The beauty of Malaysia is that it's a melting pot of different cultures and this was very visible to me in Ipoh so I decided to visit a mosque, a buddhist temple and a hindu temple.

To dunk your toast in coffee is ok for us Malaysians. The jam is actually kaya jam which is made from eggs and coconut milk cooked over long periods on low heat until it reaches thick jam like consistency. We usually put some soy sauce and pepper on the half boiled eggs and stir before you dip your toasts in it.

The best food I had was in Ipoh, when I was there in September. Near where you ate at Sin Yoon Long, there is a place called Nasi Kandar Pekan Lama. Best meal I had in Malaysia and really cool owner who explains how you what they have and serves a massive portion for around 8 ringgit. I do miss Ipoh, wish I spent more than three days there.

I just recently stumbled upon your channel and enjoy watching your videos, especially the ones about Malaysia. I appreciate your effort in speaking the local language of Malay. However, I find that a lot of foreigners tend to mispronounce the "a" vowel in the Malay language. As a general rule of thumb, if the "a" is anywhere but at the end of a word, it is pronounced "ah" like the "a" in "car", or "father". If the "a" is at the end of a word, then it is pronounced "er" like the "a" in "ago", or "career". Examples: saya(sah-yer, not sah-yah), apa(ah-per, not ah-pah), mana(mah-ner, not mah-nah). Also, the "c" is pronounced like the "ch" in the words "check/charge/change". So, roti canai is pronounced as roti "ch"anai, not roti "k"anai. Welcome to Malaysia!

I was born & raised in Ipoh. Went to Ipoh last week and it seems like there are a lot more high rises than it used to be. However high rises are more sporadically located not concentrated in a few places like KL. Some people don't like new developments coming to Ipoh because they said Ipoh no longer feels the same. I love it though. I left Ipoh because its such a boring city in my opinion 🤭. So when I see more developments going on I am happy. Might even consider relocating one day

What is white coffee in Malaysia? Traditionally, Malaysian style 'black' coffee roast (Kopi-O) is produced by roasting the beans with sugar, margarine and wheat. 'White' coffee, on the other hand, is produced with only margarine and without any sugar, resulting in a less dark roast. Ipoh White Coffee is also widely available in an instant version. It has nothing to do with the milk... 😅😅 so you can have the white coffee with or without milk... Western type coffee is just roasted without additive....

If you want to know more about Moslem and mosques, you can go to big mosques eg Masjid Shah Alam, Masjid Putrajaya, Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan or Masjid Negara. They have train tourist guide.

At once, Ipoh (Kinta Valley) was a mining town..a lot of tin mines during it heyday.. a lot of tunnel & loose materials underneath... so, there was a restriction / rules to limit the buildings high.. but today, seem like no more such restriction (perhaps due to new technologies)

People's Park was beautiful in its Prime but it is a sore sight now. The restaurant is not in operation and no one would bring their children to play here. Ipoh was at its best in the 50s when we were under the Brittish rule, because it was perfectly planned. The Brittish would bring flowering tropical trees and plants from all over the world and plant them every part of the town and residential areas.

Melting pot alright, but the funny thing is when a Malay family migrate to China or India the second generation totally forgotten the Malay language. The Malay race is really the made up of all the 5 major races of this planet, but interacial marriage came to a halt, when Islam were introduced in the 15th century. But still we make foreigners feel at home.
