet little girl was such a badass!! I just felt so sad when I heard her voice, but she was amazing. What a tough little girl, wow!!
